  1. Hi Folks,

As the new owner of a WW2 truck, I have been reading through the reprinted original workshop manual and .... Don't know what the modern = of these oils are?

    30 HD - Engine oil

C.600 -Axles, Gearbox, Transfer box etc etc.

    Grease No.2 & No.3

And is Brake fluid No.3 the same as Dot 3??

Any help would be appreciated Please!

    All the best

    Fred

  2. Hi All,

Sorry But Did NOT buy the QL in the finnish!!!

I went to view it today, Sunday, ....Where do I start!!

All I can say is...It was so sad to see a vehicle so neglected!

She is in a terrible state of dis-repair, She desperately needs rescue, and SOON! But the task is just way out of my budget!

It just needs so much doing to it, it will need to be completely stripped down and will need so many new parts!

Such a sad sight, its really bad.

    So, Now completely Vehicleless

  3. Hi Folks,

Ref the Bedford QL Trooper in this months CMV!!!

I went to view this vehicle today!

Needless to say, I did not buy it!

It is going to be a totall strip down to chassis, it will need many new parts, a major project for whoever gets it!

I was upset to see one in this state, but she does need rescue....Soon!

But it will need a lot of work and an awfull lot of money spent on her, way out of my league in way of budget!

All Im saying is buyer Beware!!

But... I do hope someone rescues the poor old girl soon!

    Vehicleless Fred

  4. Thanks Richard,

Don't know if its gonna happen, I have to sell the ferret first, bit of a sod really cos you know how rare these old girls are to get hold of!!

Just hope no one gets there before I can sell the old girl eh!

Fingers crossed or hope I find someone able to offer a short term loan !! Ha Ha!

Will let you know how it goes matey,

All the Best to You and Yours,

  5. Hi Richard,

The answer to that is dependant on my selling the ferret!

I aint got the pennies unless I can sell the old girl but of course... it wont wait for ever eh!

But if it works out, its a Trooper, needs a bit o work, non runner at mo as in, a couple of valves seized, but if I can get it and get it back here, then I can fix it!!

    Fingers crossed eh!

    All the Best Mate

  7. Hi Folks,

Getting Desperate now! I have put a add on wanted section.....but no takers as yet!

I'm looking for a Bedford QL preferably a D type, I'm going to be selling my Ferret possibly, after the Faversham show at the end of August!!!

I just don't want to be left without any vehicle!

Any body know of one thats going or someone thinking of changing to a different vehicl!!

Any Help would be most Welcomed?

    All the Beast

    Fred

  8. Poptopshed... Its purpose was for the comander to wander off a few metres away from the vehicle so he could lay down on a crest etc. doing the obo, leaving the vehicle out of sight and relay what he see's to the driver who then reports on the radio back to a base stn. or calls in artillery or air strike etc...... Nowadays of course the infantryman can do it all on a B....laptop!!

All it had was a field phone which you simply screw clamped onto the cable.

The reason there was so much on the drum was in case you had to get the **** out a bit sharpish and you just cut the cable n run!

As for the othercomment of thats what ALL my drums look like!!!.... Do you want to perhaps sell one????? X

I just want to start putting some kit on the outside to make it look more operational, it's a bit too clean at the moment!! :box:

Still looking for a radio to put inside! Even if it don't work I would just like it to look right inside aswell!

  9. The only guy I know with a Cent is Phill Benham...If he aint sold it yet!!

Can't get hold of him on his web-site...it don't work!

If all else fails...Your dad is most welcome to drive my ferret?

At the War & Peace Show!

The Scots Greys must have had them?

I only knew them after the amalgamation with the Carbineers (RSDG)

    All the Beast mate,

Could try the old 118118 He's up on the M4 ..Reading way somewhere?

    Fred

  10. Oh Smeg!!!

I didn't buy the one that has the carrying bar! I have bought just the drum with cable!!

But looking at the photo...I am missing the outer part alright!

Just my B..... ! Luck!! :banghead:

Ah Well..Back to the drawing board eh! :redfaced:

    Thanks folks

    Fred

  11. As far as I can recall....No! ...But...Might not be a bad idea to fit them if you can?

I was on chieftains in service but they were at that time Mk 3s & 4's!!!

They may have changed various parts on the system from those days!

The turret batteries were mainly for running radio's, boiling vessel etc when you could not have any engines running but... If you can get them, I would fit them!

Sorry I can't help any more mate...wish I could come n get my hands dirty on her with you!

    All the Beast

    Fred

  12. PS...

Even though I be 'Knockin on a Bit'.... I still wear my original kit...( Yes it still fits!)

Though I will have to ....repaint my old girl... its a somewhat different scheme to our old girls in NI!! :redfaced:

    Fred

  13. Hi Paul....

I like the sound of this!!

I went to a lot of trouble fitting a 30 simulator to my ferret but ...Never seem to get a chance to play with it! :banghead:

I would be happy to offer my ferret from time to time if you need a bit of....NOISE occasionally!

    All the Beast

    Fred & Annika  :yay:

  14. Hi All

    Me again!! :banghead:

Yet another prob?? Have just ordered and recieved a D10 cable drum from ebay!

All arrived OK but....No spindle or handle or anything! :redfaced:

Oversite on my part! Does anyone happen to have any photo's of one fitted to a ferret? All the pics of ferrets seem to be taken from the spare wheel side! :argh:

Would just like to know how its fitted so I know what to look for or get made?

Unless of course anyone just happens to have a 'Buckshee' one that they can flog me ??

I used to work on em when I was in the mob ... but...It was 30+ years ago!

    All the beast folks

    Fred & Annika  :yay:

  15. PS.

Further thought...Don't happen too often!!

The gunners stab control is the best place to start, does anything operate differently when you select Stab or non - stab, reason I ask is that on one of ours, the system would stabilise fine in non stab but not in stab!!

Also, not teachin ya t suck eggs... but you are holding the metadyne start up switch for a good 20 to 30 secs eh? Up and Down? ...And ya little red light has gone off before ya sstart to try eh? :-D

They can be tempramental little darlings!

    Fred :coffee2:

  16. Ok, here we go again

I've decided to get the turrets working now

    As it stands

    1st Tank, the new one.

Psu starts light gos out ,turn knob to non stab, metadynes start ok.

Commanders or gunners thumb controller doe's not control any turret movement.

Gunners,There is a loud click when you pull the lever but no movement.

Commanders, there is a loud click and as soon as you pull it the gun depresses without command

    2nd tank, the mk 11,

    the psu will not start

    pictures to follow

    Hi Sean,

Behind the commander is a box, you will need to possibly contact Bovington, but in that box are all the control systems for the metadynes etc. You will need specialist help on that one mate.

The clunk sound is GOOD though!! Shows a good contact, but just out of interest, which sort of duplex hand controls do you have on that one?

The newer tiny thumb joystick, or the older type where you pull the trigger and move the complete handle up n down n side t side?

Wish I could come n play ...I really do miss the old girl!!

    All the Beast Mate

    Fred

  17. Its A Small World eh!!!

But as Spike Milligan said...I wouldn't want to have to paint it!!!

Sept 76...That means you two took over from me!!! I was there in March to Sept 76!! :-D

Now... I have a question for you two then (Alien n Baz ) Do either of you two remember a painting on the wall in the billet across from the radio room??? A painting on the wall about 3'by 4' of a Black Panther on a Red background!!

If you do....It Was Me!!! (Who painted it that is!)

    Anyway,

I have some more pickies of those times but not very good quality now!

  18. Could make our first meeting brief then!! :-)

I was a Trooper in one of the Regiments - 21 to be precise.... :-) :-)

Very few know there were actually 3 Regiments (I'm told Des Browne the MoD's mis-managing MP has merged 21 and 23 into what was "R" squadron of 22) or their geographical roles and operational doctrines- it's an easy way to nobble a "wannabe. :-)

    Sorry Mate

But you of all people will know what I mean! :cofee:

My only contact with SAS guys was in NI, when a team of them asked us to go on a VCP and operate in a sloppy manner ie lighting up ciggies etc. to attract the attention of a group they were trackin!!

Needless to say...none of us fancied being the victim of the third light!! if you get my drift!

We did the patrol and the VCP but....very twitchy!!!...Think they got their quarry without our help tho...there was no contact!!...So... they must have got there before us eh?

Anyway, would love to join you for a cuppa....if you will still let me? :redfaced:

  20. Well...He Was ONLY 2 PARA!!!! ( Only 2 things fall out the sky,Bird S... n Para's ...except the Bird S.... is far more accurate!!)

As was mentioned about my wearing of my fathers uniform etc. ...It is not disrespectfull and anyway...was the guy really ex 2 para...There are a lot of wannaby's out there, just the same as when anyone comes up to me at any of the shows and starts off with the "I was in the SAS".....I straight away lose any interest in what ever else they have got to say!!

Cos its gonna be C.....

But of course it also makes them wonder when I point out that I was a Trooper in the Regiment!!!...All ex Life Guards refer to it as "The Regt" and I was ...A Trooper!!

Makes em stop n think tho!!

You wear it mate, just as I will wear it .... its for our fathers not for us!! Its Called PRIDE!
