  1. Hi everyone, long time lurker and first time poster. I have been planning a Jeep purchase for the last year and finally made the leap last weekend and it is now sat in my garage. It is MOTed and all on the road, aside from a blown starter motor (so has to be bump started) which I am sorting at the moment.

From what I can tell through research and looking at the Frame number my jeep is a 1944 Willys MB. Has the right engine though have yet to check serial number to see what age. Body appears to be original and all round I am over the moon to finally have one, condition is really lovely on it. I am 26 years old and have worked my butt off to get the Jeep and now look forward to the weather improving to get a tonne of use out of her! I re-enact ww2 British airborne and joined the south east wales MVT a few weeks back. You will find me at loads of events relating to both throughout the year.

Here is a pic from a week ago from where I picked it up, was a six hour drive each way pulling her back on a trailer!

very nice jeep! always nice 2 have a small green left hand drive military vehicle around .......!!!!
  2. thank you for interesting info, try look for beetles parts,

and what is woody canadien jeep? I never see?

    Tom higgis

its a wartime jeep fitted postwar ,by specialist jeep dealers, like metamet uk with a wooden > woodie < estate body, and the canadien had a tailgate and only three doors, one drivers side, two on passenger side, unusual and very useful !
  3. hi ron ,

this holder for two plugs is very interesting!

But im with out this part.....

I see first time position for this holder.

    Tom

tom, a great interesting thread ,those s/plug holders are an extra on the classic beetles 50 s / 60 s now being repro ed so maybe try some vintage beetle shops ? Keep doing your great work....i traded my tilly many moons ago to tony oliver for a woody canadien jeep....!
  4.

Your problem is that there are a lot of Mks, both British and Indian, not a single 'thread', production was moved to India mid-WW2 and very few were used in Western Theatres. Getting an authentic configuration will be a challenge, although if you're interested in a con job then its unlikely that anyone knows enough to challenge you! The best example I know is in the NZ Army museum, used on Guadacanal, a little known fact that NZ fought there.
interesting note about nz forces in g/ canal, your right, i bet few people know about this, can u post sum details ? units, vehicles, markings ? a nice important historical snippet, we learn something new every day !
  5. hello

my name is jeff jensen, i live in excelsior,minnesota,u.s.a.. I have been collecting u.s military vehicles for over 30 years.

    I have; 981 diamond t,m9 rogers trailer,ward-lafrance series 5, 969 diamond-t ,m-51 diamond-t dump,m-62 ihc wrecker.

Two wwii chevrolet's 1-1/2 ton conventional's and one coe (its the only complete coe i have seen) , m211, dodges; 1/2,3/4,1-1/2 ton, two m2 halftracks, m29 weasel, trailer's and generator sets.

I am a retired heavy equipment mechanic/operator,most of my work life was at a dredging company with cranes and backhoes on barges in the summer and on the ice in the winter, i have driven 1000,s of piling, hauled and put in place 1000,s of tons of rip-rap,rock, and dredged 1000's of yards and 1000's of hours welding it makes me tired just thinking about it but i still help out every now and then because it is very hard to find people to do this job these days.

I have my own shop that you will find me there 7 days a week, spring, summer, fall. Winter i shut the door and hang around the wood stove,it is -13 here today with wind chill around -30. I will work on rebuilding engines, starts, generators or what ever i can get down the stairs in the bunker.

I never went to school to learn how to operate or repair all this stuff, my father was a mechanic his whole life and some must have rubbed off on me,he worked for the local power company as head mechanic but on the side owned and operated speed boats at a amusement park that was here in town on the lake, he had 5-7 beautiful chris-crafts and hackers. I remember riding then when i was very young,my job was the shift lever. In the mid 60's he bought a marina,

guess who got put to work, pumping gas, caulking, painting, replacing planks, repairing docks. Sold the marina in 1974.

So then joined the navy, got out in june of 1977. So that's when i went to work for the dredging company and started hauling these old trucks home.

I have been married to my wife renee for 34 years and have 3 sons all in there 30's.

    Jeff jensen

welcome! Thats a nice solid introduction !
  6. at last I got my age document from the Munga club in Germany...two of my cars were ex lord carringtons...only last year after nearly 50 years the DVLA decided they did not believe the age of them and wanted to tax them as 4x4's at 400 odd quid, not free. SO I had to get them aged, they have hounded me with letters and phone calls...its taken me over a year of emails and letters and hassle to get the age letter and I am looking forward to telling the DVLA where to stick it.

Its ridiculous that this department has so many draconian powers to annoy and iritiate. What they say goes and it is not right. They justify their jobs by intoducing yet more legislation to annoy iritate and force people to do ever more documentation knowing that by not doing it they can fine people...which they do regularly to increase revenue to justify their jobs, a circle of life for them alone...

    whinge over DVLA

now youve had a small victory over the dvla, why dont u post sum pictures of your munga ?

And what do you do for a living............

    Dont be Shy ;)

buy and sell rare records from all over the world, and i have to go and get them sometimes turkey, india, russia etc......and old jukeboxes also.....!
  9. It's Spare Parts Catalogue 90/4, Auto Union Munga, published April 1967.

It covers Munga 4, 6 & 8 - very useful. I find that a comprehensive parts catalogue is often more use than a workshop manual, when it comes to showing what goes where.

I bought it on ebay a couple of years ago, can't remember exactly how much but it came from Germany.

Parts are named in English and German.

    John

nice one john! thanks for the info, i will be searching now !!
  10. I tried to take a photo of the linkage, but it's so far down on the bulkhead and below the coils that you can't really see it - sorry, I'm not about to start a strip-down right now!:-(

There appear to be three gaskets, one each side of an insulating plate below the fuel drain plate and one between that plate and the carb. All three have the same part number.

    Hope this helps.

    John

john, whats the number of that parts book.....i need to get one ! ....any idea s ??

  12. thanks john thats a great help ! yes a photo would be good too! also do u have illus. of the way the carb sits on ,i have the metal base with the upright tube but it shows that a gasket has been fitted under it as well as on top...so whats the order it all fits together? > confused of london < cheers !!

  13. i traced a fuel blockage on my military munga 4 to a round dome-shaped metal fitting at the electric fuel. It allows for the joining of the 2 fuel supply lines from the tank into the fuel pump. It is referred to in one manual as "diaphragm, reserve valve". I removed it to investigate the blockage: Even after cleaning i could not blow through it but could force air through it with a compressed ai ar line. I may have freed something up since the munga runs now.

My question: How freely should fuel pass through this unit. In addition why are there 2 fuel supply lines except for the necessity of a second line for the hand primer pump?

My munga was one of many sold by the german army in the early 1980's from their training exercises at canadian forces base shilo in manitoba, canada.

hope u got your problem sorted, i also have a munga and i have a problem, not uncommon with these vehicles....! I have the foot accelerator, but nothing else between that and the carb.....would u have any clear photo s / drawings / diagrams to show whats missing and how it all connects up , from acc. Pedal to carb....... So i can get it running......hopefully ! Be grateful for any help u can give me......thanks
