  1. Any pics / vids of the panthers engine jack?

    Richard

    Hi Richard!

Sorry for the late reply - just finished moving house and office :computerrage:

We do and just awaiting the nod to use them in the public domain. Took some video of the engine firing up..........now that was pretty amazing. The Panther itself is pretty mindblowing - you can not believer the quality of it. They were telling me that in WWII each tank was pretty much hand finished. This was part of their downfall as you just couldn't interchange bits without a lot of work - unlike the Sherman.

We had an amazing time and Snapper has wriiten a peice for War History Online along with 26 images.

Couple of brilliant quotes/moments with Snapper - one of my favourites was whilst we were stood in a yard full of V1 parts and Tiger 1 and 2 tracks.....and the thing that caught Snappers eyes was parked right at the back - a Rover SD1!!!

Snapper says to Kevin - "so, whats that Rover SD1 about, or don't you want to talk about it"?

Kevin says, with a big smile "damn, I didn't expect anyone to notice that"

  2. At the end of the week - Snapper and I are off to the Wheatcrofts to witness the start up of the Panther engine :wow:

HOWEVER - last month, Joris flew over as we were invited to guys from After the Battle, Winston and Gail Ramsey - which was a mindblowing weekend. BUT, Joris booked the hotel and no word of a lie, this was my bed...........

Needless to say, I have booked the hotel this time, and Snapper, as we are sharing the room, whatever happens - I am getting the bed. OK?!

  3. Jack will be confirming details here shortly.

Thanks Lee and just awaiting clarification on that and will let you know. And I will email it out too. That will be after the weekend as Joris is flying over as we are lunching with the After the Battle guys

  4. I was then told that as I live in a Flood Area, they would not be able to quote - and I thought very much off-hand and disinterested in my request. In actual fact, I live on a steep hill, quite a long way up. If we flood here, the world is coming to an end.

I told the person that I did not live in a Flood Area, but towards the top of a hill. There is no flooding or history of it in this area. I was not believed - and that was the end of that.

    Tony

I agree with that Tony. Having been your home - I wouldn't imagine the last time that was flooded was during the Cretaceous Period.

  5. McAfee is good, one of the originals. in the business. We used to use it when I worked in Ford Motor Co's IT division.

Norton is as good - but an awful system resource hog. Install this and odds are your PC will get slow immediately afterwards - I wouldn't recommend it.

If you are looking for an alternative to McAfee - or in addition to - then I suggest taking a look at AVG's product. They used to do a free and a paid for version - not sure if they still do the free one or not but all the machines here at home have it and we've never had a virus go undetected. Have a look here - www.avg.com/gb-en/download

100% agree and have used it for ten years!

  6.

As for a Penthouse we have checked the magazine rack and there are only a few artillery shells and a some very dog eared magazines with articles on striping a Green Goddess

    Mike.

    Very very good Mike!!!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::computerrage::whistle:

  7. You could always transfer to helicopter training......wasn't it the Germans who demonstrated a helicopter in a building?

ISTR it was Hanna Reitch at the Berlin Motor Show.

    It was! What a pilot!

----------------------------> you weren't there, were you Degsy?!

  8. Funny you should mention that, I had been wondering what had been happening on the flying lessons. Update?

No prop time Degsy - not in this god forsaken weather  The airfield is 810' above sea level :wow:

  9. Just to be 100% clear: had I been sent something I would have included it.

    Thanks all. John C

There is nothing you can do about that John. If people have the time to complain/moan then they also have time to put it right.

You are doing a thankless job so well done you.

  10. i was down there on wednesday and the conqs were still there. i didnt ask but i reckon they would be available for less than scrap. something around 7k should do it. if anyone is interested send me a pm and i will pass on the details

Go on Rick! You know you want another project............... :coffee:

  11. Just has this sent to us via War History Online - looks a VERY interesting story!

An anonymous buyer recently bid NT$700,000 ($23,022) for a World War II-era tank being sold on a Taiwanese auction site, Taiwan media reported on Saturday.

Seller "tce788" is still deciding whether to accept the offer for the scrapped vehicle on auction site ruten.com.tw, which is described as immobile and incapable of firing artillery.

The seller also claimed that the aging US-made tank was passed down from the owner's grandfather and was taking up too much space.

An editor from the Taiwan-based magazine Illustrated Guide for Weapons & Tactics, identifies the tank as a M18 Hellcat, a fastest tracked, armored fighting vehicle used during World War II.

Production was discontinued in October, 1944.

The posted auction photo shows a very rusted tank fixed with a welded turret that appears to have been left untended for a long time.

"The army has regulations for disposing of decommissioned vehicles. The barrel and engine are dismantled while treads are removed and the steel armor destroyed," said Taiwan's military spokesman Luo Shou-he.

The Taiwanese military has acquired 243 armored vehicles since the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950.

Decommissioned M18s have long-been an object of desire for private collectors.

A Taiwanese businessman was reported to have purchased an M18 three years ago for NT$400,000.

Possession of old military vehicles stripped of their armaments does not violate local arms control regulations, according to a Taiwan law expert.

  12. It looks like the folks at the Jacques Littlefield Collection are starting to sort out which vehicles are going to be auctioned, and it has me thinking. How difficult and/or expensive is shipping a vehicle from the US?

Plenty of folks have done it Lauren and are doing it so no major problem really. The answer is to have a good freight forwarder - they will save you a lot of money and a lot of stress.
