I used the space behind Jack's tent stand to dump a variety of storage boxes before a bulk transfer to the car park (big thanks, Jack!). I did end up at the receiving end of one of his throw-away quips, namely "You sure you haven't got a storage box obsession, Tony?".

 

Been thinking about that ever since, and you know what? I think I might have developed a storage box obsession......

I enjoyed the week.

But for me, I felt it was suffering with an identity crisis. I am not too sure how much bigger the site is or isn't but it felt like a world cup stadium that was half full. But it seemed to have a great festival feel and ambience to it which was really pleasent. May be W&P should have had 'festival' on the end of it as opposed to 'revival'. I never got to catch up with many chums as the mv's were so far away.

I was impressed with the security team/company who were there. As a trader, they were just so helpful and couldn't do enough for you - they seemed to have a real professional edge about them. And I like that - makes you feel relaxed and in safe hands.

I did enjoy the week but that's because I have a positive mindset - and I had to put that to the test on way too many times. The loos and facilities is simply 100% outrageous. There actually is no excuse for it at all. None. If the UK is lucky enough to hold the worlds premier event like this then we, as a hobby, should be embarrassed. Do we really want to show the rest of the world how we do things here in the UK - or don't we?! Folks spend £000's on restoring peices of our history. There are so many clever and determined people out there looking after our history just to be faced with mess of the facilities - to me it shows lack of respect and contempt.

Some of those who were with me in the bar of Friday will remember it as the night of the '£4.40' - that's how much is was for ONE pint of Fosters. Folks, that's £32.50 a gallon. I am embarrased by that and furious. Embarrassed because I was stupid enough to pay it. The barman seemed really embarrased to take my money. I have never paid that for a pint, not even in London - this is Fosters we are talking about here, not a premium lager. Fosters is around £50 for a 72 pint barrel. I will never spend that again. Certain elements seriously need double checking if W&P want to be seen as the worlds premier event. Some lesson could be taken from the Great Dorset Steam Fair - over 600 acres and nailing it year on year.

All of the above really isn't hard to fix.

One of the highlights was the guy in the Kebab trailer :wow: and seeing Stefano everyday who invited me to Italy and then spent the week telling me how crazy Italians are........:help::sweat:

Have to say that riding in Ricks Cromwell was one of the highlights of this years show. And thank you Rick for asking me and thanks to the crew for making me feel welcome.

Expertly driven around the arena by John but the dust did kind of ruin my hair :mad: But what a very smooth tank to ride in and hats off to you for taking the challenge of it on and for saving a fantastic bit of our history.

Thanks for the effort on this thread Lee and looking forward to seeing you this week.

I also noticed your hands, as you get further into your training with the aircraft properly trimmed then you can fly 'hands off', for a while of course. Try to complete your course as soon as you can as if you have gaps in training you will sometimes have to learn certain aspects of it again. Money and bad weather is the cause...............

Bob he did say yesterday about trimming the aircraft - he look down here, here is the trim wheel. I said, Sir, I am not looking anywhere:shocked:

Well done Jack, I see you have the white knuckle grip of death! Try and relax as much as you can and enjoy it, it gets much easier.

Thanks Adrian, and you are quite right. The instructor said there you go, it's all yours. That actually did have my heart in my mouth and initially I was thinking I am not enjoying this. He told me to relax, just use a couple of fingers and that seemed to work as by the second flight I was so enjoying myself and could see the attraction and perhaps the addiction of flying.

Banking and making sure the nose is up is brilliant fun which I had to do quite rapidly as we were just about to fly over Guy Riches house - he gets upset when you do that apparently.

As Daniel said, it does make you think differently. And yes please, we would to take you up on your offer!

Well today I had my first flying lesson.

The most scary, terrifying and exhilarating thing I have ever done. Hats off to those who fly!

This was my first time and I have to say - how on earth did those guys who flew bombers in WWII cope with that. So much to think of and so much to do. The guys who had to deal with damaged aircraft and to make sure they got their crew home safely are men of a different world.

I cannot begin to explain the feeling of flying. Think I have at last found a new hobby

No 1, I aint an old fart, No, 2 I dont munch prawn butties. We take afternoon tea with cucumber sarnnies .

Dont get me wrong I love to see kids having fun, what parent does'nt. What Im talking about is kids charging about on something with an engine in and area where other people have thier pride and joy.

Its not all about just letting the kids go mad its about respect for other people.

As for camping in the furthest field, I'll camp where I like/can, ferrell kids won't drive me away but I suspect/hope they might be

100% agree with that. There really is no excuse for it.

Like many have mentioned - many accidents happen like this that aren't MV related so may be it's not the slow MV's that are an issue but just general motoring incidents.

I know many don't like the idea of upgrading old lighting systems of which I can understand. I admire those who trailer the smaller MV's to shows instead of driving them (as they do get some stick sometimes for doing so). But may be we need to make our vehicles as visible as we possibly can whilst driving on such roads. Once at a show it can all come off.

We know the problems - but we need to be thinking about the solutions.

I will polish my bald head then!

Test pilots really are something else

A good rule of thumb is your age plus 30....... Are you going for an EASA PPL, an NPPL or a LAPL?

That rule is going cost me even more then :computerrage:

I was looking at PPL Adrian but would be happy with a NPPL

Sadly not Rick - this is going to take a year or two. The instructor said that the average pass is around 60hrs of flying

Was speaking with Ian L not so long back (you know, pilot talk...yeah OK but I am on the case) and I an mention there were quite a number of HMVF members who have their pilots licence.
