  1. It's a family show with a large military presence to include a mix of steam engines both full size & miniature, vintage & classic cars, motorbikes, commercials, agricultural bygones, trade stalls, fairground along with a decent sized arena. There is also a beer tent, refreshments and entertainment.

We are unique in that we are the only MVT area to now have four genuine restored WW2 Nissen Huts, one complete with piano and pot bellied stove, so if its chilly out you can still have a cosy night in. The Nissen Huts form part of Ashdown Camp which comprises:

    • No. 1 Nissen Hut with British memorabilia

    • No. 2 Nissen Hut, U.S. Army Hospital

    • No. 3 Nissen Hut, Motor Pool & German Quarters

    • No. 4 Nissen Hut, for re-enactors/displays

    • ARP Wardens portable armoured 'Consol' shelter*

    Anderson air raid shelter

    • Barb-wire entanglement

    • Guard hut

    • Radio shack

    • Railway freight box/cars x2*(currently being being restored)

    • Replica German pillbox

    • Searchlights 90cm x2

    • Sentry posts with barriers

    • Stanton Air raid shelter

    • ‘The Cooler’ an ex-British Waterways Diglis Locks WW2 guard shelter

    • Wellington Bobmber wing sections

    • All overlooked by the purposeful looking watch tower

+ Lots of other atmospheric memorabilia

  2. For this trailer (pic below) I found hidden in the long grass in the summer, we finally managed to persuade the owner to sell which was quite handy as it was just up the road at Long Marston airfield.

We intend to mount the 2nd 90cm searchlight and a generator onto it, as we don't have a 150cm searchlight. Not perfect but still makes for an interesing display & will make it easier to move about.

And yes I'll make sure they are on at the next show.

  3. Hello Alex, and welcome to the forum.

If your Jeep is insured with someone like Premium Choice (Roadsure) or Footman James you will be covered for liability at shows, similar to re-enactors insurance.

If you just have a standard policy for social & domestic use you might need to speak with your insurer or change to one of these specialist companies.

Prior to the show in June there is the Easter show on the same site if you are about.

    cheers

    Paul

  4. Recently returned to defrost from what was a great little run.

About 20 people turned up with a few Jeeps, Land Rovers and an Austin Tilly. My daughter and I hitched a ride in a Jeep but as it was only just above freezing she soon deserted me and found a warmer ride in the Tilly. We drove up through Broadway & Snowshill & into the woods near Toddington Railway then back to the nissen for some soup.

Only hiccup was one Jeep with a fuel problem that had to be towed back.

  5. Happy Christmas to you John, its not necessarily too expensive depending on the vehicle you own, a K9 is probably one of the least expensive to own, tax exempt, MOT exempt, just over a hundred to insure and far more comfortable to camp in than a Land Rover / Jeep.

Bodge forgot to say 3rd prize is... pushing Jack's truck

    cheers Paul

  6. I can bring this back on topic with a military connection:

When sailors of old were buried at sea, their bodies were sewn into sail cloth, weighted, and lowered into the sea with the last stitch in the sewing traditionally going through the deceased nose, to make sure the person believed to be deceased was actually dead, as opposed to merely ‘dead drunk’ or sleeping heavily.

Saw this in that recent film Master & Commander.
