  1. When the Ferret was introduced into Canadian service it was the only vehicle with the central round style slave socket, which has become the NATO standard it seems.

The other vehicles in the CF (Canadian Forces) usage at the time had the American style with the two offset pins.

As I bumble around trying to assemble things for my Canadian Ferret I was pondering one day as to how the Ferrets could have been slave started by anything other than another Ferret if there was no adapter.

So, knowing there are some smart people on Maple Leaf Up I posted this question over there and CMPMAN aka Rob Love replied that my suspicion was correct and that there was a special short cable and that he happened to have one in his special shed.

I coincidentally had a trinket that turns out he could use so we did a swap by mail.

I am now the proud owner of a quite uniquely Canadian piece of kit for a Canadian Ferret.

My thanks go to Rob Love for his generosity.

    Regards

  2. Thanks for posting the thread and putting the link up.

I think it is done with class and respect and deserves a tip of the hat to those who did it. True it is an advertisement but we all can clearly see that but it acknowledges the War and keeps it in the public eye and will raise funds for the RBL.

I have no chance of buying at Sainsbury these days but my family out here thought it very well done and enjoyed it.

    Solid seal of approval here

  3. Welcome,

do I suspect you might be from North America with a user name like that?

Some people find it helps to add their location in the top right of the profile bit that shows up.

Look forward to seeing what you own and operate or have owned.

    welcome in

  4. The question was generated as a local sale may yield two ex Lightweight FFR unitary stations.

My best mate has recently acquired a somewhat civilianised S3 FFR and seeing as how tripping over anything British military out here is about as common as the proverbial hens teeth I am encouraging him to buy them. Hopefully if they wont go in his S3 109 then I can save them for someone else just by having somewhere to store them.

Maybe even just a display of the unitary set up on its own would be a hoot.

Anyway, I'm off to sharpen my pencil and practice my best "ooh t'aint worth much, even at scrap price I would be doing you a favour chum" routine in the mirror!

    Thanks for the input

    will report back later
