Very Impressive! It is indeed a A3 152. it's in a 1963 35X

yep, been there, done that. I usually drop my fags in as well!!

Sump plugs are another favourite, they always work again after pulling them out though.

Here's something that I think will make a few of you snigger, I was working on a machine this morning, It was going great until I felt my phone slip after taking this very picture... No prizes for guessing where it landed, still, it won't go rusty! :red:

looks I've stirred up some interest! Thanks for all your posts! It's sad seeing such a piece of engineering waste away like this. I had to climb up inside it and have a sit in the driving seat, is guess that's one good thing about it ending up there, I would have never had even seen one, let alone get in one other wise! :cool2:

This monster has been at my local scrapyard for years, I was speaking to a worker there, he said that they had several a few years back. The chap said that they were taken apart piece by piece but that this was saved because ally scrap prices fell. He believes they weigh 22tons.

Anyway, I took a couple of pictures for you all, I believe it is a German amphibious temporary bridge but dare say I'm wrong? :-D

I was thinking about camo on one of mine - more swayed to doing one up as a MP vehicle though, get that Malta done up in OD, Vietnam style and we'll have a nice collection going between us

The gearbox cross member is double thickness, I cut the first layer off and made a new piece. underneath looked pretty good, until I started tapping it with a tack hammer to see if I could find any rust holes, Unfortunately, I found plenty!

with the underneath repaired, I painted it, and prepaired to weld in a new panel. This shows what I cut out.

This shows just some of the crap from inside the cross member, and outriggers!!

After cutting the piece off, I realised that this out rigger was far worse than I thought, so I cut most of it out...

This shows most of the work completed, there is still a bit to do, I have dressed the welds on the gearbox member. That is about as far as I have got, It will be finished hopefully tomorrow evening if I get the time.

Hi,

When I rebuilt my MUTT I removed the tray that sits in the battery box and made a wooden base to create a flat floor as the MUTT floor is curved there and the batteries sat wonky. I then used the largest pair of standard Halfords-type batteries that would fit under the cover. I fabricated clamps to pick up on the original clamping points so it could be returned to original config without any work.

Don't worry I will! I get trade discount in our local motor factors now, batteries are pretty reasonable, my 643's cost around £70 a go with 3years warranty. I'll see how I get on with 096's

One side done, its fairly discreet and very strong, just put a quick brush of hammerite on to keep it clean of rust until I have finished.

Thanks for the help! I might pop into Halfords before I buy one and have a look at the 096 and give it a quick measure.

I thought that when I brought it out of hibernation, It's a shame, I believe it should be in the hands of a avid collector or museum for others to enjoy and appreciate, hence the post. My father refuses to let any of it go, so it just sits in boxes in storage.

I thought about using neatsfoot oil or lanolin? I studied leather working as a part time course a few years ago and the guy there used to say 'use the nearest oil that was in the hide before the animal died' saying that a lot of 'leather treatments' actually deteriorate the leather faster, making it soft and flexible but ultimately weakening it by rotting it slowly. However, that is new leather in good condition, I have never really dealt with old leather, I vaguely remember something old being brought in, and him suggesting the same as you, so I think I will give it a try before it fossilises!
