Looking good! What bit of the drivetrain is that? I didn't spend long enough looking at mine to figure things out...
-
Ah , what a relief ! I can sleep now ! :-D
Sweat dreams Andy, just don't think too much about the fuel consumption!
-
Morning Duncan, just scanned in this bit from drivers handbook, showing what all the tits and cocks do. Hope you find it useful.
Cheers mate!! I'll be needing that at the weekend, let's hope all my knobs are working... :cool2:
-
For goodness sake! Hayley, please give him some Calpol......and tuck him in..
Poor Andy, I think he was more anxious than I was! Well somehow whilst driving down south I must have driven straight past this going the other way....
I have however found myself in Chester for three nights lighting up some 1000 year old church ruins so I'm going to have to be patient! And maybe sneak out to Anchor supplies or Withams during the day today :cool2:
Can't wait to have a play with her on Sunday, and get the new canvas tarps onto her...
-
Well that's excellent, made it a pretty good buy then, all things considered, no hope of a similar deal for Beltring I suppose? :-D
Putting aside the fact that we'll be out the country I suspect that the 4 week collection time might not work that well for the organizers?! I'll just need to win the lottery then buy a Scamell Amazon plus low-loader
-
Oh and a total result on the transport cost, because they combined it with another load they only charged me £1/mile for the 600 mile round trip!!
:yay::dancinggirls::yay:
-
Actually that's quite correct, I think it would be wrong to do something like that.... So the 1% share is reinstated, I look forward to received the cheque in the post for 1% of the transport cost and 1% of the first 500 litre tank of fuel :cool2:

Madrat's challenge!! To snap a picture of my white Leyland Martian, about to start a 400 miles drive up north first thing tomorrow (Thursday) via A34/M40/M42/M6/M74 Beer tokens on offer for any candid snaps!
:beer::beer::beer:
-
Tell him not to stop in any secluded laybys for a kip this side of the border !
The Ninja driver NEVER sleeps... Anyway, most folks wouldn't go near the Leyland in case someone asks them to contribute to the fuel bill
-
WE COULD STILL HEAD HER OFF AT THE BORDER YOU KNOW !
I'd suggest an interception on the M5 might be less travel time for you? Anyway I have a ninja truck driver bringing her up...:box:
-
Hoorah ! I wonder if I can follow her up on google earth ? Bet you can't wait to see if she'll pop that clutch now you know how to select low ratio in 6x6 ! I shall need regular video updates as I have 1% ownership mate ! :D:D
I now know how to get her into low, what I don't know is where is the 6 wheel driver lever is! And yeah, can't wait to set the points properly (I will email you that guide) and get driving around :-D
I'm afraid yours and Bernard's 1% ownership was cancelled out by the exhaust box "incident" :rotfl:
-
Well the good news is that the Leyland is now sat on top of a low-loader parked up in Berkshire! Unfortunately I'm heading south to Chester tomorrow so I'll be heading down south as it heads up north! I'll get a chance to play with it on Sunday :cool2:

okay thanks for the info guys :-) madrat why did you sell your scammell?
I made the mistake of taking it to bits to restore, right about the time we had our first baby and started a house build. A combination of lack of time & money prompted its sale. I do miss it now.... I have however purchased something recently to fill the void
-
Great to see your progress, It reminds me of my SV2S! My dash panel was bolted I believe, it was 1945 truck...
Cheers, Duncan

Well done for posting those Madrat, the above shows the similarity between the Cargo and the rare 8" Howitzer Tractor. For some reason I have only seen the loading davit on the Cargo version, it fitted as shown above and also dropped into adaptors either side of the rear body.
Good luck with the trip home, are you driving it?
I only heard about the article, it was a kind member on here who answered my plee and scanned the article for me!
I've never seen one of those 8" Howitzer tractors, and would probably not have noticed the loading davit if you hadn't mentioned it! Was this for assisting with a wheel change?
Not driving it anywhere until its a bit more sorted, also over 400 miles at 3ish MPG! Its coming up on a low-loader, leaving Wed night. Keep you eyes pealed users of the M5/M6 motorways!
:drive:

Did you have any luck talking to the lad from 42 OCA about your "Beast" ? I'll have to show my battery (49 Inkerman) your photos in Nov at our reunion.
Niallmhor
Hi Niallmhor, I had a few comments on the Forum, always good to hear of personal experiences with these trucks!
-
Hey Niels, Just having a look through your images, you are making a lovely job of her!! Can't wait to see the finished truck and also see you apply your skills to the Scammell when you find the time! Keep up the good work mate! D

Thanks to Rosco on HMVF I have been able to get a copy of the "wheels and tracks" article on the martian, I think its interesting reading.... Will hopefully have my truck up the road by this weekend
-
Hi Ross, what a man!! That's really made my day, thanks very much
Cheers,
Duncan
-
Hi folks,
Just wondering if anyone had a copy of wheels & tracks issue 23? I believe there is an article on the leyland martian which I would love to have a look at if anyone wants to sell a copy, or maybe scan the article for me?
Cheers, Duncan

Thanks guys, always good to get some feedback! I can do another of these galleries if someone would tell me what these Bedfords are please? :help:
-
very nice! Don't suppose you came across any Militant gun tractor pictures?
There were a couple however I was only saving the Leyland ones, if you have a few hours to spare go through the pictures in the "webshots" link at the top of this page, there were also images of Bedfords in Libya.
Cheers, Duncan

Smashing set of Martian pics too........I like how the Martian dwarfs the 5.5. :cool2:
No worries, the Martian seems to dwarf just about anything, you'd have to be nuts to buy one :banana:oh wait..!
-
Would love to be in a position to bring the Martian up from Ayrshire but I doubt it will be ready for the road by then, I do hope to join the SMVG in due course and get out and about. All the best, Duncan
