  1. Fantastic help from John with this topic and a donation has now been made to HMVF at johns request rather than take any money. 👍
  2. That would be perfect. I could purchase it if you want to sell or if allowed i could borrow it and scan it then return it with a deposit to you to cover Incredible fortune 🙂 Malc
  3. Hi I have been trying for a long time to find (without silly expense) info on the Mammoth Major that was used with the RAF Refuellers that i worked on in the 70s and 80s.. So i have some pictures and i have a Marshall parts and service manual for which some of the parts are the same. I wish i had access to one to photograph or measure (i'm in Northumberland) but they seem as rare as hens teeth, It started out as fun but i have enough machinery and CAD skills to start a scale project, its undecided over 1:8 or 1:4, its likely to be 1:8 as i have now the plans to build a working engine at this scale which i intend to modify to resemble the AV760. That said if i could do the 1:4 i could really get into a gearbox that could easily hide servos inside to operate but all of this is mostly redundant unless i can get some accurate measurements, pictures of me beside one or working on one is not cutting it and as my memory is starting to get old i am in a hurry :-D Anyway heres hoping someone can offer some pointers or help thank you Malc
  4. I had a couple of mins to spare so i just watched the video of the sabre that was for sale. Within minutes my blood had chilled and my adrenalin was flowing as all the memories of diving the CVRT's around roads like this came flooding back. I watched and remembered and started to think just how lucky i was to have experienced it and that no amount of words can truly convey the feeling :-D. oh how i wish i hadn't taken it all for granted  Malc
  5. I'm back :cool2: So 1 x stroke and 1 heart attack later. Have took the time to settle into a new role and r&r whilst preparing my tools area (mainly known as the garage). Got heavily involved in charity work to the neglect of my hobby, so its time to rectify that. I still intend to build this MK9 but i have lost everything that steve shirley sent me and now i see they have their own dilemma so maybe have to wait a while to start asking again. Anyone know if they have got a new location on the horizon yet? Malc
  6. I really wish my memory was in good sorts :embarrassed: I had a series 3 LWB which i converted...wait for it...i took a V8 from a crashed SDI race car, it had Holly 4 barrels and janspeed exhaust the works, it took some squeezing in but the conv went well. I mounted it to a standard LR box so not auto conv i'm afraid so not much joy to help here but the power was awesome. I did wish i converted it to auto and was looking to do it, as as i was testing it i used to melt the side of my boot on the exhaust pipe as i dipped the clutch pedal..ooooh hot hot hot Ahh yes i can also remember the 2 to the gallon bit as well at full chat malc
  7. The commander at the tme was a corporal MT Fitter, we were in a samson
  8. you want butt a clencher, i was told you had to take the knife edge full out in second gear, just to say i hospitalised the commander :-D
  9. I could never get the hang of these gearboxes, real shame as i could do with some wood for me stove :-D:-D
  10. who's robin? and don't answer 'i am' :D
  11. I used to play the trumpet and that was hard enough and it is a lot easier than a bugle as you have to get ALL the notes with just your lips so to speak. I learnt by playing middle C then top C then bottom C, this gave my lips the practice to cover the range needed, when i had these covered easy i was able to throw in the other notes that do not use the valves and then finally the vales came into play at the end. I wish you all the best with your venture and i am sure you will achieve it for such a worthy cause. Malc
  12. I left in 86 so i must have missed the changes :-) But the first scans you had clive were spot on, i want to incorporate the 1084 (not in its entirety) into my engineers PDA, when it downlinks it will connect to a sql server db (unless our open source one is done). By using the codes i intend to spot trends in equipment far more detailed than before.....my engineers will hate me, but my reports will be brill :-) Clive how do i proceed to get a copy from you?
  13. That is just excellent, so if you are able to do something that would help us can we offer a donation or the like? Malc
  14. It looks like tears before bedtime here :-D We are arguing now about the letter A as in 1A00, i insisted it changed but dave thinks not Malc
  15. Well well you are right, that is a large bit of nostalgia there. The forms you have shown are the correct ones and the codes are exactly what we have been looking for. I dont think you can beat the way it works hence our need to remember the codes as we want to impliment the same system here at work. Thank you so much for this info, can i ask are we able to see the other codes somewhere :cool2: Malc
  16. Hi Clive That was quick :-) Well the form was a g1084a and was a4 size that covered all the vehicle details the work carried out along with the parts used, i cannot remember what was on the back. The booklet was apprently forward repair codes from woolwich, i originally thought it too was an AP but it seems not. In this small booklet of only a couple pages in my mind but a dozen in daves :-), it had codes like 1A18 which would indicate adjust tappets. Thats good information there and certainly jogged our memory, we had the g in the wrong place Hope to get there soon :-) Malc
  17. In the 1970's and 80's come to that, as mecahnics in the RAF we used to fill in job sheets for vehicle repairs on 1084 forms, they were very comprehensive i liked them. Having some discussions currently wih a friend who worked with me and also used the forms, we have tried to find the forward repair codes that we used, they were in a small booklet and were in groups dependant on what you were repairing and it has driven us mad as we cannot find a single reference to this booklet or even 1084's on the web, so i dont suppose anyone has seen anything? many thanks malc
  18. I am hoping for some drawings this week to work with, i cannot decide on the scale yet, i am thinking 1/14 for ease of parts but 1/6-8-10 for pure greed :-D only trouble is the larger the scale the larger the cost as the 1/6 is 1.4M long  I hope to visit a museum soon that has 2 for me to get that real close up as it has been many years since i worked on one malc
  19. Hi Took mine in the winter and as mentioned before the roads can be slippy for numerous reasons, the rubber pads do tend to slide and it can be difficult to go dead straight in an emergency stop. One other prob i had was i wear glasses and it was hell in the rain, mind you H&S might insist you wear goggles these days, not sure on that one. good luck Malc
  20. Hi All Live in Northumberland but originally from the south of UK. Been sitting in background admiring the site and the forums for a short while, decided what the heck get in there and join. Looking forward to joining in on a topic or 2 as i will be asking for help sometime. My aim is to try to build a large scale Thornycroft Mk9 Nubian Major, (Sorry but cannot afford real one). regards Malc
