  1. Very true :D

Cracking turnout though and not just from England we met one gent from Germany who had flown in for the weekend now thats commitment.

The only thing I wanted was a massive cooling fan powered by a Griffon to be pointing in our direction. Can't have everything

It was very busy on the Sunday. The cubed one did suggest I stand behind the Griffon when it was running to try and cool off!!! The chap who ran it was holding on for dear life!!!!!

Must get some more piccys up here.

  2. Well it's been a most magnificent weekend. Seen some amazing vehicles, excellent battles and met some lovely people. We've been treated like royalty thanks to Ken and his team. The weather has been epic, thanks for organising that!!!!

Well worth the trip up here and look forward to coming again next year, hopefully with our own outfit!!

Right lets get home, so need a bath. Have sweated from parts of my body I didn't even know existed!!!

  3. Well done Steve for remembering the date - I hadn't !

So many highlights looking back at those photo's one doesn't know where to start? Was it the Boeing Stearman buzzing the Hellcat racing up and down the peri-track at Parham, the sight of almost 80 WWII vehicles in line-astern convoy weaving their way through the Suffolk countryside, the Maurice Hammond buzz-job down the grass strip at Hardwick with brother in the back seat trying to keep hold of his lunch or the Friday night formation HMVF Drinking team in the tent, laughing and giggling to the early hours?

Well it was none of them of course - Because who could ever forget the slowest fast-food outlet in the whole of the United Kingdom who we had the misfortune to engage at the 95th BG base at Horham! Yes, those catering guys will be remembered and talked about by far more people and for far longer than any of the highlights I have mentioned earlier.

Its a shame to think that the P-51 Big Beautiful Doll shown on one of Steve's pictures is no-more (after the mid-air collision at Duxford a couple of years back) and I honestly think the chances of getting that many GMC's together again for a heavy haulage convoy is pretty unlikely with the cost of fuel.

I also think the reason that the event was so special for many on here was because it was the first time for many of us that we actually put a face to the screen name! For instance, it was the first time that I had ever met Rosie, Joris, RCubed, Snapper, Zoomer, NOS, Degsy and many others (even Jack perhaps), and up until that time we were all just online HMVF'ers and didn't realise that we actually all existed for real !

Cheers for posting the trip down memory lane and it begs the question, "Should we do it all again?"

Oh yes, the convoy-it was a fantastic sight seeing the snake of trucks trundling through the countryside. The drinking. OMG Maurice making us all stand there wide eyed and open mouthed as he flew inches from us. The drinking. Jeez, yes the 'fast' food van!!!! It honestly took hours!!!! The drinking. And yes, putting faces to names, making friendships that will last forever :)

Then there was the drinking, leaving the genny running till stupid o'clock if I remember rightly?!!!!

  4. It was six years ago today that dozens of MV's ( and Jack's pink cushion ) were assembling at Parham airfield for the beginnings of the "Operation Bolero 2007" event. How time flies. This has to rank pretty much at the top of any MV event I've attended since getting the Jeep back in 2005.

Looking at the weather outside, I was wondering what events I'd been at during late June over past years, and realised that today was the day that Bolero started in 2007. So here's a few photos from that great event.

Great heads up Steve and that was a fantastic weekend. I am not a massive drinker but think we were up until 3/4am - not sure if it was Joris or Snapper or me who fell in the ditch when we went for a pee........

Oh wow, thanks for the memories JtJ!!!!

Yup Jack, that was a heavy drinking night, even I was rather tipsy!!!! :-D

    • I have had a request from a friend on facebook, he is thinking of doing a little fundraising event for Armed forces day at his village shop. They will be doing a free cheese and wine tasting and has asked me if anyone would like to take their WW2 vehicle or turn up in authentic dress. He understands its short notice!
There may even be a chance to pitch up for the night. If you're interested then please pm me for a mobile contact number.
      Many thanks

  6. We did the Series of Red Ball Express convoy events in Wiltshire which ran from 1990 to 1995, I think the most CCKW's we managed to get together was 18, although the convoy's also had many Dodge's, DT's, Wards, etc etc and we totaled around 45 on the best Red Ball run. When Ed Abbott and I did Operation Bolero in 2007 here in Suffolk we had around 80 vehicles in the convoy and I think we had over 20 CCKW's.

I'm intrigued now - i'll have to go and look up the participants list and work it out exactly when i get a moment!

Ours was one of the 20 or so in 2007! I'm sure there's lots of pictures on here somewhere. Will look tonight when I return from work

  7. ah cheers rosie got a 6yr old son and a 3 month old girl not had a proper night sleep for 3 month now but she,s worth it !

Make the most of them at that age! Mine are 11 and 13 now!!!!! Teenage tantrums ate are much worse!!! Lol xxxxxx

  8. Well I have to say that it was a great show all round. I went as a trader and the 'staff' couldn't do enough for me or for any of the other traders and that's always a good sign.

As I got to the show - I was greated by Chrisg - coming out of the loos. Chris isn't an oil painting at the best of times but seeing him in his PJ's, unshaven and stumbling out of the gents really isn't a good sight.

    It got worse.

I went over to Chris's pitch to have a nice cup of coffee (fat chance) caught up with Tony and Pete - High Plains Drifters - then the shocking sight of seeing Rambo in a thong...........SERIOUSLY I am not sure what it is with those Post War guys

What really strikes you about this show is that is has such a nice ambience and a really nice laid back feel. Vehicles moved around with common sense and it showed. I tend to talk to everyone, traders, vehicles owners and reenactors and not one had a bad word to say about it. They all have that sort of 'we support this show' attitude.

Another thing that caught my attention was the fact that food van wasn't stupid prices and that makes all the difference to families that come in for a day out. I like cofffee and good coffee at a £1 cup was a winner for me :)

For me it was a great start to my show season and the first one I have been to in four years with the tents.

AND I didn't see Rosy drunk at all!! FACT.

Not only is this show a good show for the hobbiests amongst us but more importantly it is a great show to introduce the public to both our hobby and our history.

Great work all round by the team and see you next year.

    JB!

Thanks for that Jack. We do pride ourselves on being a chilled and relaxed show, with something for everyone.

Yup I saw ChrisG in his jimjams to!!!! I also saw Rambo in his jimjams to (although luckily not a thong!!)

I had enough wine to keep the whole sight happy, in fact as I was ambling along, when a young lad thrust a bottle at me. (Thanks go to Chef Ives!) I was we'll behaved tho :)

The show was one of our best ever and we're glad that you chose our show to get yourself back on the scene again xxxxxxxxxx
