  1. Hi Gerard, that's a great photo. Do you have any more of your dad in service. It's great to look back at those days and see family members doing what a lot of youngsters have come to take for granted these days. If it wasn't for the bravery of the men and women back then we would not have the freedom we have today.

    All the best Steve.

  2. Banana Radios are a Post-War American radio, which is why you are getting Nam era dates. The WW2 radio was the SCR532 (also known as BC611), which was a rectangular shape.

Ah, thanks for the info. I googled WW2 US Army Radios and that's what came up. I know the set you mean, just a long rectangular box with a circular ear piece and an angled circular mouthpiece. Am I correct with that. Are there many out there that you know of or seen any for sale in the UK.

    Cheers Steve.

  3. Hi all, I'm looking for a WW2 Banana Radio. It will be for display only so no need for it to be in working order. Have seen some on the old fleebay but most are from the Nam era. Hopefully someone can help out.

    Cheers Steve.

  4. Hi all, I live in Essex, my name is Mark and I am 52. I have no military back ground, however a lot of staff I have had the pleasure to work with, have been and what a great group they have been.

I have been the proud owner of a Scammell Explorer for 9 years. Over the years we have been to the local shows towing a caravan, road runs and a little bit of off roading.

Sadly the Scammell has taken a back seat in our rally scene, however, things are to change, as I am giving the old boy a good clean and repaint to take him out next year to the local rallies for a change.

I am as happy in the workshop restoring things as driving them, and in the very near future I hope to start a thread on the restoration as it progresses, and although I am a month into the restoration, I am sure I have a few photo's of the progress, just got to work out how the photo's are put on here.

Oh, and what job did I have, the clues in my call sign.

    The Governor.

Hi Mark and welcome to the box of mad frogs. You should enjoy all of what goes on here as we are all mad for the hobby, well I am.:nut:

    All the best Steve.

  5. ......just finished stripping down and re-assembling VSL424 - a hard grind over winter in a freezing cold shed. These are the joys of owning these great vehicles. I would love to get in touch with previous owner(s) though, to get some background on her. Please, can anybody help

    regards to everyone......Gerard Bauer

Hi Gerard, don't know if you remember me but you said I could have your door kit off the dodge. It's looking great, are you still waiting to sell the door kit and if so how much do you want for them.

    All the best Steve.

  6. How much are you asking? Is it internally fitted for Bren or Browning? Do you have the pintle mount? Do you have the lid for the side bin?

    Cheers,

    Terry

Hi Terry, yes I have the centre bin lid just not had time to put it on. I have the bren mount and a bren for her. Looking for about the £12000 mark or near offer.

    Cheers Steve.

  7. Hi Steve, I need a front nearside bin if you have an old one leftover. Good luck with the Ferret I am sure it will sell,

Hi Steve, good to hear from you again been a long time. Hope you and the family are well. I sold all my spare bins a while ago. I'll ask a couple of mates who live down south if they can help. When are you next venturing out to a venue, be good to see you for a catch up. Mark and I are off to Bressingham this weekend and then Huey's at Bradenham for the bank holiday Monday.

all the best mate, keep safe

    Steve.

  8. Looking to raise some funds so thinking of selling my ferret. Starts and drives well, the tank is out as it has been cleaned so running out of a jerry can at the mo. PM me if interested before I change my mind.
Looking in the region of £12000
  9.

My dilemma is when I sit in the drivers seat looking down at the change over switch, the actual thumb knob that moves from left to right, does it mean when it is pointing to the left that this means it's operating the reserve tank and when moved to the right, the main tank. Once this is known, then I can use one of these stickers.

  10. Hi all, after 3 years of sitting in the garage I have decided to get my old landy up and running. Cleaned the plugs and points and a new battery, turned the key and away she went but coughing and spluttering. This is I believe, due to the old fuel which is in the tank, 3yrs old. Have drained out and replaced with new but my question is, I'm not sure which way the change over switch on the tank should be facing to operate the tank under the drivers seat. Has duel tanks and need to know which side is which. Any thoughts would be of help.

    Cheers Steve.

  11. Shouldn't be a problem. I just googled "military belt RTR" and several sites popped up offering them for around the £20 mark.

First thing I done was to google the RTR belt and contacted everyone of them with no joy. The ones that have them on their web page for sale are all out of stock and they have not updated the page. I have only found 1 belt for sale but it is a small, 30" to 32". no good as I'm a 34" waist, and no I am not going to try and slim down to get it to fit. lol.

  12. Hi all, in need of a RTR Stable belt in a med. or large to fit a 34" waist. Have tried all the usual sites and companies with no joy, they seem to be like rocking horse s** t lol. Hopefully someone will help me in my quest for this elusive belt.

    Cheers Steve.

  13. Get yourself a Jolley Engineering Electronic Ignition kit for a B60 and throw the points in the bin.

    Cheers,

    Terry

Being an ex mechanic I have found it a joy to work on my ferret going back to the basic plugs and points. I have always thought that with everything set as it should be the old system works fine and has given me great satisfaction when she fires up. She purrs merrily and doesn't miss a beat.

  14. hi,i am Darren,i live in chipping sodbury near Bristol...I must admit I don't actually own a military vehicle at the moment:blush:,however I have a Cortina 1970 and a vw camper baywindow 1972,,,i do drive my father in laws 1962 Hotchkiss jeep to local shows I have done for years now,,,,i am at the moment selling my Cortina to fund(part) the purchase of a dodge weapons carrier,i have always liked them and if my calculations are right then the wc should fit in my garage,it will be very snug:Dthere are a couple of weapons carriers on milweb at the moment, but the Cortina has to go to make room in the garage,so if anyone knows of anyone who likes mk2 Cortina with a v6 slotted under the hood:-).........I should be able to pick up a wc51 without the winch for about 7k to 8k shouldn't I???....is there anything I should look out for?i have owned a lot of American vehicles in the past, chevys, pontiacs, ford mustangs,,,,,i joined a while ago and I have just got round to introducing myself, sorry about that,,,,thanks for reading this, darren

Hi and welcome. You have 2 good looking vehicles there. You will enjoy a Dodge WC, I love mine and fell in with a bit of luck as got mine just after it had been restored. Only cost me £8500. with a list as long as your arm with things done, i.e. engine rebuild, gearbox, brakes, fuel tank, steering etc, etc. Ignore the side mirrors as these have been replaced with the proper ones.

  15. Hello all

Im a new member & my main interest is Land Rovers, I have one of the last of the line 2016 County XS HT's & am currently waiting to acquire a 90 Wolf (it's being fettled as I type).

I've had Land Rovers since 1975 several being ex-wd, Air Portables & 2.5 NA 90...slow, slow and very slow & in the case of the 2.5 NA, even slower!

Im located in rural Oxfordshire and have a passion for green laning & buggering off in our camper van.

    So that's me...

Hi there and welcome to the forum. We will soon have you looking for some armour.:cool2:

    All the best Steve.

  16. You are certainly doing a cracking job on the clean up. It is something that everyone with a Ferret should do early n in ownership.

Look forward to seeing how the whole project progresses.

    Robin

It is sure is a grand job but I like mine the way it is, meaning it is just as the last squaddie got out of her. All I'm doing is giving her a lick of paint on the outside. Inside is as it was from service. Gives me a sense of her history sitting in the drivers seat and feeling like I have just got in after the last lad got out, you can't beat that feeling. Each to their own but having a FV in showroom condition is not my cup of tea.

  17. Hi all, does anyone know if new member 'WOMBLE' (Gareth) is still out there. Have tried to PM him but no joy. Just wondered if someone on here knows him or his whereabouts.

    Cheers Steve.
