Hi!
I'm Andrew Wents from Kazakhstan.
My job - graphics production, my hobby - Military history.
Currently, I'm looking for 1960's RM commando - TOEs, operations, weapons, tracked and wheeled vechicles etc. Many many questions
Sorry, my English is bad, worse only French
Hi Andrew,
welcome to the forum! I spent two years working in Atyrau, on Kazakhstan's Caspian coast in the oil business. Which region are you based in?

It may be worth mentioning, my '41 5sw has always had a 3.50x19 on the rear since I bought it (14 years ago)

My interpretation of 'land which the public have access to' is areas such as show sites, ie, private land which the public is invited onto, either paying or for free. A farmer's field, for instance, a private piece of land where the public are not invited onto and which is practically impossible to prevent unauthorised access, would not come under the auspices of the RTA.
My understanding, I'm no lawyer.

My unrestored '41 CCKW has an enigine that I think has never been repainted. It is definetly not OD, I would say it's a wet looking BRG shade. Just an observation, surely somebody will come with a correct colour code.
Arthur
Arthur,
I'm no GMC expert, but I think the colour you're referring to is bottle green, a standard GMC colour.
25 pounder,
as presumably your truck is '43 onwards, it may be that OD is correct, some people say bottle green early war, OD late war. But to confuse matters further, mid grey has also been discussed!
By all accounts, my '42 Chevy should be OD, but Ive found no definitive evidence of this yet. Chevy did quite a few things differently to their parent company GMC!

Hello David,
just mentioned your suggestion to Mrs G506, she hadnt really considered researching his military history in detail, but I think seeing the photo she hadnt seen before has sparked a whole new interest in his career. So I think a visit to Southwick is on the cards
Thanks

Ah, 'She Who Likes To Be Obeyed' has just corrected me, her dad rose to Staff Sergeant, not Sergeant.......
That told me!
But thanks anyhow!
-
Ivor,
thanks for posting the link to that site, I didnt know it existed. It is of particular interest to my girlfriend, who's dad was an instructor sergeant in the RMP, and tragically passed away. We found a photo of him with his trainees that she had not seen before, it made her afternoon, so thanks for that :-)

As my target of finishing Oddball's restoration in time for Normandy 09 is going to be missed, this could be a new target to aim at, count me in !
(But I had better check with 'She Who Likes To Be Obeyed' first though to see if I'm allowed out to play)

RCubed,
have you been sniffing petrol again?
Ho ho ho

Happy Birthday Rosie! See you Friday

Welcome on board chaos,
good to see another 'Ampshire hog here! We're getting outnumbered by the Dorset folk.......

Nag nag nag..............
Ok Baz, some pics will be up soon. Just a Dodge and a Chevy to finish welding up!

Rl, all sounds like a real possibility doesnt it? (Can we see some bike pictures?)
Tim, I dont want to 'gate crash your party', what do you think? Could there be some mileage in an event of this nature?
-
The following year we are tentively planning a WW1 truck event in Devon where maybe we can get eight together, although even that number seems to be a massive task. I will keep you updated. Hopefully that year we will be taking three of our own and possibly get five others together. We will see.
Tim (too)
Sounds fantastic Tim, count me in (but not as an owner, well, not yet anyway). Tank owners from all over Europe go to Mons, who knows what interest this could turn up!
Rlangham, what about a combined re-enactor and static vehicle event?

As for fire extinguishers, that would explain why it is on the kick panel. I have seen them also mounted to the left of the passenger footwell, in front of the transmission tunnel, I wonder if this was a later positioning.
My steering wheel will probably end up OD, but having seen yours I think black looks better!
-
Being new to the subject of WW1 vehicles, I wonder is there such a thing as a show/event/gathering of these old girls, their owners, and like minded enthusiasts?
I realise transportation, etc, makes any such event logistically challenging, but any thoughts?

Hi John,
I've been following the thread on the Dodge forum with interest. My steering wheel is much the same as yours, which I believe is referred to as hard rubber, and three spoke. The thread says that generally these were painted OD, interestingly yours is black, but correct as its NOS. I was assuming that I would have to spray mine OD, am I correct?
Its a nice wheel, dont think Ive ever seen an NOS unit before!
Also, Ive just noticed your fire extinguisher position, I think mine is meant to be on the firewall over the footwell.
Cheers

Looking good there Baz, I must get the 5SW finished!
Researching My Triumph TRW
in Motorcycles
Posted
Hi Gumby,
Welcome to the friendly forum!
I believe the records that were held at the Museum of Army Transport (Beverley, in Yorkshire) are now held at Deepcut Barracks in Surrey, you should be able to find them if you do a google search. For a small fee they will search their records and send you a photocopy of any records they have on your bike. My TRW (if memory serves) was 05EN00, which I understand means it was the 500th EN registration, and was dated around 1965, so Im guessing yours as the 43rd EN registration must be around 1964, which probably means yours is a MK3 and has twin coil ignition.
Nice that it still has it's original engine, Triumphs usually left the factory with matching engine and frame numbers.
