Hello, I had my M3A1 Stuart tank at a "pumpkin shoot" other wise known as "Pumpkin Chunkin" at Heiser Farms outside of Dayton, Or. (30 miles South of Portland) over the weekend. They had 4 cannions that fired pumkpins over 1,000 yards and destroyed several cars!!!. They use compressed air to fire the pumpkins. I had my M3A1 Stuart tank on display & I fired several blanks for the spectators! Here are links to a couple videos: A friend on mine sent me a couple photos of the muzzle flash. Hello, I was at the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum, in Hood River, Oregon, (60 miles East of Portland), for the annual old plane fly in Saturday 10 Sept. I was asked to have my M3A1 Stuart tank in the flag raising ceremony along with a local bagpiper. The flag was raised by retired Veterans. After the raising of the flag and music I fired a salute. Hello, Last weekend I was at the "Great Oregon Steam Up" in Brooks, Oregon, (About 30 miles South of Portland, Oregon). They have all sorts of steam powered vehicles on display and running. They honor Veterans so we bring some MV's down to display and run in the parade. I fired off some blanks in my M3A1 Stuart tank to start the parade. Link to videos: (It takes about 45 secs. to get going). After the parade while I was cleaning my barrel an elderly man watched me for a while and then he said, "We left one of those Stuart tanks in about 20 feet of water off the beach of Tarawa in 1943". He went on to say, "It was an early M3 Stuart with a 9 cylinder Guiberson diesel radial engine". I said really? He said the ramp got blown off the LST they were on and the tank went with it. No one was in the tank at the time. He introduced himself to me. His name is George Watson, a 92 year old USMC Veteran. 2nd Marine Div. , 2nd Tank Battalion. He was a Lt. and a tank commander. He went on to tell me about the time he was driving down a captured runway on Tarawa and the ran into a bomb crater and luckily there were a few other tanks there to pull them out. He was on Tinian, Siapan and Okinawa too. I then asked him if he would like to go for a ride on my tank. You should have see the big smile on his face! He replied, "REALLY"? I said yes sir, just let me finish cleaning the barrel and we will go. A few minutes later George climbed up on the tank (with just a little help) and off we went. A local club member got up on the tank with him just in case he needed any help. We went around the parade route. When we got back George couldn't thank me enough and said he had no idea he would take a ride on a Stuart tank today! "The last time I was on a M3A1 Stuart tank was in 1944"! Hello, I took my M3A1 Stuart along with a friends M18 Hellcat to the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum in Hood River, Oregon this weekend. That is about 50 miles east or Portland, Oregon. There was a GPW, Dodge command car and Humvee on display as well. There were about 150 old airplanes on display with a few WWII military planes: Steerman's and trainers. The airplanes owners really enjoyd seeing the military vehicles on display. Some were amazed that tanks used radial engines! Here are links to a couple of videos. Hello, On 4 Sept. I took a USMC Korean War Veteran out for a DUKW ride in the Willamette River. This was the first time he had been in a DUKW since 1952! He was in "A" Co. 1st Amphibian TRK. BN. 2nd Platoon. He went in the Marine Corps when he was 18 and was an assistant DUKW drive during the Korean War. His father, a former WWII Veteran, was the driver in the same DUKW! Hello, The "Ghost Riders" of the 101st AB had thier reunion in Vancouver, Wa. this week. These guys were Huey pilots and crewmen. Today I took the veteransd and family members for a DUKW ride across the Columbia River to tour the LCI-713. They all had a great time! Hello, Cool 45 degree weather & rain doesn't stop Ron Fitzpatrick & Marc Open from going for a DUKW ride on Wednesday! The sun poked through the clouds just long enought for a couple photos! Marc was in town from England visiting Ron. Ron stopped by on the way to the airport so Marc could enjoy his first DUKW ride in the water! A great time was had by all!!! Steve

Hello, Today was the annual Veterans Day Parade in Vancouver, Washington Vancouver is just across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon. I had the honor of hauling 2 WWII LCI Veterans in my DUKW. One of them came all the way from Florida with his 2 sons to visit the LCI-713 that is being restored in Portland, Or. (That was a birthday present from his sons) He served on LCI-1074. It landed in the Phillipines along with LCI-713 in 1942! As you can see it was a rather wet cool day. But that did not stop me from crossing the Columbia River! It was the first time either of the Vets had been on a DUKW. Here is a link to a video of the beach landing. Honor all Veterans... Steve 8)

Hello, The 41st Annual Oktoberfest held in Mt. Angel, Oregon was 17-20 Sept. Mt. Angel is located approx. 40 miles south of Portland, Or. I hauled my Stuart tank down for a old car show that he going on at the same time as the Oktoberfest, but only and Sat. & Sun. A couple friends brought a M41 Walker Bulldog, M75 APC & M35. We meet at my friends shop about 1 1/2 away from where the car show is located and we drive the vehicle to the show! The local police seem to really enjoy seeing us drive by as do all the spectators! The police even blocked traffic for us so we could get a group photo in front of the old church. There are about 3,700 people living in Mt. Angel. Approx. 300,000 or so come for this 4 day event! Hello, The 104th Infantry Division had been at Ft. Vancouver, WA for the past 63 years. They are moving their headquarters to Ft. Lewis, WA. last Sat. they held a farewell ceremony for the 104th. Several WWII Veterans attended and rode in WWII military vehicles during a parade of the troops. Unfortunately it was raining all morning, but that did not seem to bother the Veterans! They all really appreciated being honored and participating in the ceremony. Steve

Hello, The 41st Inf. Div. had thier annual reunion 27-30 August in Vancouver, Washington. Just across the Columbia Rver from where the LCI-713 is moored. Friday 28 August I took 90 WWII 41st Inf. Div. Veterans & family members across the Columbia River to tour the LCI-713. A couple of these Veterans served on board the LCI-713 during WWII! (The LCI-713 is being restored by a bunch of local volunteers.) I made 14 trips across the river! On the 11th trip my rudder cable broke!!!! :nono:One of the crew with me had to hand operate the tiller to steer the DUKW. I showed him what to do and we made 3 more trips across the river to get all the Veterans back before the sun set! The Vets had a great time. 2 of them had been on a DUKW before. 1 guy was last on a DUKW in 1942 and the other 1944! Steve

Hello, That was a MWO done by the military. They added the second bumper because when a Dianmod T would push a CCKW or 1 1/2 ton chev bumper to bumper the CCKW hooks would go under the Diamond T bumper sticking them together. I would imagine it would not be much fun getting them apart!!! My wrecker came with 2 front bumpers. Steve:)
