  1. I had similar thoughts on opening mine when I got in last night . One or two issues still to address but overall an impressive and promising start . Congratulations John and team and good luck .

  2. Thanks for your kind words Mike , as I said I was glad to be able to do something positive to help . It was a genuine pleasure to meet you and spend what was an all too brief visit with you - could have quite happily chatted for the rest of the day . You take care and I will do my best to seek you out if I manage to get to W&P next year .

  3. Good evening chaps and chapesses ,

My brother has managed to get our Dutch airportable up and running , all is sorted apart from registering the thing .

He has filled in the appropriate application and submitted it to DVLA along with the details , date of manufacture etc , provided by the Heritage Certificate he's obtained . DVLA has rejected the application on the grounds of insufficient proof of age . Having spoken to the LR owners club he's been told that it pretty much depends on who opens your letter and how they are feeling that day as to whether your paperwork gets approved or not , particularly as the vehicle is almost old enough to achieve tax exempt status .

Is there anything else he can try to improve the chances of a successful application or does he just put his tongue in his cheek and send the info in again as is and hope for the best ?

  4. I couldn't agree more, I have just read the latest issue (187) and can't believe the amount of errors, did anyone proof read it before publication?

Have to agree with you John . Having just started to read mine I couldn't believe how poorly written it is and it just confirmed my decision not to renew my subscription when it comes up . In the light of todays news I may reconsider .

  5. Yes , they still use Friday Woods , you might find it's changed a bit if you went now - there's a hard surfaced car park through Bounstead Road these days . Middlewick made the news a few weeks ago as it's been proposed it should be sold off for housing . They're probably getting sick of having to stop firing to tell the numpty locals that they can't stroll across the field while the exercises are taking place .

  6. I would quite like to put a fitted cover over my Jeep trailer - I'm not looking for a fitted trailer tonneau - it already has one on it but an actual cover - preferably weatherproof - which would go over the whole trailer to keep the crap off it whilst stored . Anybody come across such a beast or a supplier of same . Cheers !

  7. Our usual dog walk these days is down to the ranges gates - or a variation on that theme . I've been telling my wife about the place and what used to be there and where we boys used to explore a lifetime ago ! That's made me wonder if there are any photographs of the place in it's earlier days . There are still a couple of bits of concrete outside the gates where the Horsa blocks used to be but I've not got any pics of those and although I remember the barns that used to be inside the gates , before the 'new' control tower was built , I never photographed any of those either - not even sure I had a camera in those days ! Just wondering .

  8. I read a post on FB a couple of days ago extolling the virtues of the latest edition , I assume this means that it is now in the shops . It always used to be the case that subscribers could expect to get their copies before it went on general release - one of the 'perks' of subscribing . Maybe mine will turn up soonish and I'll get to see what is in it ! As others have said , the quality has declined noticeably since the last change of editor . I did wonder what to expect when one of the first editorials under the new man said (And I paraphrase here) Here I am sitting in France , don't know much about this subject but you all send me your copy and pictures and I'll shuffle them round a bit to make something magazine like .

Having taken CMV since it was first published when my current sub runs out that will be it . A shame as it used to be a good interesting little mag if you didn't want the in depth detail of Wheels & Tracks and the like .

  9. This may be wasting your time but I regularly see a company trading as Chelsea Frictions at the Beaulieu autojumble . They do advertise in some of the magazines but I can't lay my hand on one to find a contact number for them at the moment . They have stocks of shoes for all sorts of stuff going back into the mists of time , it's possible they might be able to help you

  10. Two more ST's just come up for sale . A very nicely presented one on Milweb and a second one on E Bay in the other vehicles section . Had a lot of work done including conversion to diesel with a Golf engine . From the photo's the ebay one is definitely a civilian one , the milweb one I can't say for certain . Could be genuine ex services , could just have had an appropriate paint job .

  11. On our way home on Saturday evening met an OT90 coming the other way through the Tollgate area of Colchester . Didn't get a very good look at it as it was nearly dark . Possibly not the best time to be rolling through the town but maybe they'd had probs and had no choice .

  12. By the way Mart - I finally collected my rad from Colchester Radiators today , having had a slightly snotty phone call from them last week because I'd not collected it previously (mostly because they didn't let me know that it was done ). It looks very good but the final bill was £334 .

  13. Two Snow Tracs for sale on E Bay at the moment - listed under other vehicles , one is definitely an ex military vehicle - you can see the lifting points on either side of the bonnet in the photo's . It also has a Land Rover hard top sitting on it - think that might let a bit of fresh air in ! . Its listed at 1250 but it now or offer & the seller is Mactrax sales. The second civilian one is up for 2750 , same seller .
