  1. Yes, this has been driving me nuts for ages! Can anyone please put me out of my/your misery and identify the type of thread used that is found in the framework of the workshop? (see attached pic) It looks like M8 but isn't...I have just been told yesterday it is 5/16 UNF so went to my local 'JR Webster's and they tried same and it isn't that either? It has been suggested I re tap to M8. Thanks in advance Gaz
  2. Here are a few pics....Mine is a '94 Cummins 6B 313 Euro II with a Bosch injector pump
  3. Hi Tony.. Got to admit these push fittings are great when there is not much access for spanners etc but at least olives don't perish! Have tried your suggestion to pressurize the tank and it worked! Pumped diesel in and out of the sedimenter (certainly saves taking the cup off and filling it by hand!) and connected the pipe and plastic can and got fuel running into that fine! Re connected pipe from sedimenter to fuel pump and cracked 4 of the injector feeds and pressurized tank again..and got fuel out of 3 of the 4 I cracked...But still having trouble with getting any pressure while pumping the lever to bleed system?... At least I know there is no blockage from tank to pump now! I had a word with our works fork/clamp truck mechanic and he agreed that there may be a problem with the pump (diaphragm) or the solenoid fuel shut off valve is stuck in the 'fuel off' position. He suggested someone get in cab and switch ignition on (not crank) and I listen for the valve to click...he said I will have no problem hearing it! Am working for the next 2 days so will order a new fuel pump from X-Mod, at £36+shipping, it's not worth messing about with a repair kit... Just hope it not the stop solenoid as it looks like the injector pump has to come off first! Thanks for your time chaps! Gaz
  4. Hi m109a3uk!, that's very interesting info about the brass fittings! I went to a few local firms who deal with this stuff and no one could tell me if there was an 'O' ring inside or not! Cheers! Gaz
  5. BTW, have ordered a new sedimentor to replace the one I broke, from X-Mod! It's the clear body one and going by the pics, my original one didn't have any internal bits!
  6. Hi John, will see if I can get the door fully open with the wall where it is (It's right up against it!) and, have already been warned about easy start on here! Cheers and thanks! Gaz
  7. Hi Tony, now the airline option I can have a go at! Got a compressor and enough hose to reach the street! The only thing I can find is, it says in the drivers 'manual' to press accelerator pedal and keep it to the floor when starting... I think what I'll do tomorrow is crack the banjo's on all the injectors while priming, and then give it a whirl! Many thanks! Gaz
  8. Thanks John and Tony! There is one small problem with trying this option.. Unless I can rig up a remote starter cable/switch!
  9. Thanks for the reply John, it looks like I will have to give that a go! Cheers!
  10. Hi! I have now bypassed the fuel tank in case there is a blockage stopping fuel getting to the pump.... At least have found fuel pump is ok, it now primes with some resistance on the lever.....however, the fitting on the return pipe (flexy to steel pipe) starts to leak when I'm priming it....Traced flexy pipe up to a 1/8" pipe just under cylinder head...this is fed by a 'T' piece from 2 places, 1, from leak off on the injectors and 2, from the top of the lift pump. Does the fuel cut off solenoid valve (electric) bypass the fuel from the lift pump/injectors and back to the fuel tank? If this is the case, it would explain the starting problem! If it is stuck in its 'stop position' where do I go from here? TIA Gaz....
  11. Now I've broken it! Re discussion in my introduction thread.... I should have put my 'little prob' on here first I think! Had lots of input up to latest attempt yesterday, so any advice most welcome! "Only prob I have had with the truck is replacing the plastic fuel pipe feed from tank to sedimenter as it was leaking slightly, so I ordered the pipe and fitting from XMod, drained the tank (55ltrs, I nearly ran out of cans!) and fitted new pipe and fitting no prob, once I'd borrowed a 1/2" AF spanner from Brian next door! Started it up and it ran ok till I switched off..Then a week later, on the day before it was due to be MOT'd, it wouldn't start! It must have ran on the fuel in the pipes feeding the injectors...I have bled the system a few times now, but will it fire up!! I used easystart as recommended by the chap MOT'ing it, will run on that stuff but not drawing fuel through to run on diesel? Any suggestions most welcome!" Here's an update..... had another go today, traced 'engine stop device cable' to here and gave it a squirt and worked the lever a bit... Then had a look in the parts manual and there is also a solenoid valve (Like my Defender) So why is there a manual fuel cut out and an electrical one? Then started bleeding and pumping manual pump lever.... I noticed on priming that there wasn't any resistance? with no joy apart from ending up with this.... only tiny bubbles came out of bleed screw, no fuel.... So I thought I might have drained sedimenter bowl on previous attempts so I undid that and it was still full, And mention now that there is 50lts+ in the tank.... I then tightened up bowl and this happened.... Its like a bl***y comedy sketch isn't it? I will take the 2 pipes off the sedimenter body and just join them for now, until I get the 'Lovely thing' going again! Gaz (smelling of 'lovely' diesel!)
  12. Welcome Roger! Your jeep looks just great!

  14. Hi Chopa, will try and trace the cable back from the cab to the engine asap! Thanks for your help lads!
  15. Hi Chopa! Been trying for 2-3 days....even checked sedimenter pot was full.... I have just found Engine stop device in parts manual page 198 (just in case it's stuck open) and cant find any ref to what or where its connected to? Thanks
  16. Hi Mash, and thanks for that advice! Never had any trouble starting the truck before I swapped the pipe and cured the leak etc...Always started on the button! Do you mean the 'pull to stop' knob on the centre console? I thought that decompressed the pressure in the head? (like a stacker truck)....
  17. Have been lurking for a few months on here, soaking up the fab info.... My name is Gaz, 59 yrs young and just upgraded from a Defender 110 wildcamper, which I have owned for the last 17 yrs, to a Daf T244/GS with Comms box on the back..(Big muthers aren't they? Hope the crack on my drive doesn't get any worse lol!) I bought it from a nice chap in Kent in March and have slowly been stripping out the box...it already had the necessary gear in the back for motorhome registration but it wasn't the layout I had in mind! It is registered as a Private HGV and downrated to 7.5T, and its only done 14,000 miles so all is good with the truck AFAIK! Biggest task so far was removing the fiberglass box from the rear R/H side.(presumably for a Genny?) The certainly make them solid don't they? I could not get the chisel/grinder to all of the rivets holding the frame to the floor! My plan for this vehicle (aka 'Plan B') is to convert it into an Overlander, self sufficient for a couple of weeks at least, and travel the Highlands, Skye,Lewis and Harris etc..also some shows too, have enjoyed the War & Peace show twice, a few years ago but have heard its got a bit 'rowdy' now...Also would love to do the Normandy trip again... Not really interested in going any further afield as plenty to do in Blighty! Only prob I have had with the truck is replacing the plastic fuel pipe feed from tank to sedimenter as it was leaking slightly, so I ordered the pipe and fitting from XMod, drained the tank (55ltrs, I nearly ran out of cans!) and fitted new pipe and fitting no prob, once I'd borrowed a 1/2" AF spanner from Brian next door! Am hoping to get to the Adventure Overland show in sept this year! Cheers Gaz (From Cheshire forgot to say...)
