  1. The Roman Brasov's (still there....... I like these but the missus would not approve) & a small police car that has been condensed.. Surely somebody would like an 8 ton truck or two? Isuzu army truck and some Volvos hiding behind a Land Rover

    Iveco

I know the Canadian Army have these as troop carriers but from posts they are not so fond of them. The latest Iveco troop carrier designed to protect against mines etc is a really nice bit of kit and the UK Mod has bought them and stuck a new badge on the front.

I need to get back to the junk yards soon and do a better exploration of the truck yard. My apologies to the big truck guys, I need to pay more attention to the old trucks.

  10. Seems to be a piccy posting day today. Here is the Malaysian G Wagen variant
  11. I heard rumours about this vehicle (SIBMAS ARV) in the Junkyards. I got sent these photos and was apparently a few years back but no-ones knows the fate just yet.

:rofl::rofl: actually I don't think it's that argumentative in this forum given the size of the posting comunity. There is always going to be different opinions on anything and hopefully this causes debate (hopefully not completely vitriolic). I commented on this thread as its an interesting topic and the topic can veer both ways. Mind you a pink tank :argh: I heard there was also an armoured vehicle that got stretched, pimped with a hot tub in the back.

I thought I'd chuck my 2 cents in as to me, it's an interesting topic, with passionate opposing sides. When I bought my Pinz it had this fancy camo paint job but under the law here it has to be removed "something about a load of ex army trucks emptying a armoury out". I also lean towards the, trying not to alter a car too much, so perhaps in years to come it could be converted back to originality. If a car is being shown at a historic show it should be original (ish) But I think an owners vehicle is his and they can do what they want because: - it's his/her money - a least it's a vehicle saved, to some extent instead of being scrapped (gone forever). I hear there is a bright pink armoured vehicle driving around in the UK. Once that owners group gets weary of it I am sure it will be rebuilt or parted out.
  14. Well another weekend of tinkering passes by Getting there, on both trucks. I have to trouble shoot the phneumatically operated diff locks next weekend  Also got some more wreck pictures
  15. depends where it was as if away from the coast and very cold most year round then corrosion dont occur. At freezing temperatures, very little water so no electrolyte. Look at the planes they pulled out of Greenland a few years back they were in pristine condition (but were buried under ice). Always damp like UK is a corrosion breeding ground, but what really messes it up is the salt they put on roads as that collects and stays damp.

    Safety

This happened in Aussie a few years back. A fitter with a works van left an E size Oxygen and Acetylene cylinder on the back seat of a Toyota dual cab over the weekend. The Acetylene cylinder must not have fully closed and a small leak occurred. Over the weekend the Acetylene had accumulated in the van. On the Monday morning the fitter approached the van and opened the door, a large explosion took place. We believe the ignition could have been caused by either the internal light, the automatic door control or by a mobile phone which was on the front seat of the van. The fellow was also a smoker. He has damage to his ear drums and facial damage. As you can see by the attached photos he was very lucky
  17. The hydraulic pack is electrically powered. I think the MOD ones are 12V and other places, such as Canada are 24V. So I was wondering if the only difference was light bulbs and the hydraullic pump motor, or is the motor 12-24v rated? Or is all the wiring completely different Curious what it would say in the manual.
  18. Whats difference between the 12 and 24 volt. I am guessing just the 24V motor running the hydraulic pack?
  19. This was in a Land Rover breakers yard in Cambridgeshire called FenLandrover about 12 months ago. Was for sale, not actively, I just asked about it whilst I was there. Apparently becoming quite rare.

    Safety

I think they are banned in Australia as the shopping trolley kids used to use them to hold 20 trolleys together and push. One let go with much damage. But yes protecting your eyeballs is quite important and I would be the first to admit I am slack in wearing the old safety glasses at times. Some good stuff coming out here. Other item we can come accross: - oven cleaner is typically paint stripper. Wives don't get the same level of HSE - Extension cables on reels should always be unrolled as if not the opposing magnetic fields can cause it to melt and catch fire - Lead based paint as lead is accumulative Always what I have found interesting is when you are doing something daft you think to yourself "if I slip this will hurt" is exactly when it happens

    Safety

I never got told there was any fatality. I work in petrochem inspection so a lot of safety stuff goes around. I just posted that I guess as: - some of us have high vehicles, antennas etc - also if you are going to chuck a chain over, look first On the post earlier about thread tape, unless its something extremely low pressure like a water tap I wouldn't use it. If a threaded insert is leaking normally means the thread is damaged. Threaded things can shoot out at quite high velocities.

    Safety

The power line earthed out via the chain and truck. I have a video of a crane doing this somewhere also

    Safety

I don't think he lost his hand, but got a good burn. I get a fair amount of safety stuff but most are dumb ones ie you think you would have to be daft to do that. The oxy bottle one though is something one could easily do. My leg is bizare. Anyway one more this morning that could possibly occur if you were not thinking and tying down your load (with chains)
  24. I am currently based in Malaysia but I was in the UK for 5 months, last year. I got the urge to rebuild something so the Lightweight was it. I shipped the Lightweight to Aus to coincide with my leave and we drove it from Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide and accross to Kalgoorlie with a few spots inbetween. The high ratio transfer box was the best investment. I was looking for another one here but the one I found was utter rubbish with Rolls Royce price tag. So I bought a Pinz
