It's bizarre what a small world it is, a good internet buddy from another forum, completey unconnected with MVs and a friend on Facebook is in this pic (as he was tagged in it on the aforementioned FB) would I be right in saying that's Mark under the engine?

 

It is pretty annoying seeing some of the Health and Safety restrictions put forward to the USO considering W&P have done nothing to curb the illegal use of quad/motorbikes ridden by youngsters in single figure age brackets, parties that go on into the early hours despite local authority Noise Abatement Notices etc.

That's a huge shame, I mentioned it before in another thread, but I thought it was a fantastic alternative to the other refreshment options, not to mention it was so much more in keeping with the whole W&P idea than Ginger's.

accurate armour do make some nice models.

But it takes some skill to make a stunning end result. They may be good kits but my ham fisted efforts would render them into something more suited to a Hiroshima diarama.:-D

Steve, By all means call Rex, but I'm not sure what you aim to achieve at this late point. I have no doubt that HSE have already been in touch with all the relevent parties and appropriate action is underway.

What would be more useful would be to find out what the process of events/decisions that lead up to the incident were and what action has/will been taken. Do the results of civil air incidents become public after decisions are made?

I dont agree with breaking the law and i used to run my Reo on Derv , as M G said the cost saving for the few miles that i did wasnt worth worrying about but i do have a big isue with alot of these threads and the debates that are had , it puts it all over the internet for ever , why not keep quiet ( my polite word ) and just get on with it , who knows what damage certain people do our hobby !!!!

Because those who do keep quiet are the ones fully aware that what they're doing is questionable, and are therefore the ones who will claim ignorance when 'pulled' when they know full well that they've been naughty boys.

What I don't understand is why you bring up your point. It would seem sensible that if you do want others to keep quiet about it, either P.M. people or keep schtum, rather than posting a reply that is for all intents and purposes as subtle as...

Generally HMRC can dip tanks wherever they please if they have reason to think an offence may have been committed (in fact HMRC have more powers including powers of entry than any other organisation - they can enter and search your home without warrant, something the Police cannot do), so I very much doubt whether you could stop them dipping tanks at an MV event. If the vehicle dipped has a road fund licence, irrespective of how it got to the show, it is illegal to have red in the tank. Even vehicle which are Ag registered can only use red when carrying out ag-related work, and attending a show isn't.

 

It doesn't matter that it wasn't driven there. If it is capable of being driven legally on the road, it cannot use red.

No. It has been stated previously and not just by myself that driving with red diesel (Gasoil) in your tanks is not an outright illegal activity.

A vehicle can quite legally fill up with red and then pay the outstanding duty AND vat at your local customs house. Admitedly not the most convenient of operations, but certainly, during the fuel crisis several years ago there were more than one driver that I know of, out of necessity who did just that. Understandably HMRC aren't too keen, I imagine it's a consideral faff because of the paperwork and it isn't something that's often requested.

A small point but I did qualify my statement by saying HMRC would have dificulty dipping AND taking action...but I agree and am well aware of HMRC's abilities;)

A problem would be if you if your Fv432 were on private land using red diesel for 90% for the year & you attend the W&P show at Beltring!Even though it private land,is’nt it classed during the show as public highway?

I'd be surprised if that were the case. I can't really see HMRC being able to dip tanks on private land and taking action, if you had on display the method by which you got the vehicle there such as a low loader, or otherwise proof of that. That and the fact there are numerous non registered vehicles that are driven around which would be tricky to allow if the land was registered as public highway.

You don't have to flush it, A mechanism exists for you to declare you are using red on the road, and pay the duty on it. Although red dyed, it has then become DERV and can stay in the system.

I concur and have first hand experience of doing so. (and mentioned it in a thread somewhere here before)

What also needs to be borne in mind is their construction. They use a fairit amount of resin parts and brass etched fittings. Resin will give better detailing and can be for want of a better word, 'carved' to create final shapes, but in my limited experience is a lot more tricky to work with as it's less forgiving than injection moulded plastic.

I concur...they're are really great looking kits. a freind of mine is an avid modler and would, if finances permitted get a heap of A.A. stuff. I've seen some of their display stuff at War & Peace on numerous occasions and have always stopped to look in awe.

A fair credit must go to their skills as no doubt my ham-fistedness would turn their kits into something resembling a landrover having been under attack from a selection of 500lb glue bombs and paint cannons.

This morning at about 07:45 (about .1 deg C):shake:, 2 open sided canvas topped Humvees driving to Bentwaters airbase for what I believe is a bit of filming for a Zombie flick. Nice to see on an otherwise regular commute.

I love the idea though that a delivery company could in theory buy a fleet of REO multifuel trucks, pay no road fund licence, theoretically pay no fuel costs (if there was enough mixed fuel being disposed of) and best of all, 'wizz' around London paying no LEZ charge whilst billowing out plumes of smoke.

With ref the scale props, I take it that for flying they cant offer the thrust needed due to the reduced diameter or is there another reason? what are they made of? are they purely for stationary use or are they able to withstand some rotation?

I'm sure there were a couple of hundred there, I'll guess at a 20' by 20' dance floor (I didn't use it myself:D) plus a small beer tent (open sided towards the dance floor) the USO stage, a mobile refreshments lorry (someone will fill in the correct details as my knowledge is not strong there) plus a plethora of bunting, lights and tables and chairs.

Oh and a really good atmosphere.

They would be shooting themselves in the foot if they do, I went to the USO 'do' and it was great. There is huge scope for a war time themed evening event at what is basically a war themed show. Not everyone wants to get mashed up at a generic beer tent with it's associated goings on. The beer tent music isn't to everyone's taste and I imagine most of the USO visitors are those who would prefer not to spend an evening standing trying to shout a conversation to your mates.

The beer tent will I'm sure still get it's regular attendees and good for them...there's probably thousands on site in the evening...and they wont all have the same ideas for a good night out.

If indeed beer tent numbers are down, then perhaps the organisers ought to think why that is and address what they are offering rather than take the choice away.

These are the boards copied and pasted as they are displayed with my vehicle - I dont at any point say its a snatch - but to be fair i also dont point out its a replica (mind you - how many hotchkiss owners do you know who seem to forget that they never had stars on their bonnets in the french army.....if you want to talk about fakes and misleading the public!)
