Both of them were up the chuff!, But now sorted! :yay:

Two new batteries and whilst I was at it, I cleaned up the battery box's and fitted a isolator!! :captain:

She now sings like a little 6 cylinder birdie! :nut:

Just wanted to say thanks to all who gave thier tips and advice and offers to come n help, but....needed to sort it out myself if you know where I is coming from! :banghead:

  3. Hi Folks, :-D

I'm getting a bit concerned here, :dunno:

I may have missed the point somewhere in all this, but.....Can someone tell me straight where the hell I stand now!!

I have a De-Ac .30 on my ferret, the gubbins have all been removed including the actual barrel!

In its place I have at my own expence had a machined tube made to replace it! It is also now a Gas Gun!

So, it now looks like a real one, inside and out ( Dummy innert clipped rounds in feed plate) and it sounds like the real thing! 8-)

Am I now breaking the Law??? :oops2:

I wrote to the home office about this issue when it all first started, I recieved a nice little letter from the Office dealing with the issue and they stated ...Then!.. That what I hed was perfectly OK!

Has all this changed so much!!! :redfaced:

  4. Whilst your in there, you may as well check your oil filters too.... these can play havoc if they are clogged up, as happenned to us at Beltring couple o years ago, just a thought mate cos if there are 'sticky' contacts, the rest of the accessible items may as well get a goot seeing too!

Good Luck with it, I still Miss the old girl!

    Fred

  5. As for pay well!!!!.... I work in the NHS.....Enough said eh!! :banghead:

Will be cracking on as soon as I get the chance, just about to go and see How Much!!

EEEEK! This is the bit I always dread, as soon as they say " Wot's it for" as you utter those words a historic military vehicle....their eye's always seem to light up, Thinking...got a Rich Bugger Here!!! :argh:

    Ah Well Here Goes!!

    Will keep all informed!

    All the Beast

    Fred & Annika  :yay:

  6. PS.

The bit about again was just my continuation of an old thread, will be getting battery soon, but due to shiftwork...may be a little while before I can get on with it again!

This problem is the first time the old girl has failed me!... And its my fault ...I did this to her!!

    Cheers

    Fred

  7. Hi Chris and Tony,

Thanks for that, glad...Well, not glad in that way but I think you know what I mean (Chris) that you had the same problem!! AND that it was resolved by replaceing the battery!

Will have to get one anyway cos this one is knackered!!

The other one WOW!! Connected up the charger to that one and :dancinggirls: Straight up to "I'm Fully Up For It Mate"Full charge without even plugging it in!

Tony, Evaporate or Boiled off!! Its Gone and thats it!! Ha Ha!...Aint that two similar things?? :rtfm:

It was my fault anyway ...I have dropped the clanger! Dur!! :banghead:

Won't do that again, if I had reported this fault to REME when I was on them ....My Feet wouldn't have touched eh!! :oops2:

I will change the Battery and give it a whirl...Fingers crossed all will end OK?

As for Hydrometer..No..But will be getting one now! I have the readings on my ferret maintainance disc. :rtfm:

    Thanks for that though Lads,

    All the Beast

    Fred

  8. Hi Folks,

Now...If one of the Batteries is up the swanny!! ie...Won't hold a charge/won't charge up fully at all even after a overnight charge!! :banghead:

Would I be right in assuming that this would cause a virtual break in the system???

ie... The Liights come on, then when you go to operate the starter the lights dim or go out completely!! now not even getting the occasional 'Clunk' from the starter solenoid!!

I did drop a almighty clanger!.. Did not keep a good eye on my battery levels...They had both evaporated over the summer periods!! :redfaced: :banghead:Not completely dry ...but very very naughty

Will keep an eye on them in future! :flower:

    I'm all ears! :help:

    Fred & Annika  :yay:

  10. Same here!

Sorry John, not being funny.... but I can not remember ever seeing a LMG on the ferret ....Except the Mk 1!!

Goog Luck though, I had to make a mock GPMG when I first got my old girl, but I fell on my feet and was 'Given' a Browning .30 which I have now converted to Gas!!

We used to call them the' Demented Daleks' in Ireland because of the 30 bobbing along on top.

I dont know what sort of mount you have in your turret, but should you ever need to 'adapt' a Gimpy mount to take the 30, let me know and I can send you some pickies to show how I managed it?

    All the Beast,

    Happy Ferreting,

    Fred

  11. Hi Jack,

Me thinks this guy is gonna be a very un-popular chappy in the good old Deuche states eh!

I mean it is not exactly an era of German history that most modern Germans are exactly proud of, and he intends to start rolling a New Even Better Tiger off the production line! :schocked:

Would not like to be his PR man eh! :oops2:

    All the Beast

    Fred

  12. Im Being Picky AGAIN!!!!

Bren? :schocked: I Think it should be a GPMG!! or a Browning .30!! :deal:

They may have had a Bren or7.62 LMG, on the very early MK 1 's but...Sorry, Gotta get it right Chaps....I did use to be on em!! :modpwr:

    All the Beast

    Fred

  13. Cheers Alien!! :box:

I have been tied up on a few interior decorating jobs just lately in between shifts.... So... Not been able to pursue my woe's yet on the old girl, but will keep all informed of said problem!! :banghead:

In case it should ever happen to anyone else ou there!

    All the Beast

    Fred

  14. Hi Paul,

Can I be a bit Picky here!!

If you have renovated your ferret to a early 70's mob? It would have a C13 Or C42 & B47 set up with Larkspur B Harness if attached to a RAC or Cavalry mob ie. recce for the tanks etc. but clansman was just coming in when I was leaving the army in 1977, so..... Up to you chuck! :cofee:

PS. If you find someone selling one for a decent price and not silly money.... Do Tell Me!!

I am looking for such a setup too! :flower:

    All the Beast,

    Fred

  15. Hi All... Me Again!! :schocked:

Andrea, I am a paramedic with Kent...I mean South East Coast Amb Serv.!!!

It was much easier to just say Kent!!

Tony, Yes have checked batteries, also these were brand new when I got them two years ago, straight out of the boxes! Had them filled and charged up at my little local battery shop. :cofee:

I did have a loose connection in the switch box when I was recovering the vehicle a couple of years ago, though this was not actually causing a problem at the time...But...Will be taking it apart again soon and inspect it all! :help:

The clunk that I get from the engine on the odd occasions that it makes a contact is definately a solenoid kick!

But I am now wondering if ..as there are three contacts on the starter switch...it may well be one of these is up the chuff perhaps?

Will find out soon !!! :captain:

Dave and Sirhc thanks, will let you know if all goes T*** Up!!

    Anyway, All the Beast,

    Fred

  16. Ahh, Gotcha now!

    Cheers for that Andrea!

Anyway.. The Saga continues, Have checked all the connections, No movement or damage found! ... The Batteries are kicking out 27.5 Volts! ...But ...Still the same!! :banghead:

Me thinks it could be the actual switch??

It does have a slight movement in it that it didn't have before! Any takers that this could be where my trouble lays?? :help:

I fear a long and very cramped working position coming up eh!

    It's just a total Sod! :oops2:

Still open to any other suggestions.... Mind you, Andrea might have the best one, ...Just welt the B**** Thing! Might not fix it but might make me feel a whole lot better eh!

    Cheers Folks

    All the Beast

    Fred

  17. Hi Folks,

Cheers for all the suggestions, will take the Batts out and check em both... but will also check the terminals and..... check all the earth strips first!! but, think it could be poss for one of the batts to have struck the lid....Had a bit of a rough moment at W&P this year

So...Will check those points over again,

The funny thing is the lights.. both come on but as you try the starter switch, the lights just dim out or go out completely...Then occasionally the lights will return with a brighter glow, and then the switch makes that contact click/clunk! :what:

Just out of interest...What is a Clopftest????? :dunno:

All the Beast Folks and Many Thanks

    Fred

  18. Hi Folks,

    I have a problem!! :banghead:

Ferret Mk 2/4, Has been running fine, then parked up after the shows, now....... It Won't Start!! :argh:

Turn it on, operate starter switch, lights dim but nowt happens! Occasionally the lights brighten slightly then when you operate the switch you get a click/clunk from the starter....but thats it!

Have topped up the batteries, charged them both up, reconnected it all....and same again!! :banghead:

    HELP!!! :flower:

Am I overlooking somat or is there a simple remedy?? :rtfm:

All instrument guages and lights work, but its getting me depressed now!

Would welcome any suggestions PLEASE!!

    All the Best Folks

    Fred

  19. Hi Everyone,

I was at the Oddessy this year, was not impressed but thats another story...

While I was there, met up with a chap who called himself 'Singe' as in burnt!!

He owns a Daimler Dingo and dresses in WW2 British army kit, he is acting as his grandfather who served with 8 Corps, as did my father! So, now you get the picture, :-D He packed up and cleared off over night and never got a chance to find out where he actually came from. :banghead:

Would just like to get in touch with him as next year at W&P me and the Mrs are dressing up in WW2 uniforms, me as my Dad and Annika as my Mum (REME & RAF Aux.)

If anyone knows of him could they let me know please, he was a good ol boy in my book!
