It appears that the rights of the college to dispose of the aircraft is disputed.

I remember reading about it on a now defunct website, it was becoming more & more derelict, when it was first seen by English eyes, in the late 80s, IIRC, it was in one piece, subsequently, the wings & engine had been parted from the rest of the airframe.

I'd suggest that it's in better hands now, without Western interest, it's probably have been recycled as Coke cans by now.

Having seen how the Spitfire recovered from a riverbed was "restored" http://www.warbirdsofindia.com/haryana/ambala/63-supermarine-spitfire-mv459.html

I'd suggest it's in safer hands where it is.

    • Why? Everyone know it was Lt. of the US Army that led the raid. The squadron used B17's, and the design for the bouncing bomb was based on a redneck skipping stones on his brother/ uncles ranch. That makes for a good story. Wasn't the leaders dog called Toto?
    • You dozy get, they were B29s!

  4. A Matilda II weighs in at 25 tons (29.6 tonnes)

    Length 15'11" (5.61m), width 8'6" (2.59m) Height 8'3" (2.52m)

The NSW Lancers' museum at Parramatta has one they're renovating, might be worth dropping them a line for specifics as to turret weight.

I'd guess that if the whole tank weighs in at 25tons, then the turret isn't going to be much under 3 tons!

This guy maybe worth contacting too.
