War Brides or 1953 equivalent?
Nope
-
Press gang
Nope not needed conscription was already in place!
-
It was the DMC.......my favourite bedtime reading ;-)
What else!
Who's going to explain what a sinker is?
-
Stewards?
Mess Orderlys?
Nope, the blue jackets were not always needed on every journey. Perhaps more were needed on the return journies :naughty:
-
Oh no, that poor bloody cabin boy !
Not quite sure what is being infered here but attempting that with any of the crew or an animal was a 10 year sentence. Whereas the possesion of forged bank notes was 14 years.
-
Firing squad :?
Nope. This is 1953, although the death penalty still existed, 6 executions would have been a bit excessive for one voyage.
-
Sinker
Yes well done Richard, was it the anagram or the DMC that gave it away?
-
Two clues:
A677 & A679 these are the DMCs
If you do crosswords think of "Sir Ken"
-
For prisoners :dunno:
Nope, it is something that Borat's country might have done.
-
Clues has something to do with:
Queens Regulations, Paragraph 688
Army Act, Section 11
-
Fumigation party (body lice etc.)
Ingenious thought but no.
-
Burial Party
Interesting thought, all those extra hankies! But no

Ah well I'm not sure that it's something to be proud of! It shows what idle finders & an internet connection will do when you have retired & it's too cold or wet to go & work on a vehicle. Tonight's project is to remove Christmas cake from the keyboard that has crept in there today exacerbated with cat dribble. I have a cat that often sits on my lap & when contended dribbles furiously. It is prone to stroll over the keyboards so not everything you read has been $6b 9kjn , by me.

Fire crew/ marshalls?
Nope. One would hope these blue jackets would not be issued. But Troop Ships were required to carry 6 of these blue jackets, 6 trousers surge unlined, 25 towels & 25 handkerchiefs if needed.
-
The crew????
Nope, in fact it might sound rather surprising.
-
Paravane winch from a mine sweeper??
Boom winch for coastal defences??
2 x nope
-
Probably because of a raving masochistic bent.
That may be so, but there was a specific group of individuals that would be required to be so dressed on a Troop Ship.

No you can't if you use it on the road for Non-Agricultral use.. http://www.fwi.co.uk/Articles/2006/06/08/91743/red-or-dead-your-red-diesel-questions-answered.html
Going into the Great Dorset Steam Fair vehicles were being checked by Customs & Excise for red diesel. I wasn't stopped as I think the Hornet looked too much of a challenge.
