  1. One thing I hate about auctions is you never quite know what's going on.

I must admit I've never quite understood the people who bid in winks, tics and minimalist signals - it seems to me such behaviour enables shill bidding.

The auctioneers and large buyers/dealers don't want you to know what's going on. To be a successful buyer you need to attend auctions regularly just to watch in order to understand the way things are manipulated before attending as a buyer.

  2. You're welcome Alec, I forgot to mention Morris's will have a stockist in your area and it is normally cheaper to buy from them rather than direct from Morris Oils. May I suggest you join the Steel Soldiers forum which is where all the M35 guru's reside.

  3. Can someone help me I am looking to replace all the fluids and oils in the M35 a2 I have just bought, what and were can I get them ?

Engine Straight 30 grade such as Morris's classic

Gearbox transfer box Straight 90 (not EP) such as Morris's AG90

    Axel As above

    Radiator antifreeze Your choice

Brakes I assume you mean hydraulic fluid, again your choice but don't mix DOT5 with other specs.

Wheel hubs Front hubs/ rubber gaiters are filled with grease and are a total abortion. If there is any oil present it is coming from the front diff and the relevant oil seals are fitted well inside the axle tube and can be awkward to remove

Too much grease in the gaiters will result in them either splitting or slipping out of their mounting clamps, too little and the uj's wil fail.

  4. John is correct, there are lots of restrictions on vehicles taxed for agricultural use, they change quite frequently and never seem to be publicised by the authorities, the way farmers belatedly find out about them is usually via the farming press.

It seems to be up to the individual to use the relevant Gov't website to check the regulations but care is needed as the interpretation the individual puts on the reg's may not tally with the view of the police and ultimately the courts.

Incidentally what type of vehicle are we discussing?

  5. With respect Robin's question is perfectly relevant. He is very experienced and is trying to help you, presumably without having any army publications to quote from, you are tapping into a huge pool of knowledge on here but you cannot expect help if you refuse to answer straightforward questions. What's the big secret anyway?

  6. Normally there is three of us 'old codgers' together and we support the RBL and the RNLI with vehicles whenever possible.

We used to support Help for Heroes but never again, I won't go into details for legal reasons, suffice to say organisation left a lot to be desired (putting it politely), we were badly treated and there were financial issues we were not happy about.

  7. Yes well done Derek this is indeed a sparking plug!

The point is that it is a low voltage system. The problem being that at high altitudes the air density is decreased which causes problems in 10kV systems with the spark jumping the insuation in the plug itself or in the HT leads, especially after long operating periods.

In this plug the spark doesn't jump an air gap but "glides" along the surface of the insulation ceramic. This can be achieved with voltages as low as 400-1000 volts.

The source of this is the Combined Intelligence Objectives Sub-Committee File No. XXIX-53 15th August 1945.

    Diagram to follow.

    .

Thanks Clive. I was late in seeing this post by which time the answers were way over my head:???. The clues were there, I just couldn't see the wood for the trees.

  8. i read a post on fb a couple of days ago extolling the virtues of the latest edition , i assume this means that it is now in the shops . It always used to be the case that subscribers could expect to get their copies before it went on general release - one of the 'perks' of subscribing . Maybe mine will turn up soonish and i'll get to see what is in it ! As others have said , the quality has declined noticeably since the last change of editor . I did wonder what to expect when one of the first editorials under the new man said (and i paraphrase here) here i am sitting in france , don't know much about this subject but you all send me your copy and pictures and i'll shuffle them round a bit to make something magazine like .

Having taken cmv since it was first published when my current sub runs out that will be it . A shame as it used to be a good interesting little mag if you didn't want the in depth detail of wheels & tracks and the like .

    snap:-d

  9. Assuming your M35 is pre 1960 and taxed and insured as an Historic MV you are only allowed to tow another vehicle if it is broken down and then only to a place of safety (in the opinion of the police). Under any other circumstances the towed vehicle would be classed as a trailer with all that entails. The chances of actually being stopped and accused of possibly multiple offences is negligible until the day an accident occurs when your insurance company will immediately disappear into the long grass and you could even be left with claims against you running into millions although this is obviously worst case scenario.

  10. Oh Kerist, don't get me started on cyclists. Last week one collided with me at night when I was walking on the pavement near my house and tonight an almost identical incident only this time there was two of 'em and I was only clipped on the arm. They were all adults riding at speed without lights and came from behind me, none of them stopped and in the first incident the busturd swore at me and rode on laughing, leaving me lying on the floor. It's a well lit main road and I will recognise him, my time will come and big and young as he is, old age and an old trick will cause this tw*ts downfall.:cool2:
