  1. For those MV owners who might not have heard there has been a‘parting of ways’ in the admin of this event. This info is freely posted on the event Facebook page.

    https://www.facebook.com/Project70

As a participant, I understand that all contact data for participants may not have yet reached the new admin team.

It may be that MV owners from on here may have paid money to the ‘original’ event, (The General Agency Co. Ltd.) but the ‘new’ admin are not aware of this. The new team have issued emails to all those they know.

If you have not heard from the new team I would recommend contact at project70hq@aol.com with utmost urgency. I.e. today.

I understand the current admin team also wish to make it very clear there is now no connection between them and Martin Wright and the General Agency Co.Ltd.

I’m told a small number of participants have withdrawn due to this situation, so it is the case that there are places for men and vehicles on the tour, however there is no suggestion of the tour being cancelled and the Royal Dutch Army are still backing it 100% and it is back on course forfulfilling the original concept. If you have not indicated interest but think this British centred event may be for you then you need to contact the team at project70hq@aol.com this week.

    New website for the event

including confirmation statement from the Dutch Army.

  2. Latest I heard down the grapevine (yesterday) was 11 tanks and well over a hundred other vehicles, all runners and moving in convoy. The promised 15 minute event opening barrage by 5.5's and 25 pounders is going to be a one-off worth watching on its own. Yes the Mod Edit and confusion caused by the behaviour of a certain individual has caused a lot of unpleasantness and uncertainty, but I reckon it is time to pull together, rather than bail out, and pay the respects this event is all about.

  3. This front axle turned up in the backfill at the bottom of a WW2 vehicle inspection pit at an archaeological 'dig' at a site I know. The marker pole has half meter colour sections on it, so it is going to be off something small. On the lines of a small staff car or Tilly, but I don't know enough parts to identify it at all. There is no reason to believe it is from anything other than a WW2 military use vehicle. But of course impressed civvy ones are quite possible. It would be good to be able to put a correct label on it for the 'finds' record! :-)

  4. That page seems to specifically indicate those units actually engaged in the landings on 6th June 1944.

XXX Corps, according to the sometimes unreliable Bouchery book, had 73rd AT Regt and 27th LAA Regt, Royal Artillery as part of the Corps HQ. They also has 5th Army Group Royal Artillery which contained medium and heavy regiments. But they wore the 2nd Army badge instead of the XXX Corps' boar.

Right, but he did say - 'I'm basing it on the 37 pattern bd uniform and aiming for a look the would represent the D Day unit or units.' Hence my thinking about that particular reference.

  5. Are you aware that a revised Ferry Schedule is now circulating that offers a Friday sailing option? For some, this will be useful as it means one less day off work. There are still the same two return days of the Sunday and Monday night sailings. Looking at what I have seen of the proposed schedule of events, the Monday sailing seems a better option if time is not an issue. Going by what will be taking place on the Sunday.

  6. Sorry, should have added the tins are about 8 inches square on the face with the label on. Quite a bit smaller than standard fuel cans. But quite willing to accept they are for smaller amounts of liquid. Two different styles of stopper, neither of which is the easiest thing to unfasten :-) Thanks very much for the input so far.

  7. Came across these containers of obvious military origin. No obvious residue to give a clue. Possible point of interest is that no two tins have exactly the same contract details on them. All similar, but not the same. Any ideas? Over to you.

  8. I have a 1918 .303 Vickers Medium Machine Gun that I may sell and to this end I contacted an auction house. This is based in the North East and I spoke to a chap who deals in the military side of antiques. He asked was it 303 (it could be .50 but unlikely) and was the magazine on the top, I of course put him right. We then got to the value of it complete with tripod and 50+ inert rounds he paused while he looked it up probably on one of those new fangled computers and came out with a value of £300, three hundred pounds! Despite giving him my reasonable views on value he was having none of it. It is a loss to me why reputable dealers/auctioneers employ people who obviously have no idea what they are talking about.

Have none of it Bob, I'll give you £350 for it no quibble :-) And your bus fare home.

  9. Two Land Rover ambulances on the back of a civvy low loader heading North on the M1. One in Gulf?Ghan? colours the other more trad green stuff. Couldn't get a clear view due to box vans in the way. Looked like ex-sales items. Anyone on here bought them?

  10. Although I agree with the principal of flushing an engine out, I'd be hesitant to flush an engine that is running fine so close to a major event. It is not impossible that removing a few decades of crud will open up a few leaks that otherwise had been holding well. In an extreme case, thinking about one I know of, even cause a drop in oil pressure due to opened up 'tolerances'. Straight SAE30, low detergent such as the stuff Morris Lubricants supply is what you need.
