  1. The bottom line is the packing and carriage charges for each item must be stated so always check and if any doubt ask.

Most sellers are fair but a few put a big markup to offset a low selling price and fees.

As to combined shipping unless the seller has a listed policy always ask before bidding / clicking buy-it-now.

Incidentally since April if the smallest dimension of a packet or box is 8cm or more the minimum Royal Mail price is over £5 :wow:

Hence Hermes or Collect+ are cheaper although neither have a great reputation ...

  2. Both can be useful -

Facebook for keeping in touch with family and friends, seeing photo's uploaded of significant events etc.

Twitter when used by bus controller to advise if a service delayed or cancelled.

However I certainly don't want a minute by minute account of anyone else life, which is what most peoples pages seems to be clogged up with.

  3. Where I used to work we used one of the the black toughened Loctite adhesives ( I can't recall which number ) to re-attach the rubber / synthetic rubber part of anti-vibration mounts to the metal of the mount when the original bonding failed. Failures were normally as a result of dropping or bad / rough handling e.g unit packed in a box on it's side so sheer stresses.

We never had a repaired one fail again.

It was also very useful for various 'foreigner' repairs that normal superglue couldn't handle.

How long lasting it would be on a rotating assembly with constant sheer stress and vibration is a question I can not answer.

If you do go for this wear disposable gloves as if you get in on your hands, or indeed any skin, it will be there for days.

  4. I used to use AVG several years ago, and hence can't comment on current version, but it became both a big download and slowed systems down.

I swapped to Avast and have had no real issues either with the installation or failure to trap viruses.

It works fine together with Comodo firewall too.

  5. Flipping heck Mike - that looked fantastic!!! I am not too sure where this event came from as it seems to have just happend over night but it is certainly one for the calender.

Said on the radio today that it brought in over 25 million to the local economy - that's a cracking result.

And thanks for sharing the images!

    Jack

    Where you been?

Its a 4 day event that has run annually since 2008.

I can well believe it brought that much in, Saturday was absolutely heaving between the 2 piers.

    Mike

Have been here but what I mean is that it just started as a weekend bash and then within a matter of years it has become massive. :-D

Indeed since 2008 it has become a massive show, I just happened to be in Bournemouth on the Sunday either 2008 or 2009 not knowing in advance about the show. If Shoreham show was not already happening to piggy-back the displays onto I doubt this show would have started.

While the show brings in big money to the local economy unlike say Southport show there is no entry fee which of course brings the crowds but I do wonder how the displays are funded.

  6. 1 definite and may be 2 more spitfires flew over our garden just now.

We are cutting a tree down and our garden is on the flight path of the Bournemouth and Shoreham air shows!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There were only two Spitfires at Bournemouth yesterday - 1 with BBMF Hurricane & Lancaster and one with ME109 and P-51 so maybe it was the latter trio passing over.

  7. Firstly it will be dependant on the river flow & will be checked by our local member who works on the River & by the people operating the safety boat. So best to check at the show with a marshal to see if going ahead.

The time will be around 5.30 on the Saturday once a fishing competition has finished.

The address is Hampton Ferry, Boat Lane WR11 4BP. Its a narrow lane with a large grass car park at the end next to the river. If you prefer to watch/take pics as they enter the water you could take the chain ferry across to the other side.

Its only a few vehicles to include:

    Alvis Stalwarts x2

    DUKW

    Ford GPA 'Seep'

    Gaz 46

    cheers Paul

    Paul,

    Thanks for posting the details.

  8. Ambitious Amphibians - This year we are hoping to attract more amphibious vehicles as its not often that these vehicles can go and have a play in the water, as we are fortunate to have access to a slipway into the River Avon in Evesham town centre just 1.5 miles away. We have set aside a few quid to make a contribution towards fuel costs for these vehicles and we are also providing a Rescue boat.

The plan is to leave for river at 5pm for a swim then back in time for the evenings entertainment.

Is this still expected to take place soon after 5pm?

If so how many vehicles are expected, whereabouts on the river is the slipway and where is the best car parking nearby for spectators?

  9. hello there, I have recently found a VHS that I have for some time. On it is a sales blurb, about 10 minutes long about Fox. It shows it firing, driving around the gun being removed and the engine and transmission being taken out. The vehicles shown are 00SP86, 47MS22, 08FD74 and 09FD90. I am at present wrestling to get it transferred to disk but am having problems with picture quality and sound. But I will persevere. The film was produced by United Motion Pictures and is in colour. Anyone seen this before? PS it also shows quite a bit of the vehicle swimming.

If you are still struggling I have both a Philips(badged JVC) and a Panasonic SVHS VCR both with TimeBaseCorrection hooked up to my DVD recorder plus an older Panasonic HS-950 I can try too.

  10. Gmail is the one that causes us the most problems, over 90% of the spammers that try to join the forum use Gmail, very few spammers use hotmail accounts..

Interesting as most of my email problems are when the other party has a Hotmail address ........ but I guess because we are looking from different viewpoints.

I know several people who have had their Hotmail hacked into but do not know of a hacked Gmail account.

If I send an important email and particularly if with an attachment to a Hotmail account whenever possible I either phone or send a text to say I have sent a message plus if I expect a response but don't get it again I let the account holder know this.

I guess the spammers too have found Hotmail messages get blocked while Gmail ones get through.

Yahoo used to be good as messages arrived even if routed into the spam folder but more recently occasionally emails have not been received.

  11.

I read somewhere that an HST train per passenger kilometre gives out more pollution than driving in a car. But most of these are over 40 years old? and spend loads of time sitting at stations at idle.

Virtually all HST power cards have now been re-engined with much more modern designs. Also control systems allow fuel to one bank of cylinders to be cut off on idle. I can't comment on the current emissions but presumably lower than the origional engines from the 1970's.

  12. Found this picture today, taken at Kemble Airfield 2007. Anyone recognise it?

From the logos and the caravan in the background certainly owned (at the time) by one of the Walters Family from Avon Dassett.

Can you read the registration number on your original photo?

This could be it photographed this year, by the date location is Bloxham show.

  13. May I suggest a simple and safe ( to the mobile) solution for 6v vehicle owners. Carry a well charged 12v battery in a wooden box with a cigarette lighter socket mounted in it. Even a week at Beltring I doubt the battery would drop in voltage that much after charging the phone a few times.

Indeed if just charging a phone etc the draw from the battery would be little more than the self discharge.

If a 12V - 240V inverter was used to power camera chargers etc that are not readily available as 12V the power draw would be more as the current draw by the inverter with no output load could be upto 1A. Running say a laptop the draw from 12V could be 8A.

However adding even a small solar charger panel say 10W should keep the battery topped up for intermittent phone, camera etc charging and an hour a day of laptop use.

  14. if its a newish phone that can be charged direct froma USB port, it may be that the charge voltage is 5+ volts anyway. Maybe just snip the USB connector off the lead, or have a USB port in the truck and drop the voltage a bit with a resistor....or is that looking at it too simply?

    Mick

    BE CAREFUL

USB is assumed to be 5V +/- a small tolerance maybe 0.25V.

If you push 7V in expect your device to fry and I would be wary of just regulating in case of any spikes or forgetting to disconnect when starting causing damage.

What is needed is a proper DC/DC converter that can take say 5V - 8V input range and output 12V. A 20/25 Watt module should not be that expensive but then you will have to box it and add probably add a couple of capacitors.

Less efficient, but not an issue in a vehicle, is a 5V input to 12V output DC/DC converter with a high power i.e. around 6Amp low-dropout regulator in front.

  15. Well done to all involved on a successful run despite negligible shakedown.

As shown right through this thread you always do the best you can and not cut corners which was rewarded by no significant problems.

Could you rig up an external starter motor?

  16. We use 2.5" Western Digital ones at work for weekly backup rotating every 4 weeks.

2.5" run off USB so don't need mains power. The only problem can be some laptop USB ports are power limited.

As others have said be sure to have at least two copies of important files. While it takes time always sensible to make data DVD's of photographs etc. as they can't be erased.

Statistically unlikely but if your computer throws a major wobbly while the external drive is attached both drives could get corrupted.
