  1. I would of course be interested in the bits you refer to , and I now need a Radiator as some bar steward has helped himself to the rad from my fathers home whilst he was in hospital. Nice chaps. anyway, please let me know what you have, and if anyone sees a Humber radiator before it goes in the pot please let me know.
  2. thanks Paul and Jules. There are at least two other people restoring a Heavy Utility at present so it does make sense to get these things done at the same time. Jules, have you a spare steering wheel by any chance? Paul, I am going to call you next week for a chat if thats ok. i hope your number is on your website. Many thanks, together we can get these lovely vehicles back on the road. Andrew
  3. Ahem, I am in need ot Humber Box parts as well. Steering wheel, door fittings, wings, ...well to be honest anything you have may be of interest. Please let me know thanks.
  4. superb effort. I am so pleased there are guys still doing these restorations Years ago, well the 70s the only opportunity you had to get a Jimmy or Chev was to find one and restore it. Then all the vehicles came out of the reserve stocks in Europe and I reckon a lot of rough UK based restorations just got scrapped. We still have a 6x6 hard cab GMC ex lime spreader to restore. Not sure it will be worth doing but there again its better than your Chev. By the way, whats the real differences with the GMC vs Chev. keep it up. Great work.
  5. hi John, Good advice, but unfortunately it collapsed in a big heap when we took it home, so we really do need it to be built along side another with better patterns. Its a bit depressing, it can be done, but what an expense! We did do one about 20 years ago, but it was much better and of course we wish we had never sold it now!
  6. thanks I would like to see the photo. There were three at the time we bought ours. I also bought my International M5 from them with a full REME folding A frame and raised rear body on. Took that one around Normandy in 1984 at 5.5 mpg. Dont think I could afford that now!
  7. thanks, another very good idea. I will have to take some big mates with me as even taking the wheels off and on will be a big job! ah well, what the heck, it has to be done. Of course, it may well be only one or two wheels that are stuck which will help matter greatly. I need to try to take a couple of days off to sort this and then I can start to think about how I am going to tell my better half that we may be receiving a new house guest!
  8. well thanks Guys, a few ideas here. I recall that we managed to pull the front shackle out once before when we moved it , so I think I would have to put something around the axle. I do have one of those adjustable US, I think Jimmy, tow bars with chains to go around the axle so that may be the tool we need. Trying to do any of the above work where the Duck is at the moment will be hard as there is no electricity on site. It would be good to get it out first. The history is that it is ex Army , British and we bought it from Crook Brothers in as I said about 1978 ish from memory. It was a lot better when we got it! It will need quite a bit of welding but my guess is that any unrestored Dukw that had been floated would need much the same as the slat doesnt stop working away. its fitted with an A Frame which i think make it one of a few as they didnt all have them. I need to get the UK serial number and chassis number to check out more details on year of manufacture etc. I would dearly love to get this restored but its a major project and the welding alone would cost a fortune.
  9. the DUKW is in Shropshire but it will be moved to Kent once I can roll it! I have one suggestion of cutting the wheel cylinders out which sounds a bit severe if you are not good with the plazma cutter! There must be an easy way! I guess it may mean taking each wheel off and removing the hubs. I wonder how you get the hubs off it they are seized on. May be some sort of hub extractor thanks for the offer of help , where are you based?
  10. My Dad bought a DUKW in about 1978 an its been sat in his shed for too long. Its now time to get it out and do something with it, I would like to restore it. unfortunately the brakes are set solid and I cannot move it. I assume the shoes have expanded with the damp and locked up. Now even getting the wheels off and the drums off seized on shoes will be a monster job before I start the strip down. Can anyone offer any quick fixes? I cant think of any myself
  11. thanks for the reponse. I am aware of Lex's efforts but thought by posting here I may expand beyond the main biker boys on the M20 forum. Given that all the bikes by late 1944 were supposed to be built with these filters fixed, I feel sure there a lot sitting out there somewhere! I will keep looking and maybe one will turn up.
  12. hi Guys, not been on this thread before but was just wondering whether anyone can help me with the supply of an aluminium elbow which fits on the AMAL pre monbloc carburettor and connects to the pipe up to the Vokes filter unit. I have some photos if you are not sure what it looks like please pm me. Would be grateful of some help finding this part. thanks
  13. I am just about to stencil up my BSA M20 and need to find out the colour codes or names for the Paratroop Regiments famous Pegasus Horse. Its a blue on a deep red/claret. Can anyone help who has done this?
  14. i am certainly interested in the section Y photos. I have tried Phil but he has not responded to the e mail as yet. may be I did not have the correct address, perhaps you could pm me again? Not so keen on brixmis just because its a 1942 vehicle and as my father is a wartime vet himself it would be our focus to record its history and usage during the 39-45 years. thanks once again
  15. here is a link to some more photos for those interested. http://s714.photobucket.com/albums/ww149/vanquishspirit/Humber/
  16. where abouts in the world was that taken? We had one about 1984 that looked like that one, from Somerset or Dorset from memory?
  17. how exciting! The rear cover us missing and the spline is sticking out with the drive shaft on the floor. How would we tell for sure?
  18. Its time for a stupid question. The vehicle is about 260 miles from me right now so I cannot pop along to take a look , but the back of the geabox or transfer box has a shaft with a drive output showing above the main propshaft for the rear. Anyone know what it is? It also has full screened igntion as per the Armoured Cars?
  19. sadly the old chap decided to pull it apart to restore it. He dumped the doors and the B pillars and other wood in the brambles on the ground and they just rotted away. this could have been so much better if he had not done that. Shame
  20. thanks once again for the words of encouragement. It will most definitely be the hardest restoration we have undertaken if we are sucessful with it. It doable I know, and there are one or two of these around I can use for patterns. Its just knowing where to start and once its underway I am sure we will feel better. I will try to post photos as we take them and keep the thread going. thx
  21. thanks Guys. Very helpful comments and encouragments. To be honest we have been tracking this Box for over 20 years and when I saw it back then it was all complete and inside a shed. Sadly the old chap who had it, moved house and slightly lost the plot. He has owned it for years and was reluctant to let it go, but now he finally decided he has let it deteriorate to such an extent the work now required is immense. The problem is that to do the job correctly one would rebuild the body on the chassis but since so little of the body is still standing and the mounting brackets are pretty rough I feel really we need to remove everything off the chassis , restore that and the bulkhead and then start again. I am currently having a difference of opinion with the master of works, my father who favours rebuilding it on the chassis and then take it off the chassis when done to restore that. That would be feasible if the bulkhead was good, but its not! Ah well, I am sure we will work it out. Once thing that is good is the chassis and all the suspension and running gear so we could get that all done and then we would feel we were making headway. I will talk with Clive and see what his thoughts are. thx once again and as we progress I will post some more photos. Normandy 2014???
  22. I have just purchased a Humber Heavy Utiltity for restoration, and I mean restoration! Does anyone have any body parts or know of any drawings that may have been done? All of the wood will need rebuilding and most of the front bulkhead. Am also after some 9.00x16 British Track Grips for the old girl. In fact anything could be of interest
  23. My father owns a complete but unrestored Morris Commercial with Wireless Body 15cwt. I dont think it has a grills on the side of the body . I will try to get some photos to post.
  24. Guys, some while ago I met a chap who owned an Austin K5 GS with "Winnie the Poo" painted on the radiator shroud. I wanted to contact him and have misplaced his contact details. Does anyone know who i am talking about. please can you pm me or e mail me at andrew.honychurch@btinternet.com? thx a lot
