  1. Hi

    Chassis number will be MWR44502

Contract V4714, this was for 1700 Wireless Trucks (MWR), contract was let on 29th August 1941, first deliveries were on 24th October 1942. Yours was the 904th vehicle produced under that contract and was delivered in late Feb 1943

As Wally says, there is very little chance of getting its war time history

    Cheers

  2. Hi

Olive Drab paint code is BS381C 298

Olive drab from different suppliers does come out slightly different colours, there will also be slight variations in colour depending how the paint is applied brush/spray. The colour also changes with age.

I use a semi-gloss from Express Paints in Portsmouth

The only other recommendation I would make is buy sufficient paint to do the whole job

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

  3. Hi

Haven't posted for a while, but finally took my MWC to Southwick D Day Revival Show, sill plenty to do and the engine is not running well, think it is the carb...

Had a quick photoshoot at Southwick Park  House (Allied Commanders HQ) north of Portsmouth where the Allied Commanders met in the lead up to the D-Day invasion of Europe.

  4. Hi

I no longer have a requirement for this 200 gallon bowser, Bowser used on Bedford MWC's and other vehicles. It is on a modified (post war ?) Bedford chassis. Reasonable condition, tyres are good, 50mm ball hitch, Located near Waterlooville - reduced to £120 ono

  6. Hi

I am afraid it is not as simple as that

From the circuit diagram of the Power Supply, it looks like the radio needs [You will need to double check these before powering up the radio]

    Pin A     0V Common Ground

    Pin B     +1.4V DC

    Pin C     6.3V AC

    Pin D     +250V DC

    Pin E      +100V DC

    Pin F      19V DC

    Pin G     6.3V AC

    Pin H     0V Common Ground

    Pin J      +19V DC

    Pin K      6.3V AC

    Pin L      No Connection

    Pin M    No Connection

Might be easier to find a matching power supply

    Cheers

  7. Hi

That is the 12 Pin Plessey Mk4 connector Fine thread

You should be able to make a power supply, I don't know what voltages are need and what pins on the 12 Pin plug they are connected to.

Some manuals are on line, but I don't have a circuit diagram for the radio to hand

    see http://www.vmarsmanuals.co.uk/archive/2045_R216_Illustrated_Parts_List.pdf

    and http://www.vmarsmanuals.co.uk/archive/2019_R216_User_Manual.pdf

I will check to see if I have a suitable mating connector

    Cheers

  8. Hi

Have you just got the radio, the power supply is a separate unit, I recall that it can be used with a DC supply or Mains supply, the connectors use are Plessey Mk4 connectors, I am pretty sure that these are the fine thread ones and not the course thread ones used on Larkspur Equipment

For DC supply you need a 2 Pin Plessey Mk4 Fine thread free socket

For AC supply you need a 3 Pin Plessey Mk4 Fine thread free socket

The for the radio you need a 12 Pin Plessey Mk4 Fine thread free socket, the mating half that connects to the Power Supply is a 12 Pin Plessey Mk4 Fine thread free plug

I have probably got all the sockets/plugs you need, feel free to PM me

    Cheers

    Hi

It is an amphenol type (probably PT series see  https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/mil-spec-circular-connectors/8721525), not a Plessey Mk4, so the ones above are not that right ones.

Amphenol make thousands of different pugs and sockets and getting the correct one with the right key ways is a pain.

I will have a look at the weekend to see if I have one of those.

  10. Hi

There are two sets of numbering system used on these cards, I don’t know why that is

    1)      Day/Month

    2)      Day number in year

The number recorded is the number of “items” received on that day, note there may be multiple entries for one day as “items” weren’t received at a single location. The received “items” were then transcribed onto the contract record card. I suspect that these cards were the “master” index and more detailed records were kept by the contracts department.

The front of the contract card normally gives an outline delivery schedule and sometimes when the first “item” was delivered. The front of the contract card also gives details of quantity, type and what Census numbers have been allocated.

In general chassis numbers and census numbers are in ascending order thought the duration of the contract. There is normally a reasonable correlation between chassis number and census number, but a one to one correlation cannot be assumed. Chasses were often taken off a heap/storage and also if any had to be re-worked this also put things out of sequence. Another point to make is that there may be other contracts for the same “item” running at the same time. I don’t know if census numbers were allocated at the start of or end of build.

    V3733.thumb.jpg.2d7614a1323901ccd02817b574963ba7.jpg

This is an example of chassis number vs. Census number from contract V3733 for Bedford MWD’s. The data points cone from the key cards that are held by the RLC. With this information and the corresponding contract card, you can obtain a reasonable estimate of the date of delivery and census number. I do have a reasonable amount if information on Bedford MW’s, and any MW key cards would be useful to gain a more accurate picture.

Sadly I think that all the individual records of chassis number, census number and delivery date have been lost.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

Would you happen to have the B set harness one, and the equivalent manuals for the Clansman at all please?

Sorry - no but most of them are freely available on the internet just search for "clansman vehicle installation manual". Many of the manuals have been made available due to Freedom of Information requests

    Cheers
