  1. A quick update on this...not much use of the old girl over the winter due to a few (ahem) ignition problems and a lack of time, but I have been poking around with the brakes while I have had the decks off. The LR cylinder remains very firm and responsive with no problems at all.

    Cheers all...

Extremely happy with that seen as I have bought most of the kit to redo the cylinders on my spare and ordered the oil. The assembly looks grubby but its all free and moving but leaking in places it shouldn't.

  2. Well I have been lying idle for months now drinking myself to death with Vodka and I don't half miss the Cromwell. After all; me and her had a special relationship for near on 2 years.

I need another restoration job in summer to drag me out of the mire.

Pete that stuff is absolute rot gut why don't you offer your services in the for sale and wanted section on HMVF.

  3. Stall holders set up the previous day if they can so it gives them all the chance to have a wander around and adjust prices to how they see fit. Remember though its not a supermarket you can haggle and I do.

As for spares not much for me I only saw one or two things that were Ferret related and as I already had them I didn't buy. In the case of CVRT's in that case I came with the one thing that I wanted the tiller box master cylinder thing ma jig. :-D

  4. Nice to see the Extravaganza date is now fixed for first weekend in August, will certainly be there with as much as I can bring ! Last year was excellent.

You need to get it advertised on here I am sure there are plenty of other owners who would love the opportunity to take their vehicles around the 17 acre play ground !

This seems to work better https://www.facebook.com/HeywoodTanks?fref=ts

    Yes advertise it

    Welcome in

  5. Did anybody see the lunchtime news on BBC1 today - should also be on the iPlayer in due course./

There was a bit about how the recent storms had swept away part of the beach at Tywyn to reveal the stumps of a prehistoric forest. Also revealed had been the impressions left in the sand/mud/silt by tank tracks from the last war - they looked like Sherman tracks - did they do any DD training at Tywyn?

Its just been on the evening news and a veteran says it was made by a buffalo

    Amazing all the same

  6. I went up, bid on 4 lots, but didn't even get an email saying I didn't win. I was getting concerned I would get notified after I flew out, but if you have results it must be done then.

They don't bother to email you if you don't win your just left hanging as it were. I bid on three lots but my bids were pretty low as I didn't think some of the things were worth any more than I bid. I would like to know how much someone was prepared to pay for the damaged hollebones I thought £65 was enough how wrong I was lol.

  7. OK that's settled then! Beacon it is!

Just out of interest, anyone know who owned the Chally one at W&P last year? Marked up KFOR 32?

I found a good picture of it, complete with winky pot light plugged into the roof socket.

Terry Brooks is the custodian not sure if he is the owner though.

  8. Hi Andy

Erm.....well, sort of.....err no actually! Lovely recon engine fitted and it has been run up once or twice but Im afraid to say my attention has been focused elsewhere over the last couple of years, most notably getting the Spartan painted, changing the engine in the Sabre, acquiring a Saladin....oh, and working to pay for all this flipping stuff. So for the moment she remains languishing in the back of the shed. I have however just disposed of one of my bigger projects so I am getting closer..!

    Cheers

    Tim

I know how it is I have a similar problem :-D

  9. Dear Simon,

I have found Castrol straight 30 weight oil readily available this side of the pond.

I think the best way to find some of the harder to find materials you may need through the industrial / heavy duty parts suppliers not the main street type retailers.

You do actually make a point that I missed the first time I read it, the EP designation is of a style used by the British military and not one normally recognised in civvy street as astutely pointed out. There is a listing here somewhere of equivalents in civilian terms.

I will look up the other oils you asked about and get back to you, apologies for the delays.

    Robin

Would the oil designations not be to a Nato standard?

  10. Who is making the trip to Stoneleigh this year from all accounts even more traders than before

are attending so hopefully more like the Stoneleighs of old

    Commander

Me I'm going this time. I would like Stoneleigh to be how it was in the past but I can't see that happening.
