When testing a 1980 Bedford 4x4 mk would it fail on front steer axle tyres if they are over 10 years old ?

1 I have read that non comical use vechiles over 40 years old are exempt of the 10 year rule ,but in the vosa testing manual there is no mention of this so would a testing station fail it even though other government legislation says it is exempt.

has any one tested a 3.5 ton + hobby vehicle that's over 40 years, post February 2021 test with older that 10 year tyres on the front steer axle?

If a 3.5 ton + is used privately and 40+ years old registered as historic and you test it does the 10 year tyre rule on the stear axle still applie ?

so a vehicle that can do over 25 mph and is over 8 metres pre 1 April 1986 needs side reflectors.

surprising no exemption on year ,so things like a hippo and dukw and famo half track would need them on to the pre 1st April 1986 spacing legislation to be road worthy.

Does any one know if there is any exemption for side reflectors on large vehicles due to age ?

Ie does a scammell explorer or steam road going engine  need them to be road worthy?

I can get the Whenever requirements for camouflage and concealment outweigh the requirements for recognition, the national symbol may be covered by lusterless olive-drab gasoline solvent paint, camouflage nets, oil and dirt, etc., or will beremoved.

but the half track in the picture has a big white star on the hood so I do not think the small black star on the side is done for concealmen?

I thought shipping dimensions but the first line is quite long and out of proportion to the usual shipping dimensions I have seen?

I see on the half track just past the drivers door towards the rear there is a small black star within a yellow circle.

why the black star not white?

what would be all the stenciling past the black star towards the rear?

Hi I have rebuilt 6 6046 twin packs with 2 valve heads and dynoed 6 engines with the n80 injectors fitted in two valve head but all engines had the later bigger port liners run fine.

on a 4 hour full load run 245 hp 601 foot pound torque 2083 rpm blower pressure of 5.02 psi exhaust gas temperature 564 centigrade 1047 Fahrenheit.(each engine is nynoed on its own from a 6046)

n80 and 4 valve head gave more hp and torque

should have measured decibels in dyno room at full load that would be high!

As you say would not want to run n80s with the original liners small surface area compared to the modern ones.

the low block block does obscure the base of the new liner ports slightly but I have a military manual that says to grind the block to clear I have done this on a 6046 but made no difference on dyno results.

the injector arms if you grind/machine a notch to clear injector body works fine .

no external fuel rails is not a guarantee it is a 4 valve head 6-71  cylinder head casting number 5108548 has built in fuel gallery's and is a 2 valve head.

there is various mods that I do to the heads for more efficient cooling on the original 2 valve heads as recommended by  Detroit ,better as with n80s injectors will be getting more power =heat  than the ww2 setup.

if you like a visual clean exhaust then go for n65 injectors and 4 valve heads do not know what hp that will give you as have never dynoed that set up but did know of a gun carriage set up like that very clean exhaust.

If you convert a 2 axle 5th wheel military expandable 1969 trailer in to a caravan only no load space or items carried that is not incidental to living/staying in caravan gross weight 6500 kgs what mot is needed ie car mot like motor homes over 3500kg or goods vehicle    test and plating or does it even need a mot?

So 28 mph and under does not need all wheel braking.

Pioneers is the one I was thinking of how you get it to be road worthy with no front brakes, I presumed there was a class it came under that allowed it to be used on the road with no frount brakes.

Does anyone know when you can use a vehicle over 3.5 ton with no frount brakes fitted?

Or any class of vehicle that exampts you from having them which is powered by a internal combustion engine?

Hi went to look at this today it is a bmk-150 not the bmk-150m which is the twin engine diesal version which also weighs more 3.8 ton 

the bmk-150 as in picture has 2 flat head six cylinder petrol engines in it.

weight of the bmk-150 is 2.5 ton with no brakes on the retractable road wheels need some thing large to stop it in military use.

I think Adrian should be writing the books !

It certainly looks like a radial Sherman all the rear top deck looks correct and the rear plate has the cut out for the cranking handle (round rod with a pin through it)

do you have a picture of the cutaway that is on the rear plate that you say is associated with radials.

Grizzly cast hull Sherman's do have a scalped out section on the rear centre top.

Hi was wondering the view of at what point a m51 becomes another model ie if the turret and gun  is changed to a 76mm is it then it should be called a a m4a1 76 hvss? (That's if it was a radial)

can it now be called for simplisty a m4 Sherman which after all it was before Israeli got hold of it and changed it from its war time guise.

i think it is excepted that the engine does not mater as I haven't  heard the m4 Sherman's that are now running the vt8-460 cummins being referred to as a super Sherman!.

i have also heard that a m51 should be restored to a m51 as that is what it is but I point out that is not what it is as it was changed in to that and going alone that line to restore to original should be how it left the production line?

Hi so it might be ok if he gets a civi trailer for the 1/2 track will have to watch weights as only 40 ton gcw.
