A dozen isn't going to be much help on the battlefield, but it is a game changer in terms of optics and commitment, a major western military sending modern MBT.  Hopefully there will be more to come.  US is (finally) coming up with some Bradleys.  Like the UK and the Challenger 2, 50 is just a token compared to what is needed.  Unlike the UK the US could easily send thousands of Bradleys (and Abrams for that matter) without really drawing down forces all that much.

Seems like the yanks are going back to being late for every war, sorry about that.

The balance between the numbers that the UK and USA at least initially send and Putin not upping his game by several gears ?? At one extreme, admittedly unlikely, Putin may think again about what he is doing. At the other more can be drip fed in potentially without the same psychological effect as one large batch.

Sorry for not scanning the plans for you yet, there have been some computer and operator problems.

Airfix and Scalextric have announced their 2023 ranges and both include Series 1 Land Rovers!

Airfix have a 107" pick up in 1:43 scale and they have re-issued the Bloodhound Missile which comes with a Series 2 or 2A SWB.

Scalextric have announced an 80" Land Rover.

    Also, Airfix are releasing a 1/35 Ferret Mk2 and a 30-cwt truck.

If you are wanting to build in 1/35 scale, Italeri do a 1/35 Series 3 LWB soft top that could be butchered to make the chassis , seat box, cab floor and axles.

Scans of the plans to follow soon.  Fingers crossed.

    Dan

While the Land Rover is a starter pack it is £15 - hardly pocket money .... or am I just out of touch ? I don't recall saving even 2 weeks for an Airfix kit, glue, pot of Humbrol paint.

OT but I often look back and wonder how if I had children the family and I could fund current versions of the Triang / Hornby / Wrenn items I still have packed away. The Hymek loco still has the price ticket with 75/- on the box. I may be wrong but I think Christmas 1970.

Definitely worth a go, it was about £20 for 2 bags, my thinking is when one is full swap for the dry bag while the wet one dries out on the radiator

I'm guessing you mean a house radiator not a vehicle.

As the bag 'dries' the evaporated moisture will go into the air - like drying towels on bathroom radiator or heated rail with door closed then condensation on windows.

  4. I'm sorry you have caught Covid. My experience and that of others I know has been that feeling very tired gradually subsides over 2 - 3 weeks..

With modern petrol I'm surprised you leave more than a minimal amount in over the winter. Then come spring top up so the proportion of old petrol is low.

  5. First a big well done to get fundamentally complete and a successful first drive.

Second unfortunate to have the driveline failure. At least you managed to get back home. While if your diagnosis is correct disassembly sounds awkward and messy hopefully the actual repair is not too difficult or expensive.

If you have not already seen, Wartime in the Vale 2021 being held at Ashdown camp, Evesham

is to host a gathering of Diamond T's (all sizes)  to mark 80 years

Application forms available on the hosts website in January 2021.

Following on from the event held at the Yorkshire Wartime Experience in 2016, which was

a credit to the organising team of YWE.  Next years event will follow the same theme of a relaxed weekend

with plenty of opportunity for meeting owners and enthusiasts alike to talk all things T

More information will be posted as and when available

    Cheers

    MACCDT

Given 2021 did not happen provisionally this was to be 2022 instead.

However given Wartime in the Vale 2022 is next weekend and I have not seen anything posted on HMVF and, at least to me, the Wartime in the Vale website does not look to have been updated recently is the Diamond T gathering happening ? ( I presume the show is on in general ).

Costs of course are an issue both for exhibitors and potentially visitors.

Looking at the photo again it has a high level seat and what looks like a footboard, was it horse drawn at some stage?

Possible but given the size & potential loaded weight how many horses would be required ?

Wasn't the quarry Dinorwic and the power station Dinorwig?

From Wikipedia, not always the most reliable source of information, yes

However perhaps just down to timing given

    Quote

The name Porthmadog derives from its English spelling, Portmadoc, the official name until 1974.

and construction of Dinorwig Power Station began in 1974 with the opening date 1984.

Series or parallel - always best to have a matched pair , purchased at same time , same brand, same capacity, batch - otherwise they will be fighting against each other in a effort to equalize.  Infrequent use - a discarnect is always best.

Indeed but as radiomike7 says above connecting batteries in parallel is best avoided.

If to power two different systems these should be isolated and a suitable split charge module fitted.

  11. Before you dismiss J60 24V ignition if otherwise the best option for a boat as sealed so waterproof consider providing a 24V supply from 12V.

I have absolutely no idea what the current draw of ignition is but I presume there are very brief high current spikes.

Just as a starting point something like this

    https://www.meanwell-web.com/en-gb/dc-dc-enclosed-converter-input-9-5-18vdc-output-sd--100a--24

followed by a large capacitor connected through a diode so the capacitor can not backfeed the DC/DC converter and a low value series resistor to limit the surge.

A trawl of the 'net ought to find where somebody has tried this idea and if they succeeded or failed.

  12. Youtube have made downloading to save much harder so many online sites & browser addons no longer work.

One that usually does is 9xbuddy.

The main link for each resolution plays the file.

So long as a backup one is also listed if you click that you should be prompted to download / save file, or if your browser is set that way the download will just start to be saved on the selected or default folder.

Should it not be MP4 but another format VLC player handles virtually all formats.

Perhaps a 24V battery charger could be used. Some larger models, for forklifts, can supply 60A or more. Then there is this from a US site

    https://www.altendc.com/

Perhaps there is something similar available in the UK.

You would need to enquire but a unit specifically intended as a battery charger might not work without a substantial battery pack connected.

A transformer is the first part but it will also need a substantial rectifier to give DC unless the BV would be happy with AC.

After the rectifier the DC would be full wave rather than ' clean ' DC as from batteries.

The heating element probably would not care if AC or just rectified but a DC control system might well need a cleaner i.e. smoother DC. Any wiring change would of course mean the unit was both not as original and non standard which might cause confusion in the future.

  15. Rather than going straight to the PC I have always recorded to a DVD recorder then copied the DVD into the PC to edit, title etc. The best DVD resolution is 1 hour per DVD. How much longer before the losses are noticeable depends on the source. If VHS / 8mm I found 2 hours on a DVD looked the same as 1 hour.

Even from miniDV where the end requirement was DVD I took the same path. My DVD recorder was a Pioneer with a DV input rather than having to use SVHS. For Hi8 with a Digital8 camcorder that will play Hi8 the same route could be taken

I've no idea about Windows 10 compatible software, if I had to do this again I'd fire up my XP machine.

I did try an admittedly relatively cheap Dazzle USB device and the result from even mediocre VHS looked far worse the original.

When free site transport was available on site the LWH often toped the on leaving site. That was before the LWH was closed for extended periods of the year due to a number of reasons one being staffing levels and cleaning of facilities. Also what was the thinking behind designing the AAM a structure to house aircraft requiring the whole glazed frontage to be removed to allow movement of exhibits that didn't pass through the double doors. yes it won awards became listed and is totally impractical and out of keeping with the site.

I'm not at all surprised that the LWH was often at the top of the customer satisfaction questionnaire. I'm trying to recall the last time I was there but at the latest 2015. However if not then soon after rumours about closure were circulating.

I've pondered the AAM a few times. Displaying so many items in that amount of space is not easy. Presumably the idea was to have major items up in the air rather than on the ground too and once in place they were to be considered permanent. While certainly iconic it does not fit in with the surroundings of the era or the exhibits. For access to me while large cranes required removing sections of the roof would be more logical than the whole front.

I have always loved the land warfare hall, and will be personally devastated if he exhibits were to go.

Likewise. It is not a minor exhibit but could be a stand-alone full blown museum.

While of course down to the management ( using the term loosely ) to decide the focus of a museum IMO they also have to consider what brings visitors through the gate. Entry is not cheap ( from the website single adult £20, family £51 ). For those without a specialist interest diversity will influence deciding where to visit and in time re-visit. I wonder how many remember the Land Warfare Hall as much as the remainder of the site?

As to so many the major exhibits being moved to the USA rather than another UK site I strongly disagree with this.
