Tony B
My intrest has been piqued by a picture in the latest C.I.O.S. Review of Train Ferry No1 leaving Jersey just prior to Occupation carrying a number of RAF vehicles, I'm trying to get permission to post picture here. So far all I can find out is that the War Department had three ferries built in 1917 to serve the port of La Havre. After the Great War the ships were laid up, then went into commercial service and were requisitoned in 1939 Subsequently being renamed No1 as Princess Iris No 3 as Daffodil. Daffodil was converted to a landing ship and lost off Dieppe, were she can still be dived on. Princes Iris survived and went back to civillian service as SS Essex Ferry. I'd like to find out more about them. Can anybody suggest were to go looking?
