AlienFTM,
Thats what i thought, we actually had a EX 15/19H Scorpion which had become a Sabre in my troop, 04 FD 27.

CHRIS,
What Sqn was your Sabre with as the number rings a bell, I still have a few contacts with the QOY. I'll trawl through my photos if it's an ex D Sqn.

Sabre,
Nothing in the world like them, I was the Commander of the first one the QOY got, we had old Scimitars which were really knackered, they Sabre had just completed its rebuild with new engine and drive and all the new stowage it was great, if i had the money i'd love one.

Dave,
I was right re the history of your Sultan, the Tac Sign on the front right corner,
broken square with C/S 0C signifies it was the second command veh of "B" Sqn.
A= TRIANGLE, B= SQUARE, C = CIRCLE, D= LAZY D. Thats where the name Belfast came from as that is where B Sqn is based.

I can remember doing my H licence at Tidworth, mate in the driving seat of Scorpion, me in gnrs seat S/Sgt Cooper comding. Left Tidworth for Salisbury, turned left onto main road and accelerated, all of a sudden big bang, and veh slewed to right across the road. What had happened was the rhs sprocket had failed, travelled along run of track. entered windscreen of Merc travelling a bit close behind embedding itself into the backrest of the rhs seat, the lucky thing is that it was a LHD car. The driver ex squaddie couldn't see the funny side.

yes it is a CVR(T), it is the Sultan which is an Armoured Command Vehicle and not an Armoured Personnel Carrier which is the Spartan.

HI IAN,
I'VE BEEN ROUND LR IN THE MILITARY FOR 30 YEARS AND HAVE HAD TO PUT UP WITH RUN ON ALL THIS TIME ON 2 1/4 na engines, we just got told by our REME lads when you switch off leave in gear, hand brake on and jump the clutch to stall the engine.

Re the Centaur,
They are/were 110 LR fronts and CVRT tracks and suspension, they were to have a MG mount and even trialled with a 30mm Rarden mounted. They weren't reliable/tough enough and they literally were shook to bits over rough country.

!5/19H were trained for Overlord on DD shermans as invasion troops but were never used, they were re-roled onto Cromwell and took over from The Norhamptonshire Yeomanry as 11th Armd Div Armoured Recce Regt after they were practically wiped out in the breakout. They didn't do much recce though as they were used mainly to support the Infanry brigade in 11th Armd Div.

Re the holster, the cleaning rod goes into the sleeve on the inside, the compartment in question is for a spare magazine.
Barry.

TYPICAL HOLLYWOOD THOUGH, THEY GAVE 15/19H SHERMANS AND CROMWELLS, THOUGH AS 11 ARMOURED DIV'S ARMOURED RECCE REGT THE TANKS WERE CROMWELL AND CHALLENGER (UPRATED CROMWELL WITH 17 POUNDERS).

For those that have/have not seen Band of Brothers, after the failure of Market Garden, and the 101st Airborne were on The Island in Holland.
During this time they were supported by Tanks from the 15/19 H for which their CO Lt Col Taylor was awarded the DSO.
