  1. I brought the subject up because a friend said he saw a lovely WD panel tank OHV Triumph twin at W&P. ( I missed it). I'd like to know what info or provenance the owner has!! Ron

  2. I thought I'd share this for those haven't seen them. Impressed Tiger 100's which were mostly supplied to the Home Guard I think. Although I have seen a picture of at least one overseas. (Middle East). These Home Guard boys must have thought all their birthdays had come at once!

  3. Stef is correct, except that's it's an HF 1235. Here is some additional info on WD hooters. Ron

PS. Working 6V Altettes are never easy to find. Especially a genuine WD version. Have a look at 'Taff the horn' (Lynn Isaacs) Interesting site.http://taffthehorns.com/ He sometimes has them. He also sells on Ebay. but they are usually in excess of £100.

  4. In the past I have driven my Morris for distances of up to 100 miles at a time. I never had a problem with the seat comfort. It was more the very hard suspension, the heavy steering, the heat from the engine on hot days and a max 38mph cruising speed ........Still love it though. Ron

  5. Could be Jack. I'm trying to win the lottery so's I can buy a small farm yard with a f*ck off big barn and spread everything out more.

It's my experience that guys with such premisses take them for granted. They'll have a barn that I'd give my eye teeth for and then put a rusty tractor and a lame cow in it.......Gizzit!

  6. Nah! She just thinks I'm looking after them for mates. She swears blind that they all look exactly the same.

You'll find out soon enough Jack. As any motorcyclist will confirm. It's absolutely impossible to have just one bike in the shed.

  7. Not showing off Jack. Just answered your question. My hobby is collecting and restoring back to as near factory correct as I can. I only keep about three on the road........Running out of room, time, money and willpower though. Ron

  8. Never have that problem with My Indian Garrison. But then it does have a dizzy! Of course you must then always have a good battery and charging system......you just can't win!!

I did have a quick try on a Powerplus in a field at one of our 'Indian Riders' rallies. But I got off quite quick as I could see it would all end in tears. Couldn't get me head round all the levers and left hand throttle.

    Ron the coward.

  9. If it was me Steve, I'd get the mag checked professionally.(which has already been suggested) The condenser is probably the problem. Removing the mag from a W/NG is not the easiest I know but definitely worth eliminating.

I have a good Mag guy in the New Forest. But it's only worth using him if you don't mind being without the bike for 6-8 weeks. Otherwise I'd recommend a guy in Shaftesbury. Ron

  10. These pictures were discovered amongst a soldiers belongings that were recently unearthed. The soldier may have ties with the LRDG and it is understood he was a member of Royal Sigs. We are just looking into the bike and truck to see if we can establish a timeline or maybe even a unit they belonged to..

    Thanks

It's definitely a Norton 16H with a Morris PU8. The Norton is one of those fitted with the strange pannier tool box's. Looks like North Africa. But I'm not good at identifying units. Ron

  11. Mrs Madden has assured me that we ARE going over for the 70th (yes dear....:undecided:)........you can't miss her (well, you can, at only 4'10")....but not her London gob........(yes dear.....:D)..........(I will be the quiet, humble 6'4" bloke on a 16H)......

That'll be good Steve. A nice little wrens outfit would fit the bill for Vee. You know the ones that have to be hitched up to expose the stocking tops when climbing on board.

Does she know about the camping malarkey? The excitements in tents!!

  12. Have been offered a very nice Matchless - but its in civvy colours :banghead:

Jack, send me the frame and engine numbers before you buy it. Some pictures would be good also.

  13. Yes the RAF did use quite a few India 741's. In fact lots were supplied to the allies under the lend lease scheme but they were mainly issued to the lower echelon units as they were not well liked by our blokes.

I have most makes in my collection and I seem to like different aspects and features of all of them.

I love the antique look of the 16H and I would say that it a slightly faster bike than an M20. The Triumphs are light and lively with lovely gear box's. The Matchless's again are very lively with quite nice box's but some of the design features leave me speechless. The Velo's are just quirky and hand built and very sporty once you have them set up correctly. The Ariel is a very good all round bike with every thing more or less as you'd want it. Royal Enfield's seem very under rated. I really like riding my CO especially for convoy work, however the gearbox is not my favourite.

For sheer durability and reliability you'd have to go a long way to beat an M20, however they would be better if fitted with a Triumph gear box and clutch.

I also personally prefer a gear driven magneto as opposed to a flaying chain.

Finally I never go for a ride on my Indian......I always go for a wobble!! Ron

  14. The plan this end is for me to buy a WWII British bike and if Ron lets me I would like to join you all in 2014.

One of the highlights of W&P was bumping into Stefano for the first time and learning an awful lot about British bikes :D

No problem Jack. We'll be pleased to have you, and it's more exhilarating than driving a Jimmy.........You will have to get your hair cut though. Ron

  15. Sorry Billy. All bikes attending the Guinness record event, Will have to be WW2 allied forces in military trim. You have 2 years to re-paint it. Just lean it against a wall and chuck a bucket of paint at it. I have been told that this is the way it was done???????
