  1. We need a set of replacement headlights for our Mk1 Militant. Can any one put me on the right track for a supplier please Bob
  2. Thanks Wally I didn't know its Military reg No. I knew it was an ex RAF Matador because of the grey paint on parts that were hidden. Do you know what body type it had?
  3. Thank you all for taking the time to reply. Both sets of belts have been ordered. Bob
  4. Having had to get close up and personal with the Militant engine I think it is Eau-de-Nil as it has a greenish blue tint ( the colour I remember all the vehicle engines were when I was an apprentice at the F.V.R.D.E in the 1970's). The Matador is one of the 1950 build series (chassis No 085310604) the engine was silver/aluminium when I got it as it was out of one of the ex Aldershot & District Matador recovery trucks. Perhaps I should add that both the Militant and Matador have been converted to timber tractors (see the Militant gallery for a picture of the Mili)
  5. Original colour for a Mk1 Militant. Would a late model Matador (1953) be the same colour?
  6. Can anybody tell me what is the correct colour for an AEC Militant engine and where I can get the paint from? Thanks Bob
  7. Thanks for the quick replies guys, I love this site, so much information and help.
  8. Hi All. Does anyone know where I can get Fan and Compressor belts for my Mk1 Militant from. Thanks Bob
  9. Has anybody got or knows where I can get a manual for a Mk 1 Militant artillery tractor Thanks Bob
  10. Rob, the other Matador in the picture is in fact a Douglas, that and the Field Marshal belong to the guy we bought the Militant from. He had loads of interesting old stuff in his place. I have just found the chassis number and its 0860209, can you give me any idea of it's age? I have looked at your timber wagon restoration and found loads of good tips, I've just started on the tanker blog Bob
  11. Here are some more photos and about as much of its history as I can find at the moment. Originally built for a firm called Tunnicliffes buy a man called Arthur Redman, using part of a Cat D4 dozer blade for the rear end. It was sold by them at a sale in1992 and worked in Sussex. It then went to a firm called Beavens from Craven Arms in Shropshire. We bought it from Ben Freer of Kettering, who bought it from David Crouch. There were originally two built, the other one was sold to a chap from Masham in North Yorkshire and was cut up for scrap a few years ago. Ok I've shown you ours, now you show me yours
  12. I've just seen the youtube movie of John Coombers Cummins engined Explorer:D:D:D How difficult is it to put a Cummins engine in an Explorer and what type is best? Regards Bob
  13. Hi All. This is my first posting on this thread and hopefully will lead to me fullfilling a very longstanding ambition of owning an Explorer. I am currently following up a lead on one localy to me but it may turn out to be another let down. I have one outstanding question that I have not been able to resolve, so I am hoping that this will be the place to get it answered. Can the Meadows petrol engine be converted to run on LPG? Regards Bob
  14. Hi my name is Bob. I am a special needs Technology teacher. I have a half share in a Matador timber tractor and I also own a Fordson Major and Ferguson TED20 tractors. My secret passion is my Buell XB9S lightning and longing to own an Explorer
