  1. http://www.g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=582484 this thread has some pretty neat pictures of what i think your looking for http://www.g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=45464 another one, unrestored. hope this helps! :-) http://www.g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=197091&hilit=Tac+mark http://www.g503.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=84&t=78894
  2. My goodness all the way from Colorado! haha I had my M715 trailered up from Oklahoma to Ohio, and i thought that was a long way.. haha. Looks like its gonna be a great project though, I too am jealous, i just love those closed cabs.
  3. That's actually quite brilliant. I'm suprised that something similar hasn't been utilized over in the western states, in the wild forest fire areas.
  4. When I removed the handguards, I realized that the cylinder was actually unscrewed with the pin still in place. I get the feeling someone some where wasn't doing their job. lol. Havn't made it to the woods to test it yet, but i no longer need to sell it! Things all of the sudden got stable, a rare treat these days haha.
  5. That is quite interesting, nice find!
  6. Stumbled upon this whilst looking at armoured land rovers on google images. British South African Police. Hardly looks like a land rover anymore cept for the grill, which looks like an early series II. Not much info is supplied other than apperently they were called a moon buggy (wonder why?? :-P). "Armoured Land Rover at Tods Hotel" http://www.bsap.org/bsapgallery/main.php?g2_itemId=3879 There was a few pics of different one in a gallery elsewhere on the site. sameearly series II grill but a slightly different body, called a 'Rhinomine resistant vehicle'. I wonder if these were modified as part of a small series (well 2 different series) or if they were all field mods by individual groups. I also wonder what "Tods Hotel" was. I've been in somewhat of an armoured Land Rover kick lately and am looking for information on older variations. especially small series modification and low production examples from the odd corners of the world.
  7. found this pic of some 3/4 ton WC's converted to rail use. these are different than those that have turned up in france from time to time. looks like it could be a greek flag on the bumper?
  8. It actually does turn by hand, but only after being freed (cautiously) with a pair of vice-grips. looks the regulator hadn't been adjusted since the upper was installed after import... i wonder how many times this firearms was sold because it 'didnt work' lol. i know i picked it up for about 1/3rd what they usually run hahaha.
  9. I've got an Austrian STG.58 variant of the FAL, i have a question regarding the gas adjustment. The regulator is currently on the hold open possition. i already understand the procedure, my question is - i was wondering if the tool was required to do so? or if i could just muscle it or maybe use a household tool safely or without causing damage to the firearm itself. i plan on selling it in a few weeks and cant really drop the cash on the tool, or a gunsmith.
  10. that i do not know unfortunately (sad face). i could not find any pictures where you could see the back door, or even the left side of the vehicle for that matter. lol maybe one will turn up soon, in the meantime ill keep scrounging around.
  11. was this the one? photo taken from UC4x4.com forums not supermotors.net lol http://www.uc4x4.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=2767
  12. Most USAF vehicle of the time were painted blue. is should also say "Us Air Force " on the door and have the vehicle number below that. All blue vhelicles that i have seen have the regular green canvas on them. My M715 has air force markings on the door, but it is painted a slightly different olive green color. i believe this is because they were used as tactical security vehicles. instead of utility/ light duty transports such as the m37s, which were painted blue
  13. ahh yes, now that that's been said it makes perfect sense :-P some how on all my visits to that site, i managed to skip over this little bit "3 cyl 170cid Cerlist 85hp 2 cycle diesel engine was typical". hahaha. i know that vast majority of the civvy FC's had the gasoline powered 'hurricane' I4's
  14. i never knew the navy opted for diesels, i didnt even know they were available in the FC's. as far as designations go - M-676 Truck, Cargo, Pick Up M-677 Truck, Cargo, Pick Up w/4 door cab M-678 Truck, Carry All M-679 Truck, Ambulance on source says about 600 M-67xx FC's were ordered by the military, another says 1000. further information on http://olive-drab.com/idphoto/id_photos_willys_fc.php hope this helps, it'd be interesting to see one of these driving across the deck of a carrier.
  15. woowie, things have certinaly been re aranged between when you visited and i visited. I know one of the M5's had an engine when i was there. the engine and radiator on the yellow one was gone for sure when i was there. and what exactly is teh yellow one, it looks like a civvy cab on possibly an M4? anderson - i find it ammusing that we parked our vehicles in almost the exact same spot hahaha
  16. Looks like something from Mad Max in its current state. haha. Did you say it was a movie prop? any idea what movie it was used in?
  17. Hammermark, as of yet I do not have any more pictures of those vehicles, ill take more and try to peak inside next time im up there, and inquire about the price. Robin – yes, yes it is. Lol And I’m not sure about the parting out, ill ask about that, also Scammel – it was rather sobering walking through all this knowing it could have very well all been scrapped. I don’t think any of it is currently destined to the heap. From what I understand about the M4’s, they were used by logginf companies back in the day, who had no need for the ammo boxes. And they tended to replace the ageing engines with newer ones, so all the engines were stripped out years ago, probably scrapped too unfortunately. But before all these could be sold to the loggers, the civilian market started pumping out purpose built swamp logging equipment so the retrofitting of old HST’s was no longer necessary. So here they sit. Waiting for people with enough cash and freetime. Not sure about the M6. didn't they have 2 engines also ;-P
  18. im gonna try to pre awnser some questions here :-P. there were 37 M4HST's, 3 M5HST's, only 1 M8HST and 1 M6HST. 5 champs (who knows how they got HERE lol), 5 Mack NO's (i think they were macks) and 2 M559 tankers. and that panal version of the M37 is an actual production variant, not a post service mod. it would be (if my brain is working right) a M152CDN. a utility-Panel version of the M43ambulance. my sources indicate that only about 1000 were made, its deffinatly the first one ive seen. i havnt looked at the ID plate yet, so it could be a XM152, the non-standard American variant, but there were only 4 or 5 of those i think. and that huge tractor trailer lookin thing is one of "Atomic Annies' prime movers. 1 or 2 im told. also, does anyone recognize the camouflage on the M715, doesnt look American, but it had tire pressure markings where they should be.
  19. theres alot more here than you see in the pictures, i was loosing light fast, and i never actually made it through the whole yard again feel free to direct anything you wanna know towards me, im going back within the month, and am more than happy to act as a go-between if necessary.
  20. a few months ago it was brought to my attention that sam weiners military salvage yard was less than 2 hours away from my house. so i took a trip up and quickly snapped a few pictures. i would have gotten more but i kinda ran out of light, this place is huge, it just kept going. I am taking another trip up sometime during march to get more pictures and hopefully see what i didn't get a chance to see. so please feel free to direct any questions or inquires to me and ill ask the nice man when i see him again. so without further adu, let the adventure begin
  21. Looks like they are wearing Pattern 1914 belts and bandoleer pouches. Also you can just see the bayonet handles on the far right man, and second and third from the left. you can actually zoom in surprisingly close without distorting the picture too much
  22. Upon closer examination i think those are P14 Enfields. looking at the bayonet lug and the front sight, also the curve of the stock just before the magazine.
  23. Quite an interesting picture.. The more i look at it the more interesting it becomes, the man on the far left must be the one in charge. Are they holding lee-metford's? Those deffinatly dont look like MLE's, or SMLE's to me. And the building behind the far right man almost looks like a block house.
  24. That does look alot like our woodland camo, and that does look an awful lot like a good old map-hat. The brim looks alittle off though, does it have a tag? Believe it or not, none of these items actually came from a surplus store, just little back ally 'used/2nd hand junk' store's with clothing sections, and goodwill store's.
