  1. A toastie warm Friday & Saturday, spent at The Tank Museum.

Along with the usual exhibits, guest appearances from the newly restored Ha-Go, the Panther Ausf A from Saumur, the Weald's Jagdpanther (Steering brakes playing up, so did a lap of the arena only)  & one of their Stugs (Went tech, I suspect, so didn't run), plus the newly restored Matilda II from the museum's collection (Which was also playing up in the heat) & the newly loaned Churchill MkIII..

  2. The BBMF's Dakota, was given the serial ZA947, in July 1979, as original serial number is (currently) unknown.

It was originally made for the USAAC, then transferred to the Royal Canadian Air Force, then came to the RAE in April 1969. It was originally given the serial KG661, until it was found that this Dakota had been destroyed in December '44.

The Fw190 pictured, is from Schnellkampfgeschwader 10 (SKG 10)  a bomber unit, so has appropriate unit codes.

  3. Like all these programs, made for the general public, not the knowledgeable enthusiast.  I saw one a few days back, they were searching for a Schwimwagen in Normandy.

Found it "eventually", in a farmer's barn. A bit of a rusty bodyshell, with what appears to be shrapnel damage. Still got its SS registration plate visible.

Old French farmer wouldn't part with it, even at Euros 60K!

Interesting to see what's still out there.

Treat it as a bit of entertainment, same as the other stuff on the History Channel, where clips of Spitfire MkXIVs are seen, when the Battle of Britain is discussed!

Just read about the BoB film in the current edition of "Britain at War".  The flight of Hurricanes in the film was composed of the only three flying planes they could scrape together, augmented by a bunch of the Buchon "Me 109s!  Must have another look at the film and check!

The clip posted by TonyB shows it. First 3 aircraft are the real Hurricanes, the three in the background are Buchons. Here's one of them. http://warbirds.wikia.com/wiki/File:Hurrischmitt6.jpg
