maybe its around the other way? If you select 1st, it engages 4 wheel drive? You then have to put it back into 2 wheel drive if required? I know that sound sthe same but is subtly different?

does it force some ancillary device on the engine into action? Is it in the engine compartment?

Is it something to do with the engine/drivetrain rather than armorment?

Would there have been just one on each vehicle? (or one per corner maybe?)

Only some pigs had them & it would have been pointless & impossible to fit more than one.

Looks like it needs resetting with a spanner, so its maybe not easy to reset, so its a bit of a last resort whatever it is!

and its the anniversary of his death on 16th Aug.....its his reg number in the army :-)

Is the mechanism mounted inside the vehicle, including the plunger? Anything to do with water-canons?

Its obviously attached to the vehicle at an angle? For quick exit, forcing rear doors open to let troops out?
