Read somewhere a while back about a large museum at Catterick barracks, from what I remember it would partly consist of the vehicles left over from the army transport museum at Beverley (the ones that weren't given back to their owners). Anyone know any more about this or have any information on it anywhere?
-
Yep it's the 76mm - as far as I know none were used by the British except for a few towards the end of the war, and certainly weren't used at DD tanks (there's no way the gun would go high enough to clear the canvas screen)
-
Cheers, might be going for the day, maybe in civvies. Especially looking forward to the vehicles, does there tend to be many Brit ones going along? I'll also be drooling over the jeeps seeming as i'm now hooked on 'em
-
Might be there, don't know though, apparently i've missed the cut-off date for free passes for re-enactors. Does there tend to be many vehicles there then?
-
Here's a new claim to fame - i'm third from the right above Jerry Thurston's (off Salvage Squad) left shoulder :-D Later drove around in the jeep with him, had never been in a Jeep before this weekend, and now i'm hooked on em!

As for the tank which didn't look like a Sherman - could it have been a 76mm Sherman? Haven't seen the film for a while but remember seeing a photo of the filming at a museum in Ouiestreham (sp?) showing a 76mm Sherman with canvas screens down. Also, was the film in colour as well? The last time I saw it it was in black and white, but I could swear i've seen it at least twice in colour.....

Still looking for a 15 cwt-er to restore, anyone have any leads or spotted one looking sad in a field?
-
Are you guys going to the Atherstone event the last Saturday in November.I've been asked by the Lord Mayor of North Warwicks to turn up with some Military kit!!.
Regards
Steve
Might do, it's only a quick run up the A5 from me, is there something going on that weekend then?
-
Many thanks for that, really enjoyed reading about his experiences, I hope no one in this country ever forgets
-
Tim - where abouts are you? I'm about 10 miles south of Leicester myself, Earl Shilton about two miles from Hinckley to be precise
-
Very nice, i've only ever seen one Morris C8 before and to be honest don't know much about them, were they common in service and are there many around today? Seems like a lot of WW2 British vehicles currently reside in the south east, maybe it's a sign I should move down there!

I know someone near me who is very close to Leicester (Desford) who has a Dodge 4x4, either the WC51 or 52 i'm not sure, the person that owns it is a US Paratrooper re-enactor. I could contact him and see if he'd be up for it, then pass him on to you if that'd be any use? There's a collection of military vehicles in Leicestershire, not exactly sure what they have but it includes a Jagdpanther, Sherman and Universal Carrier as well.
Cheers, Rob

where as the Show
Here in lovely Leicestershire outside a village called Cosby. Looks like it's back on for next year, lets hope we have great weather again
-
Blimey, that place filled with skeletons scared the heck out of me :schocked: Is that in the UK?! One slight noise and i'd have been out of there quicker than a rat
-
Why not go one step further and trying to find one to re-unite him with? They're rare but i've seen a photo of a 15 cwt at a show on the Isle of Wight. Can't find any on the IMPS register but there's bound to be others out there somewhere
-
Anyone going to this in a couple of weeks time? I'll be there, looks like it'll be my first event as a re-enactor (I'll be with Tommy Atkins on the Sunday)

Looks like there was a BMW combo and a Renault truck last year, be nice to see some other vehicles
-
Just got another interesting claim to fame - was watching the 'World at War' documentary the other day about the war in North Africa - you see Churchill walk past a line of troops, and you can see my grandad in the line giving him the victory sign the other way round! :-D
-
Very nice - where did the Auster come from?
-
Nice - is that an early or late Amazon? Yorkshire Air Museum have a later version, and apparently Duxford have one stored somewhere, would be nice if that was put on display one day
-
Blimey that's a spot of luck - even got the right markings i'm after too. Cheers!
It is a bit far away though, and expensive, so if anyone knows of any others, especially ones needing work, again, let me know

Hey all, looking for a Fordson WOT2 15cwt truck or any other British 15 cwt in absolutely any condition possible, if anyone knows of one for sale, has one for sale or knows of one that might be for sale etc, please let me know and help get another 15 cwt on the display circuit!
Cheers, Rob

Good job the Messerschmitt didn't come, the 514th would have bagged it!

A nice touch!
I'll have my own one day.... 8-)

I'll be taking plenty of photos from a MOP's point of view, can't wait for the battle! Hope the 514th will have the Bofors ready for the Bf109 :-D

It won't work for me unfortunately mate - although please let him know that this young person in England (only just 18) is very interested in what happened over sixty years ago, if it wasn't for him and his fellow soldiers actions we wouldn't be here now, or if we were it wouldn't be much of a life

Cheers Steve, will be my first trip up to the Yorkshire Moors as well. In the Yorkshire MVT page for the Pickering steam rally there's a rather nice Ford WOT2 pictured behind the desert yellow Humber FWD - do you know who owns it? I only know of examples in the south east (apart from one in the Muckleburgh Collection and I saw one near Loughborough in bomb disposal colours a few years back).
Cheers, Rob
