Some few years ago I had to go out to inspect a Q4 Tipper in East Sussex for the MVT to verify chassis numbers.

This Moderator is completely in the dark over this as yourselves are. It is a right pain, so will look in to using AdBlock as none of the adverts are of any interest to me and an intrusion.

Just had a large advert for Air China pop up and of no use at all as it was in Chinese! Also an Ebay advert came up after that.  Annoying.....

I think this is to do with Fog not smoke, and was to light up a Follow Me sign to escort aircraft on landing in fog conditions. See the centre aperture as the wording at the to say Screen.

Going by the label, the stock number appears to be indicating that it is to do with the air force, ie  an RAF vehicle.

Have you thought about using Chev (or Ford) Blitz axles and transfer case as there are still plenty of those old trucks lying around in Australia. The 15cwt C15A would be about right size I guess.

I recall that United Service Garage in Portsmouth did 4x4 conversions on Bedfords. Just found this article about them;

I see the Bedford in the photo on this thread has a West Sussex registration, so a possibility it was a USG conversion as Portsmouth is close by.

Bob,, I seem to recall that the test track at Chertsey was used by film crews sometimes to get road sequences, so this might be the case here as the FVRDE would have been involved with the FV421.

This can has an ERN for a Saxon armoured patrol which served most of its service in NI.

Having removed starters on Ferrets a good few times in Workshops, we had a 9/16" A/F combination spanner, cut it in half so we had a short flat ring spanner and a short open ended one. The short ring spanner had a hole drilled in the end with a piece of string attached, so if you dropped it, you could easily retrieve it. Still got one in my toolbox and have found it useful in other situations as well, seem to recall lower bell housing bolts in a Saracen being one....

The photos show it was serving at one time with C Sqn. Royal Yeomanry, ie Kent & County of London Yeomanry

I would say the Eqpt A/C, means Equipment Account. Cannot see it having anything to do with aircraft. A/C is a known abbreviation for 'account'.

The RB44 vehicles supplied to the army were delivered from 1990 onward. I recall that they were held out of service fro around 18 months soon after due to braking issues. Check out this website for details; http://www.dodge50.co.uk/rb44-story-1.html

Regarding these stamped numbers starting with 14CW, I would take a strong guess that they were rebuilt at 14 Command Workshop REME in Ashford, Kent. The fact that one number is '14GW" could have been a mistake, and the G stamp was used instead of C.

The plate is from a trailer made by Taskers of Andover and from the contract number it would be military and dated during WW2

I recall seeing a turbocharged K60 engine on the Rolls Royce stand at a British Army Equipment Exhibition at Rushmoor in possibly the late 80;s. I did pick up a brochure showing the engine.

The Bedford is shown in Bart Vanderveen's directory for 1945 onward vehicles. No build date shown though.
