  1. Just not sure about this one, is it April the 1st already?

But from a business point of few, this really does present some serious business opportunities as I would imagine a lot of vehicles 'would' be put on the open market, which means that there would be a flood of MV's -which means that the price will drop.

The only way to tell is to keep an eye on Milweb.

Export is not an option for the French, read below, from another forum>>

This is indeed true and quite worrisome. I spent the week-end at the Paric Antic Car Show and talked with the President of FFVE, the French Federation of Historic Vehicles. This Federation consolidates the 950 historical vehicles (military and civilian) clubs, which represents 15000 collectors. The MVCG (Military Vehicle Collector Group) mentioned in your email is part of the FFVE. The FFVE President is in direct contact with French authorities to address this issue.

    Here is the story

A recently enacted law (Nov 2005), called "loi sur la securite interieure" (i.e. interior security law) has organized weapons into 8 groups; from group 8 (collector and historical neutralized arms) to group 1 (missiles and modern military weapons). For reasons still unknown to us, all military vehicles (land, air, sea) are in group 2. This includes, as mentioned in your email, any land vehicle designed for military use (i.e. GMC, Dodge, Jeep, but also Hummers, ...).

French law requires any one who wants to own a group 2 weapon (i.e. 38 or 45 hand guns, rifles,...) to file a demand with the Law Enforcement Authorities. Authorizations are very seldom granted and now most fire arms users join shooting range clubs where they find guns for rent. It is likely that obtaining an Authorization to own a half-track, but also a jeep, will be quite difficult. If authorization is not granted by the end of October 2006, the vehicle must be sold to someone who has the authorization, or turned down to French authorities for destruction.

When the law was initially drafted, it stated that MV could not be used in public roads, except during special cerimonies, with police escort. Fortunately, the FFVE got this issue resolved. But the following requirements remained:

    - all vehicles must be kept locked in a secure garage (i.e. no parking in the street unattended)

    - extra measures must be taken to prevent anyone starting the vehicle (simple ignition key is not enough)

This law is currently legally challenged by the FFVE, but that's what they have been doing for the last two years with little success. If no resolution is found within the next few months, all our vehicles could end up in museums (sale value close to nothing) or destroyed. The law limits export and import transaction, so selling to a foreign buyer is hardly an option.

This is not good news and we all wait for a law reversal with anxiety. I will let you know more about it.

  2. Richard,

I've seen one recently where the fluid flywheel exploded, smashed the bell housing to bits, broke the nearside rear deive shaft somehow which smashed the crap out of the turret basket, looks like a bomb went off in there, must of scared the crap out of the crew, the commanders seat was also damaged, luck would have it I had a spare pair of Fox rear drive shafts for the guy, still got a front pair if anyone needs some..

Still looking for a Tacho for my Fox if anyone has one.

  3. anyone who tries to give you an accurate speed is guessing as the speedo doesn't go up that high.

My speedo in the Fox is marked up to 70, I was clocked by my mate following at 75mph & the speedo was just over the 70mph mark so can't be that far off, at lower speeds it's almost spot on.

Some speedo's are only marked up to 50mph with two dots for 60 & 70, I think Chris M. has one of these..

  4. Man that looks fun, should have a charity military vehicle race meeting sometime, don't know if they'd let Scorpions etc fly around the track though!

We did ask the about tracked for this year, they said Nooooooooo.

  5. Hi all,

I've heard that the Fox is so light and fast and at the same time top heavy that it used to tip up a lot when going round corners, has anyone ever had any bad experiences with Foxes on here?

    cheers, mick.

I wouldn't call 6 tons that light, I have had mine up to 75mph & it handles well, I threw it around brands hatch last year with no problems, I don't think it's as top heavy as it's made out to be, nearly all the accidents were off road.

My Fox at Brands 2005, back at Brands again this year

  6. As I live in Dagenham and the vehicle will be stored somwhere nearby places like Coalhouse Fort or the Powder Mills

    Neil,

I would forget Coalhouse Fort for storage as a Saladin/Saracen only just fits through the gate both being 2.54m wide the Stalwart if I'm correct is 2.62m, it would leave you with hardly any clearance & I think the people at the C.F.P. like their gates where they are.

As far as I'm aware there's no vehicle storage at the Gunpowder Mills, I'm sure Rapier Rob will be able to answer this one though, over to you Rob..

  7. Hi all, I'll be starting a restoration on my WW2 Quad 20mm Polsten traillered Anti Aircraft unit within the next 2 weeks, so as soon as its delivered I'll start work/posts on it.

This is what it looks like and about the same condition too,

    Thanks.

    Tyler.

Is that the one from JP DEACS? If so you beat me to it

  8. Lee,

Is that a picture of your fox at the 2005 show, very nice.

Yep that's my Fox, Rob has booked us to do the live fire display at the Mills this year with the Fox, Saladin & 120mm Mobat, anyone on this list going to the Mills?

Yes - I might well be there!! :D

I will be easy to find, I'll be the one making all the noise, see you there hopefully

  9. Lee

What you need to look out for is:

WO Code No 12757 User Handbook for the Equipment 120mm BAT L4 (MOBAT) consisting of Gun, 120mm BAT, L6A1 and Carriage, 120mm, BAT, L2A1. Published 1960 superseding WO Code No 12243.

    Hi Clive,

I've just managed to get hold of a copy of W.O.12243 1958 on Ebay.

What I would like to get hold of is the handspikes that are stored on either side of the carriage, about 4' long, I have know idea what they look like or how they would of been used, the other bit I need is the leather box that is on the gunners shield, it hold the light for the sight & spare batteries.

I would also like to get the correct clinometer for it, it shows how to use it in the book but no ref to what type, any ideas??

    MOBAT11.jpg

There seems to be very little info out there on the MOBAT, all I keep coming across is for the WOMBAT, can you answer this one? I know the CONBAT stands for Converted Bat, but what is the conversion?

    firing.jpg

why you don't stand behind a MOBAT/WOMBAT..four-fiths of the propellant gasses are vented to the rear.

  12. With a name you have to have all of the magic ingredients and the clue really does has to be in the title...

    1. Location - East, West, South etc etc

    2. What does the group do? - So words like military and/or vehicles have to be in the title somewhere.

3.Can you get a good acronym out of it the title.

    4. Clear logo that will translate to any medium

    5. Is it a club, group, charity, association etc etc

    6. The name has to be a wide enough umbrella to accommodate future growth and change of direction......

Just a few pointers to help - hopefully 8)

  13. Hello,

I will hopefully be starting to respray the Ferret next week, so expect heavy snow, floods and generally, damp cold weather!

I'm not sure what paint to use on the exhaust shield, on the exhaust itself I'll use proper exhaust paint, but I want the shield to be sand colour.

So, can I use exhaust paint and then over paint it with the normal sand paint or is there another way?

    Regards

    Richard

    Hi Richard,

my Ferret's exhaust shield is painted in the same paint as the rest of the Ferret it's been on there for 3 years with no problems, gets quite hot but it doesn't seem to be a problem.

  14. Yes, nice bunch of guys, same time same place?????

How is the russian jeep? still going strong?

Cheers, not a bad bunch yourselves
