Have you tried the Royal Artillery museum? http://www.firepower.org.uk they have a very good research facility, haven't been to the research bit myself but the guy that works there gets back to you quick and answers your questions via e-mail

Theres a 1944 fire engine at the Science Museum reserves collection at Wroughton, open at certain times each month, if that's any use. A lot of stuff comes up if you type in Austin K4 to google, seems to be mostly fire engines though

Been asked by the owner of Ace models, a plastic military vehicle kit model company, if I had any drawings of the 15 cwt truck series used by the Brits in WW2, so he can look into producing models in 1/72 of them (about time some British softskins were made in 1/72). I don't have any, but does anyone have any, or know where I could find some? Looking for the Fordson WOT2, Bedford MW, and the Morris CS8. Cheers for any help, Rob

Looks great on the website, hopefully i'll be spending at least one night maybe two in the area, so perhaps could go on the the day before or after the event, get all the photos I want (i've seen pics of the Morris Light Recce Car there, looks like it has it's doors open all the time so i'll have a look in there and if theres any guides try and get myself a sit in it), and then return on an event day to see the tanks in action.

Has anyone been here recently? Hopefully in Summer when I have my car i'll drive down to Dorset to go to the Tank museum among other things, and just wondered if it's worth the journey down there. I'm mostly interested in WW1 and WW2 armoured cars and tanks.

Haven't heard about that, do you have any more details? If i'm free one weekend might go along

Wow nice - are the Autocar and the FWD the same ones used by the US Doughboys re-enactors?

I know that RAF buildings on old bases have become listed buildings so hopefully that should stop them being pulled down. Have you been to the Lincolnshire aviation centre, at East Kirby? They have a taxiable Lancaster bomber there, and the control tower is reputably haunted.

I've been in the control tower before, only me and my brother were in there and there was a very uneasy atmosphere, felt really weird and as if other people were there even though it was definitely just us, we got out of there pretty damn quick. This was before i'd read about the place being haunted so it's not as if it happened because I was expecting it to happen.

Great story, would be greater if someone found the Jimmy and fixed it back together :lol:

Cheers for the welcome everyone, sirhc are you going to the Victory Show 2006? The first one was last year, it's in Cosby, Leicestershire, great military vehicle/re-enactor/aircraft show. This year i'm supposed to be trying to get an Auster WWII spotter plane to fly up from Devon, don't know if he's going to land it or not but could try and get you a free flight if he comes up :wink:

Haven't seen the B with number on the side on a British DUKW before, and have seen restored examples in museums and on the show circuit, also seen a British DUKW at a museum at Falaise. The markings i've seen on British DUKW's is the same as on the Italeri 1/72 model markings for a British DUKW, the top one in this picture of the back of the box of the model

A reason you see quite a few German half tracks and Hetzers around is that the Czechs made copies of them after WW2, they're not perfect copies but if you don't look to hard you won't notice, the copy of the Sd.Kfz 251 was the OT810 but I don't know what the one for the Hetzer was

Also i'm one of very few people under 40 to have Glaucoma, some sort of eye condition, nearly went blind as a baby but it's pretty much gone now.

Anyone seen 'Snatch'? The guy that played Tommy, Stephen Graham, is married to my best mates drama teacher who seems to like me, trying to get his autograph at the moment.

Also, anyone into aviation, I saw the 'Spirit of St Louis' replica crash at Coventry airport at an airshow back in 2002 (I think). Was one of the few people to get a photo of it as it fell, the Air Investigation Branch told me they wanted the photo, but when I asked them where did they want it sending to they never replied.

Thats about all I can think of, i've seen a few movies and TV Programmes being filmed as well.

Wow great restoration, wasn't aware of any privately owned WWI trucks in the UK apart from the Thorneycroft owned by a re-enactment group. Do you have any other trucks or vehicles?

A lot of them, after used by the allies for trials, ended up on firing ranges, like a lot of allied tanks did, theres loads of Churchills etc on firing ranges, shame the condition is too bad for them to be restored though

Good pics, i'd love to get down to Bovington one day, maybe in the Summer when I have my car. Isn't Jack Higgins the guy who commanded an A13 cruiser tank in France, and the museums A13 is marked up as his? Sounds like a great guy, i'd love to be able to meet him one day.

Always been interested in this little armoured vehicle, does anyone know of where any survivors are? I know of four, and these are

Mk I at Bovington Tank Museum

Mk I at Duxford, in the Land Warfare Hall

Mk II at museum in Brussels (looks in bad shape)

Mk II owned privately by Ian West somewhere in the UK.

I think theres about two others privately owned in the UK at least, might be more though. Any pictures of the survivors would be good if anyone has any, i'm waiting for a model from Czechslovakia to come in the post any time soon.

Hi everyone, been looking for a forum like this for a long time so i'm glad to finally find one. My names Rob Langham, a 17 year old sixth form student from Leicestershire, England. Always been interested in military vehicles, especially from WW1 and WW2, would love to own one one day but at the moment I have to do with models of them instead.
