  1. Hello Dave,

Just had a quick look in the manuals I have for the 432, but it tells you everything bar the cc. Had a look on my registration certificate (V5) and it says 6.4litres. :undecided: I had to give DVLA this info when i registered it, but can't remember where i found the info.

  2. Hello All,

I know this subject is more tracked section related, but this question may need the masses! I have been looking for a penthouse for my FV432. I have been offered one, but I would just like to make sure it is the correct. I have been told the NSN No is 8340-99-798-0307 J.S.F 2001, or the first part of the No may start 8310! Is there any way anyone one can confirm this is the correct canvas, or let me know where I could find out. I would also be interested in finding the No. for the side penthouse for the BDR trailers.

    Thanks in advance

  3. "Plains, Cranes & Automobiles"

    It's raining, it's pouring, it's hailing

"No tracks allowed", the word was out,

    Were May '08 Plains ailing?

Not a chance, they would advance

    To gather all as planned

It's better wet, more filthy they get

    They'll have the upper hand.

And so they came from far and wide

    United in their mission

To have some fun, it must be done

    No fashion exhibition!

Across the Plains they convoyed out

    An awesome sight to see

Their pride and joy on full deploy

    Impressive unity.

And that is what it's all about

    Support, comraderie

If you should stall, you will not fall

We'll get you back for tea.

Chef Ives in charge behind the griddle

He would not let us starve

    Gourmet stew and brekkie too

He don't do things by halves!

The Bustard Inn would be the place

    To battle for a prize

Hit nine pins, the teams that wins

    Welsh Warriors fantasize!

    Awake, awake the morning breaks

    Engines fired for action

    Time to play, convoy away

    Muddy satisfaction!

As all good things come to an end

    Well done Tony & crew

    A fabulous time, here's to '09

To you all, a big THANK YOU!

  4. Hello All,

That's it we can finally sit down & look at at our pics, hooray for digi cameras!!! Mez has nearly got the Plains out of her friends cool bags that she borrowed for the weekend, well i didn't know that when I went through that little puddle we would get swamped on the inside, I don't think we are the only ones with the inside of the veh as dirty as outside, mind you the outside is pretty dirty!!!! Had a few odd looks on the way home!!

Thanks to everyone involved in making this another very memorable weekend, especially Tony & his team, and David Ives for all their hard work.

Sorry Darren for ending up on the losing skittles team, but stick with us, we're an up & coming team, the trophy is within our grasp.

  5. Hello All,

I know the website hasn't progressed at all, so much going on. But I did get my lightweight ready for the Plains trip which was fantastic. Still trying to have my internet training, hopefully next couple weeks, please be patient.

  6. Hello All

Haven't had my internet training yet, so no progress yet. Yes Mark I do intend having a register. And the other site does seem to be stagnant at the mo. Which is a shame, I do think there is a need for an active site, hence why I'm going to try! Thanks for the encouragement Tony, I am looking forward to getting it off the ground. Just like everybody else, there just isn't enough hours in a day. Haven't even seen my 432 this year yet!!!! Bob Griffin, now that name sounds familiar, hasn't he written books on vehicles, never seen one for 432s yet. hint!

  7. Hello All,

Just a thought, as you've mention the black out lights, if your looking for the other end of the interior lights wiring, is it possible that it is linked into a switch on the back door so that when it is opened it turns off all interior lighting. There is something similar on my 432, but i'm sure it relies on a combination of dash switches as well.

    Keep up the good work

  8. Hello All,

I think it is about time I get myself into gear. All being well I will be bringing the 432 along in 2008. It all hangs on me getting the lorry and lowloader through it's MOT in the April, already know lorry has a broken front road spring and the exhaust needs some loving, oh the joys of owning such toys. But going by what sounds like is a weekend not to be missed and if 2007 was anything to go by, it will be well worth the effort.

Thank you to Tony and his crew for 2007 and for all the hard work they have already put in for 2008.

And don't forget Dave let me know when you want to do the starter on the 434, don't struggle on your own.

  9. Hello All,

Just would like you all to know that in the new year, I'm planning on producing a website for 432s. If anyone has any pictures, information or ideas, they would be gladly received.

One small problem is that I don't know how to make one yet, but that's where Dave C's Dad Pete comes into effect. He has registered the site in my name, we just need to get him to teach me how to get it off the ground, then we'll be away. I have lots of ideas and plans to make it as informative and interesting as possible.

By the way, the site is http://www.fv432.co.uk

And if nobody has any objections I would like to put links to sites like here and plain military.

    Thanks in advance

  10. Hello everybody,

Well I guess it has been stacked against me. Really wanted to go this year. If the school holidays didn't clash with the show I would be there now with my boy and the 432. but he didn't finish school till yesterday and as we can't spare any extra time off work to look after him, as they have so many holidays though out the year. Does anybody have the same problem???

Then yesterday the heavens open, and instead of a 432 I should have invested in a boat, at least I could have got to the house. I was all geared up to go along to W&P this weekend then somebody at work came back in from road test in the afternoon and said the main road was flooded, and I knew it didn't sound good, got home to find the water just creeping in the house. For the next 3 hours spent digging trenches to get the water away, but wasn't enough, my nice new wood flooring that I put down last week, has all got to come back up. And my friend in Tewkesbury, she couldn't get home till this morning to find over a foot inside her house. Went over there and theres nothing you can do, it all ruined downstairs, water slowly going, just got wait for the looters to wreck it now.

W&P maybe next year (if they move it a week)

  11. Hello All,

Going to take my fv432 and lightweight up on Wednesday evening, drop them of and go and get Dave C's sultan and one of his landrovers and drop them off. Hopefully you shouldn't miss us as we should be a mass of aerials as we have a commmand communications thing going on. And hopefully DaveP's tracked rapier will be with us, (will get round to phoning you soon Dave, promise).

Did somebody mention Birdlip hill, not looking forward to that after my struggle up it on the way to Salisbury Plain the other week.

  12. Hello All,

I have finially come round from the Salisbury trip and I think I've got all the dust out my hair now. It has prompted me to get back posting, so I can thank Tony, Jack and everybody involved in making the weekend happen. And a special thanks to Yogi, for letting Ally use your car to follow us about. (by the way, she says sorry as she thinks she didn't move seat back, I know how annoying that is). but thanks again. As of Saturday, we nearly didn't make it. I had my boy for the day, and did want to take him, but thought it was going to be to rough for him as he is still a bit small. We didn't set of till late. Then when we set off the lights played up on the lorry, but managed to get round that. We were then on the M5 and the lorry just didn't seem to want to go. we pulled up on the hard shoulder, had quick look, and made the decision to carry on even though we had the infamous Crickley Hill to get up. well we went for it and yes the worst did happen, we ran out of gears, we could have walked faster, but the Daf kept going. It would die then we would pick up a bit. But we made it to the top. We had make a choice of heading straight back down and go home and cut our losses, or head up another bank and get to a layby. Don't know why but we still went for it and made to the view point at Birdlip. Fair play at nearly midnight their was an awful amount of activty at this site, dread to think what was going on up there. So didn't hang around, cab went up and I changed the fuel filter, bled it up, and we were gone. And we were off, the Daf was flying, we got to Salisbury about 2am. Parked up in layby down the road from the meeting place and crashed out. 7am soon came round and we made our to the camp for 8. The butties in the pub for brekkie were very welcome, even the dog got a couple of rashers of bacon and a sausage (thanks Roy). Once we were off on the trip, full of apprehension that the 432 was going to break down within the first mile, but it turned out to be a very enjoyable day, the 432 preformed well and it was a fantastic experience. Shame we had to go home, but I think it was gone 11 when we did. But the trip was well worth the effort, and I even managed to see Stonehenge for the first time(mind you I thought it was bigger).

And I've nothing all day today. What a weekend.

    Roll on next year!!!

  13. Hello Mike,

Just a thought, have you got free play on your clutch pedal. By this I mean that when you start to depress the clutch the first half inch will feel like it's doing nothing then you will then feel the pedal doing something. If you haven't got this free play the clutch system can "hydraulic" meaning that at each operation of the pedal the clutch will hold on until eventually it will slip because the pressure can't release. To give yourself some freeplay shorten the master cylinder pushrod until it's free. Hope this makes sense and helps, if not I'm sure someone else can explain it better.

  14. Hello All,

At the beginning of the year, I wasn't to bothered about going. But as the show has got closer, I thought yes I'm going. This year is the first year we have had accomidate school holidays, so I booked the first week of so the boy and I could bring our Fv432 along. It wasn't until I was filling in the booking form, that to my horror, we can't go, he's still at school the week of Beltring, I've booked the week after, which is the first week of the holidays. This will be the first time I will miss in about 6 years.

Make sure you all have a great time, and hopefully if they have to change venues because the site is apparently sold they can change the week at the same time

  15. Hi Berni,

Nice to have met you at the show at Cam. What is the earliest acess to the Nibley show, is possible to set up the caravan earlier in the week as I am bringing my son and have found that when I get somewhere with the lorry and him I've got to feed him and get him to bed as he's only 5 and if the caravan was already set up my life would be so much easier, actually how early in the week can I get the fv432 there?

  16. Hello All,

You don't have to wait till Thursday to find out how the RL got out, I ended up pulling it out with my fv432, I also helped rescue I think another 2 RLs and a Commer and the lorry from the Beer tent. Unfortunatly I didn't get any pics of us in action, this is just after parked up next to my caravan in the camping field.

This is where I dragged the RL in Berni's pic from

Shame the show had the makings of being successful but the weather just didn't let up. The fields were left in a mess and I had abandon my caravan, which I went and collected tonight and there are still vehicles left in the field.

Must admit I had a lot of fun though, not every day you get to play.

Mind you I'm still looking for volunteers to clean the running gear, everybody I ask changes the subject.

And yes that is my freshly painted trailer it's on.

  17. Hello All,

Sorry Cara but not sure about your link, just sent me to a log-in page for a forum. Hopefully if I've done this right this should be what I found.

    Hello Richard,

I suppose one of those possibilites could cause the other. If a shackle or chain broke the shift in weight to one side of suspension causing it to collapse and vice-versa. Do you know if they are air suspended trailers.

If you do find the article I find it funny how they've mention the loss of 10litres of fuel, think they missed a couple of zeros, between the vehicles there would have been a 1000litres surely,(would they have anti-spill devices fitted).

  18. Hello All,

Does anyone know more about the Challenger that overturned with it's Oshkosh transporter on Thursday/Friday last week in Dorset. Can only find small article on the BBC news website, they only got one small picture and say it was the recovery version of challenger and it looks like the new type transporter not one of the Elliot and Sergents that where involved when the Sabres fell of on the M1 a year or so ago.

    Regards

  19. Hello All,

Was all geared up to bring my Fv432 to the show, I've Mot'd the tractor unit and lowloader and insured it all. The lowloader is starting to look good for it's repaint, it is nearly all Nato green, but unfortunatly I am struggling to justify spending £400 on fuel to get it there just for one weekend as the money can be spent better elsewhere. This problem is already causing John Pearson's Valetine not to make it to Tankfest this year as I have volunteered the use of my lowloader, but there are no funds for the fuel.

Guess my lightweight will have to get ready to get it's self there instead of having a lift with the 432.

  20. Hello All,

Got a bit more done to the lowloader. Finished rubbing down the right hand side and got a coat of primer on it. Started on one of the ramps and all the top is ready for nato green. Got through another wire wheel and tin of paint.

As you say Richard they should look good when both done in army colours, I had kept pestering the girlfriend last weekend that I had wanted to paint a bit green, when she finially let me we found the paint had gone funny in the tin. Took it back to the paint supplier and they made me another batch no problem, and let me keep the dodgy stuff, might be OK for an undercoat on the wheels? We'll see.

No idea when I will touch it again, as next weekend the boy and I are of to Truckfest in Peterbourgh in the caravan, girlfriend said see might go and do a bit for me. Can see me going to 1st show with multicoloured trailer.

Once it is all done I suppose if I were to change the front grill on the lorry for a Seddon Atkinsen one, it could pass as ex.mod as the SA Stratos they used where basically the same cabs as the Daf 95's and if I remeber right Seddon Atkinson had to buy in Daf built cabs to complete the contract.

    Here's me fixing one

  21. Hello All,

My boy is 5 going on 15. He isn't that bothered about my fv432, he is getting better, doesn't mind the noise so much now and likes climbing over it. prefers the lorry and trying to chain the tank down and likes the camping
