Welcome to the forum, you will probably get a better pick up on help regarding your project if you re-post the info in the Motorcycle section.

Going to stick my neck out here Nick, but I know of an M20 that arrived from Ruddington in the back of an (unknown) army vehicle. The owner, who still has it, did not know he was also buying a bike so there is some (only some) truth in the myth.

Thanks Ron, I thought you would chime in at some point. Great.

I acknowledge your far greater knowledge of such things Richard. I do think though that it is more likely that they are just a re-sale site. I am guessing that some of the vehicles possibly have RN on the side? What are your thoughts?

Ah yes, I see what you mean. I thought the cover behind the cab looked a bit big, but this doesn't seem to match up with the fire tenders either 🙂

Thanks Richard.

Sorry for the late addition but I saw this on Facebook tonight (21st)
" The amazing column of military vehicles is now camped on the island near Oosterhout until sunday when they will begin to disperse back to their countries of origin.
If you wish to attend the camp please do you are very welcome and their is no charge to do so. " -
I recall, in the early 1970's going to Ruddington and seeing a number of green Travellers up for sale, the notable detail being that they all had a steel cupola over the passenger seat. I've often wondered where they all ended up as I've never seen one since.

I appreciate this is very much a long shot, but can anyone on here suggest the origin of these markings I have uncovered on a wartime jerrycan? It is just personal curiosity, no particular other reason. The top line maybe shows (Fo)rdson, the central larger letters appear to be either REGS or RFGS, there are some serial numbers in much smaller letters, then lastly the lower lines have a top indestinct line maybe followed by ....rican

I think you have had all the areas covered so I've nothing to add except to re-affirm what Citroman said about the rubbing with bar soap, it works on cast ally as well but be careful not to overheat it - just to the point of 'blacking'. Then steady pressure with shaped blocks and clamps. Re-heat as often as required but don't forget to resoap it.
