  1. Rob

Just found a couple of better pictures in my Scorpion user manual (for the 76mm L23) and I cant be sure but the block looks quite different. The guide ribs and recesses in particular look different. Of course, Im going from drawings rather than an actual block so cant be sure. Could it be Saladin - was the gun the same?

  2. Excellent cheers for that..

I havent had a chance to dig into the history yet although was pretty sure it was RAF at some point. It has a list of call signs inside it as well indicating use with an Armoured Engineer regiment as its final posting (CETs, AVLBs, CRARRVs etc)...

  3. I live in East Peckham now, 5 minutes from the Hop Farm.

I walk the dog in the Hop Farm and to my surprise there are 3 plots marked out already.

Personally, I think it would be fair to everyone if the first thing the marshals do when the gates officially open is to remove all the plots that have somehow sprang up even before people are allowed in.

I know there are arguments for and against marking plots out but to be marking areas even before we are allowed in is a bit below the belt.

Let's face it - I could have been marking a plot out in December but I won't be doing anything until I'm officially allowed in. When I arrive Saturday, I shall find an area and set up camp there and then.

I dont think marked out plots would be too much of a problem for Shrek to deal with would they... ;)

  4. There is a very commonly used striker pic which looks to be in Gulf, although not clear if GW1 or GW2. It is on wikipedia and comes up very regularly when you google cvrt striker. It shows 07FF88 and a couple of other vehicles whose numbers cannot be made out.

This is particularly annoying to me as I have 07FF87...!

Will be very interested to see what info this thread comes up with though..

  5. For CVRT roadwheels are the things that cause me the most agonising. I started stockpiling these then someone told me they go off if stored for too long and will disintegrate when used, so I started selling them, then started worrying and thinking I should collect them again..! There seem to be plenty around at the moment, and most of my vehicles have new or very good ones on now so maybe I just worry too much..!

  6. Agree with Chris you have to get stuff when you can once its gone its gone. I dont know that people are stockpiling to make a profit - sure that will be some of it but if you dont know where the next one is coming from you will buy an extra one and put it away just in case. Unless there is something I desperately need I have given up on CES outside of Beltring it just seems a lot cheaper there..!

  7. Are there any reports of the Strikers using their Swingfires successfully during the Gulf War? If so where can I find them?

I think in Bullet Magnet (Mick Flynn) he talks about at least one Iraqi tank being destroyed by a Striker using Swingfire, although note this was GW2. Its a cracking read, primarily because it features CVRTs in a starring role..

  8. They already had a massive hike this year - according to FJ it's because of the high numbers of both uninsured drivers who have had accidents (seems to me if they can't be a**ed to get insured they won't give a damn about other road users either..) and, to a lesser extent, the amount of ambulance chaser claims. If they go up much further the insurance companies will be pricing themselves out of business....

Back on topic. - I'm neither an MOT tester or mechanic so cannot comment on vehicles of any sort being unroadworthy other than to echo the observation that the MOT is only valid at that point in time, pull out of the station and a bulb blows - and instant failure to comply.....

All I can say is that if any of my MV's were out and someone saw a problem I had failed to spot I would be extremely grateful if it was pointed out so I could remedy it ASAP.

Im sure i heard something the other week that said that the increasing prevalence of whiplash claims was a major cause of insurance rises. Also repair costs must have something to do with it - a colleague recently had her car repaired following flood damage and it took 6 weeks - their attitude was dont worry about it you have a hire car and the insurance will pay and will also pay our storage fees...

  9. I have to put the reg back on my Spartan and was going to do a variation on this - painting the number plate in white, then put the letters on, then paint again in black then take the letters off, leaving a nice neat painted number...will have to see how it goes..

  10. Welcome John

I went on the Sunday and experienced some of the quagmire! Shame about the weather but overall It was a great effort for its first year and I hope it happens again next year..

Presume you have put a nato hitch on your 90 then which surely qualifies it as an mv..!

    Cheers
