  1. A long time a ago I was offered this rather sad looking tank transporter. It ended its working life as a snow plough for a west country borough council. I tried to go and see it but before I could it was apparently sold anyone know what happened to it?

When is was used as a snow plough, as the top speed is only 15 mph would the snow not fall faster behind it than it was being cleared in front of it?:shake::-D:-D:-D

  2. A.E.C Militant mk1 winch tractor ,Boughton 533f/s winch ex Fowler challenger .Land anchor ex land drainage machine . Winch sub frame ex Wetherhill loading shovel chassis . 3. pioneer....Explorer i did'nt think there was a comparison!!:cool2:

There is no comparison the Pioneer with no power assisted steering ,no door tops , and hand operated crane winch is a real mans motor and must not be confused with the Explorer with all its post war modifications, whatever were they thinking trying to make a national servicemans life easier.

  4. Driffield, that will be the road run the Police marshalled, and directed where to park then!

I seem to remember the road ahead was completely blocked with staionary steam engines, in which case the Douglas wasn't parked. it was just waiting for queued traffic to clear!

Thanks for clearing that one up mike , i didnt think for one minute that Wincher Fincher would ever fall foul of mr plod:stop:please accept my sincere apoligies and now that the Antar is back on the road (well done) dont run me over with it at Rushden Cavalcade.:shake::shake:

  5. I must stop lending my Douglas out......... I don't see a picture of the drivers face, so I can say with all confidence, "It wasn't me , Officer"

And were the yellow lines unbroken and properly terminated? ... and isn't that Rushden High Street anyway, which is a one way street?????

According to the magazine article(POLICE WANTED VEHICLES WEEKLY) it was taken in Driffield town centre the owner being recorded as Nick Finch .?

  6. This is the Duxford Militant. She's known as Nellie. Nellie was used by a Circus to help with their elephant, but the elephant died and the militant found a new home at the museum. She's named after the elephant.

Nellie is a working vehicle and is used all over the museum. She's the society's baby, and gets lots of attention. She's also used for driver training, and this photo was taken when I learned how to drive her. I want one for home now.... :)

I think they use it for clearing all the major TRUNK routes around the airfield!!

  7. In the posting by Amazon Joe #241 A very good use of it capabilities , the Cat must weigh between nine and ten tons . no idea of the second bulldozers weight

The cat weighs around 10 tons .we loaded it using the scammells winch with a snatch block 2 to 1 ratio as the cat slips on the steel ramps . Scammell weighs 10 ton ,cat weighs 10 ton ,trailer weighs 41/2 ton 24 ton gross weight . Only 102 BHP but still managed to get into top gear and reached almost 24 mph at one point! Scammell was used by Royal Engineers in Palestine 1947 to move engineering supplies and plant still doing the same job 62 years later .SCAMMELL THE LEGEND LIVES ON

  8. Well done Nick, we told you it was quite simple even with the dog helping. If the valves are not recessed you will have to remove them to re-face the heads, and if the heads are not dowel located use a straight edge or bolt the manifolds on to ensure the heads are in line. Torque it down, warm it up then re-torque + re-set valve clearances.

PS It is a MEADOWS, as in Henry Meadows who were just down the road from Guy Motors in Fallings Park, Wolverhamton where some of the 4x2 Crusaders were built.:coffee:

My fathers scammell crusader VBV663V Ex B.R.S 4x2 tractor unit was built by GUY Motors in wolverhampton the chassis no was prefix GHV for Guy heavy vehicle instead of the WHV for Watford heavy vehicle.

  9. A couple of pics of 'Herman', Q807 HNG owned at the time and probably still owned by Malcolm Bowles of Southery, Norfolk. Gardner 6LW powered and the reason I am now a Scammell ower! He let me take it for a (slow) spin around his yard aged about 12 and that as they say, was that! I knew this one for a long time and I think it had two rebuilds during it's hard working life.

Herman started off life as a R100 GUN TRACTOR built around 1943 it has a rebuild plate on the engine in german from its days with B.A.O.R so this probably explains the name.
