  1. There's a lot of info needed to know what would be best for what you would need ,, HVLP = high volume low pressure ,, I take it you'll be using acid etch and two-pack paints , are you working inside ?

    I just use normal type spray guns plus the gravity fed type , if using the HVLP type I dare say you'll end up with less airborne particles so less chance of overspray

Great pictures , Whats with the wheels I can see the two front trucks are not identical but the front one has spoked wheels up front and the rear wheals look solid very much the same as the truck behind but then its front wheels are not spoked , did some have wheel discs like hub caps or would they be just pressed wheels ?

     

    the guys in the lower pic look a bit sick maybe broke a half shaft , ropes on the ready but whats the box ?

  4. just checked and its not callled the Churchill , what I was thinking of was a Mark1 ,,, just looked it up on wiki , or a Renault FT-12 ,,while on there was reading about a very large French machine for WW1 at a running weight of 69tons and a crew of 12 ,, will do a search for another rare beast now by Porsche

Hi, that looks to be a very good museum , my other half would not be pleased at the best of times if I was to take her to a place like that or any place with mechanical objects for that matter ,,, as for working Xmas day I don't think I'd get away with changing an engine like in the past , But like I say to her "the animals still need feeding" ,

  6. Hi all, not sure of a request for my gift maybe just some piece n quiet , still not feeling to well ,

    All that I've bought so far is a new lathe shaft for my Fathers myford, because he left it on auto drilling a landrover clutch when fitting a merc engine in 1982

     

     

    Mark I find it very strange the vehicle pics that you've just posted I've just been looking at a truck which looks very similar a 1940's GMC ,

  7. A good one to look at today are Mercedes tipper trucks , they have a really slim diff , not sure what ratio difference there might be ,, ,, Also loading shovels and JCB's + dumpers .

    normally have a cog on the end of the half shaft then three planetary gears , then the outer hub is an inverted cog , so the half shaft often turns in opposite direction to wheel travel ,,,,,,,,, the diff is going to be high ratio to compensate for the finale reduction ,, A lot of auto transmissions use banks of planetary gears ,,

    looking at the design of it all it doesn't look as thought the splined or square shaft need to slide on the joints ( ? ) due to the design of the couplings that have been made , Is the gearbox made by Dennis ?

    also looking at the drawing it looks as thought the engine could be closer to the gearbox but not much farther away if you can see what I mean , are the springs in the couplings just to even out the propshaft between engine and box ?

     

    how does the clutch disengage I see that the cone needs pulling to-wards the gearbox , can see maybe two ballraces one inside and one outside so

    I take it the inside one supports the clutch cone so the outer one must be the release bearing ,,,,,,,, Do you not have many parts for the clutch and flywheel because the engine came from a water pump ?

  9. great I was close to that figure but looking at the engine didn't think it would be that size , was thinking more like 4500cc and if it had been I might have been able to make use of parts but with each cylinder being 1420cc its a bit on the large size

     

    I'm also led to believe the Americans have two different ways of coming up with the cubic inch one been swept volume but not sure of the other "only that its a bit crazy"

Hi, another thing that should be pointed out , if you go into your photobucket account one day and think that it looks cluttered don't do like my friend did and start deleting pictures as they will disappear for good that means all pictures posted on forums to , is this thread going to be in the main index ?

  11. I'm normally quite good at searching Goggle maps on satellite view , but you can't zoom in very much , so added to the search Murrayville Victoria, Australia "scrap yard " and it comes up strait away ,,

I caught up with an old pal today that I've not seen in a long time , and some how we got talking about this forum and him not having restored any old vehicles lately ( used to have a series three LR ambulance ) he asked if I new of anything interesting so told him about the blue Morris and the comer cabbed fordson in my last post above , he seems very keen for one of them , but has asked me to find what would be a fair price ,,,, now the fordson is running and probably will not need a lot doing to get roadworthy ,, the morris will need welding repairs to the cab not sure how much but bottoms of doors have been plated not very well , and has electrical problems , both will probably need the brakes looking at , both i think are good projects but don't know what he should offer for them ,,,,,,, I've tried to search for similar for sale but not found much for a comparison , does anyone have any ideas , many thanks in advance
