  1. The one that really wound me up was the alleged phone call from Microsoft..

You pick up the phone and a voice with an Indian accent you could cut with a knife says "Hello my name is < something like Micheal or John> and I am calling from Microsoft technical support department. We have detected a virus on your PC and need to connect to your PC to fix it for you"

Having had 3 or 4 in one day I got well and truly steamed so rather than just hanging up mid-way through "microsoft" I let the idiot the other end continue. No mention of a a charge was mad at this point so I assumed the intent was to upload a chink of mal-ware to the PC so they could use it to spam other users of the net.

So I asked if he really were from Microsoft - he said yes

I asked if here were based in Seattle or London - he said Seattle

I asked what the virus was and he read out a nice script about something that captures passwords - no doubt exactly what they planned on uploading

So I closed with "Thanks for the time taken to answer my questions - you've set my mind at rest. Whilst you were blathering away I had an IP trace running - didn't you know that when you dial a VOIP phone you might hide the number but you can't hide the IP address from the router logs? I now know you are calling from India - I know who the address is registered to and I've just emailed this to the local police anti-fraud unit and the Indian Embassy here in London. Have a nice day when your police come knocking."

Never had a call like that since :-)

Mother in law had that one, the bloke was very insisteny that she had one and that she needed to allow him access to sort it out. Even though she insisted she had no problems which she could definitely guarantee as she has no PC.

Get stuff like this at work all the time, ever since my email got atted to a clients intranet site.

I now get new friends on Facebook - which is amazing as I am not on there.

I have more parcels being delivered than Santa at Christmas.

Have booked more hotel rooms and flights that I can physically take.

Also get ones saying somebody has sent me a fax/image from a mobile phone.

I use my favourite DELETE key, might need a new on soon

  2. I am looking for a heat seeking missile to take santa out of the sky forever  If I get lucky I might even get Rudolph and the rest of the reindeer crew.

Too late you have been beaten to it

    They are very tasty.

  3. Its a Land Rover check the earths

The dash lights are on the same circuit as the side lights from the 6 way (red wire).

If your side lights work it is either the dash switch, bulbs or earth.

I believe the power for the water and oil guages have the same supply as the fuel gauge, (bottom fuse?)

    Does your fuel gauge work?

The Water and oil gauges earth through the sender on the engine (you are electric and not vacuum?)

Assuming you are electric it maybe worth checking the earth from the engine. My earth was loose but this meant the gauges read high.

  4. Might be worth a timing check. A few degrees on my two Dodges has given me an extra couple of miles, and on their fuel consumption, that's significant! :-D

I did my last check about 2 years ago since then it has had a few issues.

Which meant it has had a casb rebuild, plugs and a few other adjustments, so is possibly a bit better.

    Mike

  5. Has anyone any ideas what mpg one of these engines should do? The one in my lightweight appears to be returning about 12 mpg.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Depends on how you drive ir.

I get about 15 out of my 109 on a run, last time I checked.

Have not bothered checking since, but then do not do many miles anyway.

  6. Hanging is to good for this kind of SCUM........

Oh I don't know.......I'd hang 'em by a very tender part of their anatomy with a very thin rope.>:(

Sorry but I tend to agree with Ray here. Why waste good rope or cheese wire?

very sad how low lifes patrol the streets these days. bring back national service and see how brave they really are ! :-|

Kind of agree with this and have never served. I am assuming 5 years in ATC does not count.

However I was brought up and taught the following.

    1. Respect is something you earn.

    2. If you want something you work to either earn it or get the money to buy it.

    3. If you cannot afford it wait until you can.

    4. Treat others how you expect to be treated.

    5. People have opinions, you might not agree with them, bu

    6. If t youn are probably both wrong.

    7. If you take something you should give something back.

    8. If you do something you should not do not expect to avoid the consequences.

We live in a free world/country, however I seem to feel it has become to free.

Stealing is disrespectful, especially from charities.

I also believe that soldiers (broad term) do not cause wars they strive to end or prevent them. They even make the ultimate sacrifice for it. Which is why we are where we are to day.

The good part that is where we can freely express our feeling, belifs etc.

  7. Very nice.

Would not worry about the description.

It has a armour, tracks, a big rotating gun. That makes it a tanks to the vast majority of the world.

You've worked hard for you cash so you are entitled to enjoy it and call it what you like.

Heck I have people call my Land Rover a Jeep, now that is something to complain about:-D

  8. are you seriously saying that a 22 year old insuring a bmw m3 should pay the same as a 51 year old?,its all about risk , which one do you think is a greater risk?

Depends on the driver. I have seen some aweful drivers , of the older generation, who should know better.

once again its about insurable risk ,gathered from claim statistics i am sure you are a great driver:cool2:

What you mean the ones that they make up or are over inflated by the insurance companies paying people to persuade you to make claims for injuries you did not receive. I have at least one a week these days. All because I stopped for a suicidal cyclist on a roundabout and the car behind did not quite. According to them slight discomfort counts even if you do not remember having it.

Maybe I am doing something wrong they even record the call and there seems to be no putting them off.

Phrase like "the only pain I had was earache and a twinge in the neck from answering the phone to people wanting me to commit fraud" just seem to go straight passed them.

Always have found the pricing a bit wierd with no logic. Worked with a bloke whose insurance doubled upon telling them his revised address. He had not moved the post office gave them a new postcode.

Brother ended up paying double to insure a 1.3 Escort van after he lost his job and had to sell his Firebird. Yes that is probably statistics they have had loads of claims for Escort vans but no on a Firebird.

Why does my renewal come back at £400 but if I go online for a quote, with exactly the same details, it is £110 cheaper, when you phone and query miraculously they can do it cheaper. It must be some sort of loyalty reward:D

Did the sex discrimination thing get resolved or do women get cheaper insurance still.

    Mike

  9. Depends on your idea of ugly to some point.

Finding something that looks more in keeping could be interesting.

Have you tried a search for motorcycle indicators?

Found these rather quick and good look better in green.

    http://www.pureperformancecycles.com/Products/Electrical/Turn-Indicators/Paaschburg---Wunderlich-Micro-Bullet-Indicators-%283

With normal electrics and a proper bulb should convert to whatever voltage.

Only ever had a problem with fitting 12v bulbs in 6v bike indicators.

  10. I was initially thinking of streetview.

Not so much as getting the image you want. After all it might be a different angle and there are probably copyright issues.

But it could help identify the location, if a picture is even possible. After all thet nice building might now be a hypermarket aisle 4 to be precise.

If you know the location, street, building it is possibly easier to trace a picture or get one taken.

Advance warning is always good of course.

  11. A mech lock fitted to the brake line should be pretty effective (albeit technically illegal now). I have used this system on Series 1 Landrovers and various other vehicles over the years. It won't completely stop them, but it will slow them down a lot especially if they can't see it.

    http://www.mudstuff.co.uk/Meck_Lock.shtml

Pretty expensive could do it much cheaper with a simple line lock

Of course a removable handle would help.

Probably not legal for road use.

There is also another Land Rover favourite The Clutch Claw

    http://www.centinel.org.uk/clutch_claw.asp

And not forgetting everyones favourite The Wheel Clamp

Probably loads of these going cheap now that it is illegal to clamp anything unless you are a government agency.

Of course I believe you can legally clamp your own car, but would not be surprised if that is now also illegal.

  12. thinking of maybe setting up a driving school for lessons/rides in her to help with the up keep etc, it will live on a 150 acre farm but its all grassland for cows, so wont be allowed to chew up the land, but maybe drive around the edges of the fields etc.

Convert to sheep and repaint the OT black and white all call it Shep. That is one problem solved:D.

Nice toy by the way enjoy.

  13. While there is no doubt that is a Land Rover roll bar, is it a coil sprung 90 /110 style rather than a series type?

I'm not much of nit picking rivet counter (even though I have been accused of such detail atomic hair splitting) but i'm just a bit curious as I had been led to understand the series roll bars were quite different.

    Robin

    Robin

That is a good question, it is a type I have seen in a Series before and the previous person removed it from a Series 3 an early FFR as a guess. This would explain the holes cut in the bulkhead plate as these would appear to match the generator/shunt cables for the rear mounted type.

I do know however that the fitting is basically the same. May just need to make some larger holes through the tub capping as they fit in the rear behind the bulkhead. The front tilt hoop remains in place.

I do know the later type roll bars had a diagonal brace and others were double hoops that replaced the front tilt hoop.

The main reason for it is a bit of protection if it should ever end up in a wheels up position.

  14. Blimey a long time no updates.

What the heck has been going on you ask.

Yes the truck had to go away to a new home in the middle of May.

Luckily it was only temporary and it is now back.

    Why did it go way?

Well I live on a hill with steps up to the front door.

These were kind of falling down so they needed a rebuild, so the builders had to come in.

With the fantastic summer  we have had it took a bit longer than expected. But I do now have a nice set of steps that do not need mountain climbing gear to get up and more importantly there is no wall right against the drive and the truck.

There is however a gaping hole in the bank balance.

Reduced by doing the filling of lawn and garden reinstatement myself.

So what have I been up to between rain storms.

Well the replacement drivers wing is almost totally stripped back. The current one has a nasty split around the TUAAM mount.

    P1010885.jpg

I have also managed to acquire a roli bar. Some Health and Safety can be good. Just need to strip clean paint and fit.

Of course those other things have got in the way like decorating the house, gardening and work have all got in the way.

Oh yes it is Autumn now need to go get some firewood in, at least I can use the Land Rover for this :D:D

  15. is the 13th one a sea fury maybe? (miss powder puff)

Not too convinced about the one on the gate with the servicemen though.......what about a zero cow?

Yupp we have done it that makes 14 (counting the one on the gate.) or is it a red herring.

There is a zero in the cow,

Miss powder puff is definitely a Typhoon.

    Mike

  16. Now I much prefer that to this open cockpit one!

Apparently it has a Rover V8 so is really just a Land Rover.

Mind you it was originally meant to house a Merlin.

So would have had double advantages.

Faster and more economical than a normal series Land Rover:-D

    Mike

  17. 12 for sure and a pos 13.

    Is this aimed at kids?

    Not sure. Depends on age.

Jack seems to be stuck on 5o possibly not:D

Mind you I have got 12

Agree with some of the others.

Boston, Ki61 Katy and P51 Mustang in tree

I believe it is an inverted FW200 Condor on the parapet (wings would be sagging if a B24)

    Corsair on signal gantry

    Spitfire on carriage

Either a FW190 or Zero on gate in front of children

    B28 Superfortress on the trolley

Dog drinking a Sunderland flying boat.

A cyclist with a Hurricane in between his legs. (that is a tricky one)

Dornier DO17 in the tree behind him

Something on the gate with the service man leaning against it, possibly a Havard/Texan

The last one seems to be elusive.

    Mike

PS: We were supposed to ID them as well, weren't we:???
