  1. Timbo, i presume the winch works, the vehicle is in great condition, but the engine was pulled out for another before we got it, so we have to put in another, we have a few spares, then the winch will be tested!!! The hope is to take it to displays and have a static display showing it winching one of our other cvrt's. (something different, especially over here) will let you know when we do it, will have to do a thread. Cheers. Shaun

  2. Reccymech66, thanks alot for that (in hindsight i wish i got copies of things like this when i was in) it will be an on going process for the c.e.s. So i will probably give you a buzz. But once again thanks. Take it easy out there, is the B.V. Still getting used out there, or is it too warm for a brew? Cheers shaun

  3. Hi all, I wonder if anyone out there who is clever can help me.End of last year when my wife went to usa with work she bought me a i pad, its so much easier to use than a p.c. Or laptop, switch it on and its direct. The only problem is i sometimes cant open some pages, or files, but also the problem i am having is, when writing on the forum i use normal sentances then start a new line, when i post it, it comes up as you see it now, all one huge paragraph (where you see the full stop, thats where i have started a new line). And also on the other forum im on, if i post question mark, exclamation mark or apostraphy, it posts number and a hash etc. Any idea's you clever lot! Thanks. Shaun

  4. The L.R. Td5 has 2 filters, a rotory and a normal spin on. The spin on has a habbit of coming loose, and is a swine to get to on some models, unless you have a slim filter strap. So you td5 drivers, keep a check on these! .The rotory sits in its housing, then the top is bolted down with a "o" ring seal, its common that the bolts are overtightened, and strips the threads, its only soft ally. .We used to have lots of customers saying "my turbo seems to make a whinning noise when i switch off the engine, is it normal" no its your filter! So many would not believe you until you showed them one on an opened one. .Going back to the original post, what about placing a remote filter somewhere out of site? You have the advantage of modern filtering, but its hidden out of view? .cheers shaun

  5. Hi all,I asked this question in the wanted section, but i thought i will also ask here as its in the tracked section. We have a samson cvrt recovery, and its in very good condition, but missing its c.e.sSo my question is, does anyone have a full c.e.s. Listing for the samson, and secondly do you know of supplyers of the parts needed. Many thanks in advanceShaun

  6. Looking good,

I also like the " paulwart" made me chuckle. :-D

I'm still pondering on a name for my gal!

I just bought the ignition kit from jolly, so will be fitting it in the next few weeks, hopefully.

    Cheers

  7. If you work at the bench for a long time, get some rubber floor mats, it will help ease the load on your feet and up through your back.

If your doing a job and it's starting to annoy you, stop it, go have a brew or do a different job, then come back to it, once you have calmed down and take another look at it,

It's better to take longer and do it correct than to get wound up and end up breaking something causing you more work/expense.

Don't be afraid to ask! If you don't know, someone will. :D

  8. I always save all my old plastic pots, butter, spreads, olive's etc.

Then when you are stripping things down, place the nuts/bolts/parts etc in the pots put a strip of masking tape on the lid, write what the bits are for.

Makes it so easy when you re build, and also keeps the work place tidy.

Then once you have finished you can just pull off the tape. :D

  9. The m.p's in Bosnia at the check points, could hear if you was speeding or not, before they got the speed gun out! (we still had to obey road speeds) just from the rumble or howl from the tyres!

I think they sound great, and the more aggressive the tread, the more howl they make under heavy braiding, certainly makes people look. :D

Its a shame Goodyear and Dunlop don't re-make there military tyres, but I suppose the cost would be quite high.

What's the difference between a condom and a tyre?

  10. Paul,

Have you seen the latest (march) issue of CMV, on page 32, about mil vehicles in divvy use, the modified explored at top of page, it has the same pattern tyres as you have ( which I think are probably the best looking tread) but they are a bigger size, I think they would look good on a stilly!

Where do you think it would be possible to get those "Russian" style tyres from?

    Cheers

    Shaun

  11. They are a nice bit of kit, i like the powered swimboard, i had a play in one in bosnia, the chap was nice, but spoke no english! :D

and the only german i knew, was "a beer please" and "i love you"

  12. Just stumbled across this thread, the salamander is/was a nice looking truck.

I remember there used to be one at the newark air museum, not sure if its still there, it was probably 15 odd years ago that i saw it.

Its a shame to see the old girls like that, but great pictures anyway mike.

    Cheers

    Shaun

  13. You just using her for off road fun then?

There are lots of parts on them that are heavy, i couldnt believe the weight of the load bay floor supporting frames when i took them off to work on the engine.

Obviously they were designed to carry 5 tonnes, but im thinking of making new ones from ally, as im not going to carry much, probably just some crazy passengers! :cool2:

    Cheers

    Shaun
