  1. I now have a V8 Discovery 2 on LPG. At 69.9 p a litre .Practically the maitince is no diffrent to a straight petrol. Performance is such that the only way I know I'm on gas is by the dash light.  Fuel Consumption , I haven't really been able to work it out. Problems, NGK LPG plugs , at £18 each! Fortuntley will run on the normal ones.  Finding some where to fuel is the pain. The reason I bought mine is it was cheap and I have a local LPG station. There seems to be no difinitive info on where you can get Autogas in UK. Problem with Disiel is that the LPG runs 30% of the power all the time. Loose LPG loose power, that's what the experts tell me.

  2. Sounds like I'm lucky. My MOT place is honest. If there is a fail they tell me, and its genuine. Plus most importantly , they don't let something sllde for a mate. The idea is that the vehicle is safe , at the time of examination. Though I did give them some grief with my LPG Discovery, it was a pain working out how the emissions were done on that.

  3. That central accelerator pedal! I drove a Mk1 Quad and a mate'sMercury with that set up.  The underpants bill went up alarmingly.

What a truck! Such lovely patina.

Posh word for rust. 😁 Though the temptaions do you conserve it in running condition, doing the least possible or restore it and loose her life?

One minor correction Tony. Aquila was in Bromley, not Bexley.

    Steve

I used to work there, I should have remembered. It's the age you know. Originally the site, right by a major rail junction, was going to be an evacuation hospital for Blitz victims.

  6. The Fort and Chertsey had very close links. It was not unusual for vehicles  being on one set of books, but ending up at the other most of the time. The Fort did have until recently a well equipped fire service. Officially in the 1950' 60 and up to DERA Fort Halstead was The Royal Armorments Research and Development Establishment. The Royal Charter proudly displaye din the entrance to A4 building.  There was also two offshoots of the Fort.  One was Aquila at Bexley , the other Shoreham (Village) which was a magazine. Aquil ais now a housing estate, despite the fact that the original paperwork said if disposed of it would return to a golf course. Shoreham is now a builders yard I belive.
