1. Hi All. Just a quick message to say hello and introduce myself. After many years of considering the acquisition of a military vehicle and wanting something armoured and street legal, I have recently purchased MK2/3 Ferret, 00DC75. Needs some work but is all there and running. Look forward to the adventure ahead and sharing stories. Served in the Canadian Navy back in the mid 80's...Mar Eng Tech (Stoker).

welcome ! very nice vehicle !!
2. here’s my dilemma;

i recently purchased a ’59 ferret scout car mk1 from the uk – the purchase was made in memory of my dad who passed away in torquay, devon on june 30th, 2013 in my arms (terminal cancer). The ferret scout car was the last vehicle we spoke about – he was a “petrol head” too and was also in the military and i am a nut about roll-royce so we thought this was the perfect fit.

Dad was a royal warrant officer in the air training corp in the later part of his life, but was in the r.e.m.e. After he left school as a young lad. My dilemma is that i do not have any history about his r.e.m.e. Life – he never spoke much about his childhood or life prior to marring my mum. So, as i have no history on his r.e.m.e. Days and/or his serial number etc…, should i go ahead and add his markings as a w.o. Name/serial no. To the ferret in his memory…?

(he held the rank of royal warrant officer and i have his full uniform and serial number and history)

did the r.a.f. Ever use ferret scout cars…?

The ferret currently has no markings at all, just the recent repaint in black/green camouflage.

I guess i should not care as this was purchased in his memory and some would say, you can do what you want as you own it, but i would like to be politically correct although living now in orlando, florida, i doubt too many people are going to rag on me.

thank you all for your “sincere input”.cheers…simon

thats a great gesture, im sure your dad will be proud whatever you decide....and do a history board when you show it, so people know its a tribute to your dad...all the best and post some pictures !

5. hello all

thanks for the acceptance of membership to the site. I am the owner of two dkw auto union mungas models 4 & 8 both which have given me much pleasure and a lot of pain at times. Previously owned an austin k9 but when it came to repairs changing wheels and tyres became a bit to much especially when working on your own in quiet locations. I look forward to communicating with other dkw owners who i may be able to assist or have their experience to assist me.best wishes to you all.

Colin:)

a big welcome from another crazy munga owner !! Where are you based ?
6. it's amazing what you can find on ebay.. I did a search on the queens royal west surrey regiment, and to my amazement there's a picture of grandad , no doubt about it, it's him...( arrowed ). All for 99p. There's no date on the back, but it seems to be 1917 / 1918 .. He was wounded, we think by gas , then went to the labour corps and then the rfc at thetford in we think 1918.

Great piece of family history. Picture now sits in a cabinet made by him in the 1920s. Over the moon :D

what a wonderful lovely find ! Beautiful !

7. Hello all,

Let me give a quick introduction, my name is Sjoerd and i live and work in the Netherlands.

Got a passion for all things historical and mechanical for as long as i can remember, i 've concentrated my passion on ww2 and am currently in the possesion of 2 DKW prewar motorcycles from which one is currently in restoration next to my wives 1959 DKW moped.

Currently i am looking for a wartime Bedford MW truck to fulfill a long time wish.

If someone knows a nice truck for sale, please let me know.

If there are any questions i will be glad to answer them,

For now, all the best from the Netherlands,

Sjoerd van de Wal

welcome ! can u post sum pictures ?
8. there's a great film and for the life of me i can't remember it so i am throwing it out there to see if anyone can help - it goes like this....

Based on the build up to d-day. Had the guy from la law in it. He was kidnapped (i think by the bosch) and he awoke in a hospital - american one i think. Them there bad jerrys tried to make out they were americans and made out that d-day had happened and tried to get him to talk about the plans for d-day - not sure if he was bigot or not.

Does anyone know what on earth the film was????

yes a clever and entertaining film.....starred james garner and eva maria saint....now was it called....24 hours?....or 3 days ? Not sure.. But i hope someone can help......!
9. Does anybody know of any HMV friendly mechanics/recovery companies in the East Dartmoor area??

My SUMB has been neglected this winter (A mistake I wont make again) and needs to be moved ASAP but isn't starting.

Mechanics isn't my strong point (In fact I'm not sure what is) but I've checked the obvious plugs, battery, fuel.

I have a deadline to finish some cosmetic work on it but the SUMB is currently touching against a Bedford TK proving this impossible.

i find its always handy to have AA or RAC backup especially with homestart, when you've got older vehicles, been with both in the past when ive had classic cars and they have always come thru for me....a good investment !
