  1. Thanks chaps, I shall give deepcut a ring tomorrow and check to see if I send a cheque for £25 with my application... hopefully they will have some info on the old girl!!
  2. Hi, I am in the process of getting my k9 Mvt inspected and then registered for the road and just wandered if there is a way of finding out some of its history to help me with the process... I have a chassis number and Vehicle number but that is all, no supporting documents of any kind. Does anywhere have the records for austin k9's? cheers in advance for any help. Martin
  3. Cheers for that! i tried all manner of ways of changing the image so it was of uploadable size!
  4. I think from the look of it the one in the link is a bedford ql....
  5. Hi, I found these beauties hiding in a hedgerow not far from me! Bedford mk/tk? Not sure what this one is..but it looks old and rare!! sorry for link but image size is too large for upload.. https://www.dropbox.com/s/3j8yxh3kgcj0c1x/2013-07-30%2017.29.11.jpg Engine of unknown, Large engine made by AEC, Its a chopped up timber crane...maybe military based originally?? take it easy Martin
  6. hi there, from memory... The gears are a standard 1-2-3-4 H pattern on the long gearstick, then the Shorter stick is Forward for 4wd, centre for neutral, rear for 2wd. I don't think there is high and low? i have only driven mine around my yard so not used to it all yet! good luck with finding all your bits, maybe try posting a wanted advert up on the k9 register website.. martin
  7. Hi Heres a bit of an update on the k9, The cylinder head is back on finally after a nightmare job..it was skimmed and all the valve seats recut, put it all back together and then had this oil leak... Fi
  8. hi, are the plastic spreaders that sit behind the seals in a lockheed 1 1/4 brake slave cylinder still available to buy anywhere??? I'm having real trouble finding any....some of mine are broken up. cheers for any help. martin
  9. Hi If you ever need to use a workshop for welding etc drop me a message, im only in bishops castle and have just set up restoring/modifying classic cars! Martin
  10. Hi Classic American restorations near bishops castle do blasting..i think they charge per bag of sand at about £25 a bag, The owner brian is a bit of a funny chap, but all the workers are top lads ! Martin
  11. If its the stuff im thinking of its like a slow acting thinners, you can use it on fresh primer etc and it won't melt it, but its enough to eradicate any silicone or grease etc on the area to be painted. jizer may do the job but for the effort it takes to redo paint after a reaction i would pay the extra myself.. martin
  12. Do you have a sample from the old one's? if so i would send a small piece to a company called phoenix trim. or cut some square and do a side on print of the profile on a piece of paper with measurements next to it then scan it and email it through to them.(hope that makes sense!!) They will then match it. Very usefull chaps and have many many different profiles. martin
  13. Hi For the rear box i have been donated a box bodied trailer, not sure what it was originally? The wheel arch's are even in exactly the right place! its very yellow though!! its similar style to the radio box but a little taller...ideal really because im a lanky bugger!!
  14. That looks fantastic, a credit to all your hard work! can only dream of ours looking that smart!!
  15. Hi If someone has a k9 with a radio box on it would you be willing to measure the height, length, and width of the box for me?? also the gap between the cab and box.. The reason i ask is because I do not have my box but have been offered a very similar looking one for free, would be nice if it was similar dimensions! thank you in advance Martin
  16. Hi I thought i would post up some pictures of my austin k9 restoration.. This is how it looked when i got it!! One side of the cab has allready been welded up! The turret has been bodged with a plate glued over it!! Random picture of the built in tyre pump!! T i dont want to bore you with endless picture of welding, so heres a couple of the passenger door repairs. This is how she sits at the moment.. i currently have the cylinder head off being skimmed, as it is pressurising the water system, I put the front panels on loosely as i have never seen it complete! bit of a moral boost!
  17. Hi it does indeed look like the pictures of fj's. i wander if its worth saving?? if it looks bad in the picture's, it looks worse close up!!!!! I was a bit short on time when i took the pictures so didn't have a chance to get a good look around it. I also spotted a Matador and a militant!! all in different places and in need of rescuing, all within 3 miles of my house!! quite a succesfull drive round the hills if you ask me!! Many thanks Martin
  18. Hi i just found this in a hedgerow... it is ex military, well it has the remnants of a turret in the roof!! cheers martin
  19. Many thanks for that... You can just see the box of tricks on the right, it sits on the rear wall of the cab between the seats. It seems like a strange system as the generator would only be turning if the truck was driving, as it is driven by the prop??? unless the transferbox has a neutral position? i shall try to get some better pictures this afternoon...
  20. Hi my k9 has a LARGE generator fitted running off the transfer box via a little gearbox.. The wiring goes into this box of tricks in the cab... What does this clever box do?? there is then 2 sheilded wires coming out of the back of the cab from the box on the left, these have been cut and now go to nothing? Can anyone explain a bit more about this system...my hope is that i can use this to charge a bank of 12v leisure batteries as i am hoping to convert my k9 to use as a camper. would this be possible??
  21. http://www.historic-military-vehicle-brake-carburettor-fuelpump-spares-kit.com/austin_Ks.htm These guys have fuel pump rebuild kits listed on there web site..:-)
  22. hi, cheers for the replies, sorry yes they are spring rims...I did ask the local hgv tyre firm but they refused!! something about he'd rather get shot at.... I guessed the danger was in the reseating of the ring, as the tyres are quite wide it held itself together allowing me to inflate it from 30ft away...felt a bit safer! I'm very much a have a go kinda guy...I'll report back when I have done some more!! if I'm still here.
  23. hi, I'm in the process of fitting some tyres to my k9, I did one today but what a ball ache!!! does any1 have any tips/ hints to make life easier? is there anything i should pay particular attention to?? my method was.... let air out, break bead of tyre/rim with 2" pieces of angle iron and a sledge hammer, working my way round. knock outer ring of split rim downwards, prise out seating ring and outer rim, flip wheel and support centre off the ground, leaving tyre free to drop..thrash some more with angle iron and hammer till tyres plops off... I then de rusted rim and bits and put a coat of paint on them, the trickiest bit was breaking the bead..that took at least an hour to do both sides! reassembly was relatively straight forward, but after hearing stories of widow maker wheels I just wander if i was at any real danger?
  24. hi bill, I am also on the hunt for a core plug for my k9! If you manage to get hold of some would you be willing to put one in the post for me? Obviously I would pay you!! I am after one for the top gallery..the one that when it pops out soaks your left foot/leg in boiling hot water! hope you can help Martin
  25. Daft question but here goes.. Would 12.00 20" bargrip tyres fit on austin k9 wheels?? usually 9.00". only ask as mine are knackered and i have been offered some cheap 12.00's.... cheers martin
