    You don't fancy having a go at the bodywork on my Malta Mutt do you? :nut:

     

    I have a complete large under body repair kit here if you need to borrow any bits to copy.

  2. As for the second, running and driving vehicle I have started work on the rear tub

     

    The worst areas are the rear floor, passenger footwell and battery tray and tool box, I decided that I would like to fabricate the pieces myself.

    I cut the panel out in one piece, then cut it into 2 pieces for ease of getting it in and out of the vehicle

  3. A quick progress update, the donor car, I have had running, so I am a step closer to getting another running vehicle.

     

    Before trying anything, I took the head off, it was not to bad, there were flakes of rust from the rocker box.. Nothing the fiancée's dyson couldn't fix

    With impeccable timing, endless patience and weeks of planning, I was able to sneak the hoover under the girlfriend radar... I do not recommend doing this, it can be very dangerous, sometimes resulting in serious injury or death.

    After a few hours tinkering, it was time to connect the batteries - along with quick release battery terminals..

    And with a little help from my friend Mr easystart, the car was running on all 4 albeit for seconds! Next I will reconnect a radiator, find a old dynamo just to tension the fan belt and sort out a fuel line so it can be tested properly, before taking the engine and gearbox out to put into the other vehicle.

  4. Work start on the poorer car, I Removed the engine (had no gearbox) this is no more than a rolling chassis. I turned the car onto its side, and rested it on a oak beam. This was I could thoroughly clean and access what needs to be done.

    This gives a rough idea of just how incomplete the car is, the shell of it however is far better than the other car I choose to break.

    Again, it's fairly riddled with gung ho repairs! This looks like it was gas axed out and welded in (badly and never painted.)

    The front of it though is very straight, most cars had dented bumpers and front ends that are difficult to repair.

  5. Hi all, this is my thread for the restoration of my two, M151A2 MUTT's imported from Portugal. I bought 3 and a half vehicles, the two Cars I have chosen to restore (my thanks to Ken the Mutt guru for finding this out!) are both 1977 cars.

    There is a fair bit of rot in the car, worst is the rail the rear wishbones mount to, also note the forklift damage on the exhaust.

  6. Your Jack knife was made from 1905 until being phased out in 1938. The scales could be horn and the leaf shaped blade with the peg is the canopener, drive the point of the blade into can then the peg rests on the rim and you joggle it around the edge. As to being issued in the 1970, not likelyin UK . Canada still produced jack knives with this type of canopener well into the 1960 but the knives were all metal. John,

     

    Horn sounds more likely its brown almost black, when you get the sun on it, it has the lighter brown pattern showing through in places. I not questioning anyone, but I would have expected later ones to be wood or another readily available material?

    I would have guessed it was wartime, only because, the house has been in our family since 1950's sometime, and my grandparents were the only people with a military background, they had a lot of kit from the war, that the kept and carried on using as the saw no value in it. One that springs to mind immediately is my Gran's old '42 medic bag she used for clothes pegs. :D

  7. I was browsing our local military tat yard, I picked out some stuff I wanted for my vehicles, and found this, the guy there said I could have it. Is it some standard issue thing for a vehicle or did it have a specific purpose in life? It also had a little tag? not sure if that was put on when it was got rid of? I have taken a few pictures for you.

  8. On my nature reserve the night faries came and emptied the diesel tank, a week later they took the generator, destroying the shed it was in in the process, 12kw lister petter so no lightweight.

     

    For months after we had to work with a massive hired gennie, that would require a crane to nick.

    Was anything recovered? was anyone arrested for the thefts? No, never heard anything about it again.

     

    It was not the first time that we had been targeted so we spent £150,000 on having mains electricity installed. Money that was to go to rebuilding the field centre, it makes me so angry!

     

    That is so unfair! :mad:

  9. This one has the 2 blades like yours, the main one is about 4" and small one is 2" knife is about 5" overall and has a 4" spike? finish looks almost like bone with a copper loop? I can just about make out 'SCOTIA' then below 'J.MC GLOR' then just 'SHEFFIELD' corrosion has set into fairly badly and I cant see the last letters, couldn't believe it when I found it in the dirt though! I think again, might have been dropped by my grandfather who owned the house originally, Dare say its worth nothing but interesting none the less!

  10. It really sickens me, when you hear of these losers nicking drain covers and coper from the railways etc. ultimately its our taxes picking up the tab and I dare say they are on the doll at the same time!

    I was at ECO build in London this year, I spoke to a company who are using recycled plastic from bottles etc. to make bollards and drain covers, the main benefit, aside from environmental is no bugger nicks them!!

    Fuel is going too, I had a call from my friend that works in forestry recently, folk had been on site, stolen the diesel bowser and punched holes in most of the machines fuel tanks! They just leave the caps on the machines unlocked now, Fuel is cheaper than the downtime a punctured tank causes!!

  11. :laugh: Something like that! I'm hoping to build one good car out of the 2 and a half, ending up with a nice bundle of parts. The car on the left is quite rotten but almost running and one on the right is not a bad shell but has no running gear and is basically just a rolling chassis, the half has all its running gear so that's a spares department! The one on the top is now running and driving and is the vehicle I am focusing most of my attention on at the moment.
